  • In this paper, we propose the design of an optimized fuzzy cascade controller for rotary inverted pendulum system by means of Hierarchical Fair Competition-based Genetic Algorithms (HFCGA) which is a kind of parallel genetic algorithms. The rotary inverted pendulum system is the system for controlling the inclination of pendulum axis through the adjustment of rotating arm. The control objective of the system is to control the position of rotating arm and to make the pendulum maintain the unstable equilibrium point of vertical position. To control rotary inverted pendulum system, we designs the fuzzy cascade controller scheme consisted of two fuzzy controllers and optimizes the parameters of the designed controller by means of HFCGA. A comparative analysis between the simulation and the practical experiment demonstrates that the proposed HFCGA based fuzzy cascade controller leads to superb performance in comparison with the conventional LQR controller as well as HFCGA based PD cascade controller.

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid algorithm for auto-tuning fuzzy controllers improving the performance. The presented algorithm estimates automatically the optimal values of membership functions, fuzzy rules, and scaling factors for fuzzy controllers, using a genetic-MGM algorithm. The object of the proposed algorithm is to promote search efficiency by a genetic and modified gradient optimization techniques. The proposed genetic and MGM algorithm is based on both the standard genetic algorithm and a gradient method. If a maximum point don't be changed around an optimal value at the end of performance during given generation, the genetic-MGM algorithm searches for an optimal value using the initial value which has maximum point by converting the genetic algorithms into the MGM(Modified Gradient Method) algorithms that reduced the number of variables. Using this algorithm is not only that the computing time is faster than genetic algorithm as reducing the number of variables, but also that can overcome the disadvantage of genetic algorithms. Simulation results verify the validity of the presented method.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new structure of fuzzy-neural networks Fuzzy Set-based Polynomial Neural Networks (FSPNN). The two underlying design mechanisms of such networks involve genetic optimization and information granulation. The resulting constructs are Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNN) with fuzzy set-based polynomial neurons (FSPNs) regarded as their generic processing elements. First, we introduce a comprehensive design methodology (viz. a genetic optimization using Genetic Algorithms) to determine the optimal structure of the FSPNNs. This methodology hinges on the extended Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) and fuzzy set-based rules. It concerns FSPNN-related parameters such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial, the number of membership functions, and a collection of a specific subset of input variables realized through the mechanism of genetic optimization. Second, the fuzzy rules used in the networks exploit the notion of information granules defined over systems variables and formed through the process of information granulation. This granulation is realized with the aid of the hard C- Means clustering (HCM). The performance of the network is quantified through experimentation in which we use a number of modeling benchmarks already experimented with in the realm of fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling.

  • A fuzzy traffic controller with the control rules and the membership functions generated by using genetic algorithm is presented for crossroad management. Conventional fuzzy traffic controllers use control rules and membership functions generated by human operators. However, this approach does not guarantee the optimal solution to design fuzzy control system. Genetic algorithm is a good solution for an optimal problem requiring domain-specific knowledge that is often heuristic. In this paper, we use genetic algorithms to automatically determine the near optimal rules and their membership functions of fuzzy traffic controllers. The effectiveness of our method was shown through simulation of crossroad network.

  • In this paper, we discuss model identification of nonlinear data using GAs-based Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(GAs-FPNN). Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) is proposed model based Group Method Data Handling(GMDH) and Neural Networks(NNs). Each node of FPNN is expressed Fuzzy Polynomial Neuron(FPN). Network structure of nonlinear data is created using Genetic Algorithms(GAs) of optimal search method. Accordingly, GAs-FPNN have more inflexible than the existing models (in)from structure selecting. The proposed model select and identify its for optimal search of Genetic Algorithms that are no. of input variables, input variable numbers and consequence structures. The GAs-FPNN model is select tuning to input variable number, number of input variable and the last part structure through optimal search of Genetic Algorithms. It is shown that nonlinear data model design using Genetic Algorithms based FPNN is more usefulness and effectiveness than the existing models.

  • In this paper, a discrete optimum design program was developed using the refined fuzzy-genetic algorithms based on the genetic algorithms and the fuzzy theory. The optimum design in this study can perform section and shape optimization simultaneously for planar and spatial steel structures. In this paper, the objective function is the weight of steel structures and the constraints are the design limits defined by the design and buckling strengths, displacements, and thicknesses of the member sections. The design variables are the dimensions and coordinates of the steel sections. Design examples are given to show the applicability of the discrete optimum design using the improved fuzzy-genetic algorithms in this study.

  • In this paper, we apply one of modified Genetic Algorithms, a Multi-population Genetic Algorithm(MGA) that improves the genetic diversity to determine the fuzzy rule base and the shape of membership functions. The generation of the fuzzy rule base for fuzzy control, generally, depends on expert's experience. We suggest a new evaluation function to optimize fuzzy rule base. Simulation shows that the proposed method has good result.

  • In this paper, an auto-tuning method for fuzzy logic controller based on the genetic algorithm is presented. In the proposed method, normalization parameters and membership function parameters of fuzzy controller are translated into binary bit-strings, which are processed by the genetic algorithm in order to be optimized for the well-chosen objective function (i.e. fitness function). To examine the validity of the proposed method. a genetic algorithm based fuzzy controller for an indirect vector control of induction motors is simulated and experiment is carried out. The simulation and experimental results show a significant enhancement in shortening development time and improving system performance over a traditional manually tuned fuzzy logic controller.

  • We propose a new category of hybrid multi-layer neural networks with hetero nodes such as Fuzzy Set based Polynomial Neurons (FSPNs) and Polynomial Neurons (PNs). These networks are based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron. We develop a comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization and genetic algorithms, in particular. The augmented genetically optimized HFPNN (namely gHFPNN) results in a structurally optimized structure and comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in the conventional HFPNN. The GA-based design procedure being applied at each layer of HFPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes (FPNs or PNs) available within the HFPNN. In the sequel, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. First, the structural optimization is realized via GAs whereas the ensuing detailed parametric optimization is carried out in the setting of a standard least square method-based learning. The performance of the gHFPNNs quantified through experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks-synthetic and experimental data already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling.

  • This paper shows a self tuning fuzzy inference method by the genetic algorithm in the fuzzy-sliding mode control for a Polishing robot. Using this method, the number of inference rules and the shape of membership functions are determined by the genetic algorithm. The fuzzy outputs of the consequent part are derived by the gradient descent method. Also, it is guaranteed that .the selected solution become the global optimal solution by optimizing the Akaike's information criterion expressing the quality of the inference rules. It is shown by simulations that the method of fuzzy inference by the genetic algorithm provides better learning capability than the trial and error method.
