  • The A lot of rotating machinery are generally used in industrial field and the electrical machinery such as the motor and generator account for the most of the part. Generally motor and generator have electrical loss because of eddy current. So silicon steel sheets are used in order to reduce the electrical loss and furthermore laminated rotor is used for motor and generator to eliminate the electrical loss and heat generation. • One set of rotor coils is required per each large generator rotor assembly, Rotors consist of two directly opposing poles. Each pole requires from 5 to 9 coils. Each coil is made up of two halves identified on the connection end. These coil halves will be joined together by butt brazing process during subsequent rotor assembly. Each half coil is made up of typically 4 to 9 layers of copper conductors. Because of Generator rotor is rotated very high speed with 3,600RPM, the quality soundness of brazed joints is very important at each coil. But, it is very difficult to be optimized non-destructive evaluation, because c-coil has the long shape and evaluation is to be done assembled condition. In this paper introduce newly developed inspection process and acceptance standards for the ultrasonic inspection of " C" coil butt braze. This inspection system is a semi-automatic ultrasonic flaw detector with data acquisition and retention capable of assessing the relative lack of bond of brazed butt joints

  • This paper deals with the maximum output power generation using the Dounly Fed Induction Generator(DFIG) in the super-synchronous speed regions, by control of both magnitude and phase of the voltage fed to the rotor. Steady-state algebraic equations of the euivalent circuit are solved using numerical analysis. For the normal operating region, in which the generator ratings are not exceeded, rotor current is less than or equal to the rated value. By selecting the permisible rated current at rotor coil, there are the optimal solution existng which covers the magnitude and phase of the injected voltage to the rotor for the given slip. This optimal solution is pointing out how the maximum output power can be carried out.

  • This paper deals with analytical techniques for performance evaluation of small scaled wind power generator with outer permanent magnet rotor. In part (1), using transfer relations theorem, magnetic field distribution characteristics by PM and armature reaction field are derived. Moreover, electrical parameters such as back-EMF, inductance and resistance are calculated from the obtained field characteristic equations. The proposed analytical techniques are validated by nonlinear finite element method using commercial software 'Maxwell' and performance experiments of the manufactured generator. In part (2), generating characteristics analysis such as constant speed characteristics and constant resistive load characteristics, and performance evaluation according to variation of wind speed will be accomplished using the derived electrical parameters.

  • A grid connection algorithm is proposed for the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) which is widely adopted in high power variable speed wind turbine. Before the stator of DFIG is connected to grid, rotor-side converter is used to control the induced stator voltage. As a result, the stator transient current is limited below the rate value during the connection by the proposed synchronization of the stator voltage to the grid voltage. A wind power generation simulator using DC motor and wound-rotor induction generator is built and the dynamic characteristics of proposed algorithm is verified experimentally.

  • In this paper two modes of operating a wound rotor induction machine as a generator at sub-and super-synchronous speeds in wind energy conversion systems are investigated. In the first mode, known as double fed induction generator (DFIG), the rotor circuit is fed from the ac mains via a controlled rectifier and a forced commutated inverter. Adjusting the applied rotor voltage magnitude and phase leads to machine operation as a generator at sub-synchronous speeds. In the second mode, the machine is operated in a slip recovery scheme where the slip energy is fed back to the ac mains via a rectifier and line commutated inverter. This mode is described as double output induction generator (DOIG) leading to increase the efficiency of the wind-to electrical energy conversion system. Simulated results of both modes are presented. Experimental verification of the simulated results are presented for the DOIG mode of operation, showing larger amount of power captured and better power factor when compared to conventional induction generators.

  • On-line diagnosis system has been developed and is now applied the detection of shorted turns in the field winding of large generator. This system consists of data aquisition system and display PC. The data aquisition system detects voltage waveforms from flux probe sensor installed in the stator slot. The display PC shows theshorted-turn situation of generator rotor winding. A shorted-turn diagnosis test wasperformed on five gas turbine generators at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant. The test was conducted using an new diagnosis system and digital oscilloscope which can identify the pole location, the slot number and the number of shorted turns within each slot. It is confirmed that results of two systems are very same in the field tests.

  • The purpose of this paper is characteristic analysis of permanent magnet generator (PMG) for automatic voltage regulator (AVR)power of brush less synchronous generator. However, this PMG has a spoke type permanent magnet rotor with large overhang for high power density, characteristic analysis considering concentration effect of air-gap flux density due to the overhang should be performed. 30 transient finite element method (FEM)analysis is good solution for overhang parameter, but this method needs too much calculation time. In this paper, we examined the overhang effects based on overhang length and material of rotor core by using 20 and 30 static FEM analysis, and proposed 20 dynamic FEA model considering overhang parameter which gives good and rapid results. The proposed method is verified by the test results of no load, load and short circuit test.

  • In this paper, a stand-alone wound rotor induction generator system is proposed and its steady state characteristics are analyzed. It is shown that the self-excitation of the system can be acheined by exciting the rotor through the PWM inverter. The analysis is based upon the eguivalent circuit and the steady state dq model of the mahine. The results show that the proposed system can be made to generate constant voltage constant frequency power for various speed and load conditions.
