  • The general or separate reading room in domestic public libraries is a space that represents Korea's unique characteristics that are rarely found in advanced cultural countries. If it is an indispensable space for residents of the community, all public libraries should install and operate it. Otherwise, the general reading room of existing public libraries should be reduced or improved and the new library needs strategic thinking about its installation. Therefore, this study analysed the operation status and major issues of the general reading room, and then suggested the direction based on the survey and comparison of the recognition of the general reading room for the staff (librarian) and the users. The results can contribute not only to the ongoing debate on the general reading room, which is the central theme of discussion of local public goods, but also to find desirable alternatives.

  • The quality of indoor air quality is facing a very serious situation due to the impact of the quality of the atmosphere in the atmosphere and the surrounding environment. While awareness of the danger of these populations is increasing, there is no way to detect the quality of the indoor air quality as well as the measures to detect the quality of indoor air quality as well as the countermeasures. The study drew a general problem with the design of the service design, the general purpose of the general office, and the use of the public facilities for the purpose of measuring the usage of indoor air quality, the general purpose of public facilities, and the interpretation of the current law. Based on this research, most of the general users' perception of the seriousness of the disease is not reflected in the perception that the dust and indoor air are accumulated in the eyes of the general public.

  • Background: The management of the behavior of handicapped children when providing required dental care is often a problem, whether in the dental office or in a hospital setting. Because of the high incidence of poor cooperation, many of these patients are scheduled for dental care under general anesthesia with preoperative medical assessment. The purpose of this study was to carry out a clinico-statistical survey on dental treatment for handicapped children under general anesthesia. Methods: After approval from the institutional review board, the medical records of 64 handicapped children between 1997 and 2002 were reviewed to determine the patient profiles, anesthesia management, and complications. The charts of these patients, who underwent dental examination, scaling and prophylaxis, and restoration and extraction of teeth under general anesthesia, were reviewed. Results: The mean age was 12.8 years old, and males (53%) predominated females (47%). Twenty-four patients had mental retardation, twelve had autism, six had cerebral palsy, 4 had behavior disorder, others had heart disease, convulsive disorder, etc. Sixty-two had intravenous thiopental with neuromuscular blocker, 2 had intravenous ketamine induction. Nasotracheal intubation was uneventful in 55 patients, nine had orotracheal intubation because of difficult visualization of the larynx. Twenty-one patients experienced postoperative complications in the recovery room, including epistaxis, nasal obstruction, vomiting, airway obstruction, respiratory depression. Conclusions: General anesthesia is a very effective way of completing the dental treatments for disabled children. We emphasize the need to train anesthesiologists in the care of disabled patients.

  • The study investigates the relationship and influence between religiosity, reward, and engagement in the public administration sector, both directly and causally via moderation. This study involved one hundred and twenty-three respondents in three local government organizations in Malang City, East Java Province, Indonesia, namely, the Malang City General Hospital, the Population and Civil Registry Office, and the Investment Office. The sampling method uses stratified random sampling from the total population of civil servants in Malang in the three institutions. The data analysis model of this study uses a quantitative approach with a unit of data analysis using the path analysis method. The analytical tools used are smart-PLS and SPSS. The results reveal that the direct combined effect of reward and religiosity has a positive and significant influence on the engagement. However, moderation between reward and commitment, which is bridged by religiosity, does not show positive and significant results. The non-positive relationship shown by testing moderation concludes that there is a separation of purpose between the portion of religiosity in the world of work, where religiosity in this study is only described as part of the concept of worship, and the relationship between the person and his God.

  • The photoperiod and temperature response of Korean varieties were studied under field and greenhouse conditions. Results of the experiment indicated that all varieties tested were relatively intensitive to photoperiod. The early varieties were least affected by photoperiod while the late varieties showed the greatest response. Low temperature delays flowering either under short daylength or natural daylength. In general, temperature has a greater effect than photoperiod on the growth duration of the varieties used. The late varties had longer photoperiod-sensitive phase than the early varieties. Temperature has very little effect on the photoperiod-sensitive phase. The basic vegetative phase is longer in the early varieties than the late varieties. High temperature results shorten duration of the basic vegetative phase.

  • Innovative and nondestructive characterization techniques have been developed to locate and quantify nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) in the vadose and saturated zones in the subsurface environment. One such technique is the partitioning interwell tracer test (PITT). The PITT is a simultaneous displacement of partitioning and non-partitioning tracers through a subsurface formation. Partitioning tracers will partition into the NAPL during their transport through NAPL-contaminated formations. Mean travel times of partitioning and non-partitioning tracers are used to estimate the quantity of NAPL encountered by the displaced tracer pulse. Travel times are directly proportional to the partitioning coefficient and the volume of NAPL contacted in the subsurface environment. This paper discusses the conceptual background, design and implementation of PITTs. • A raw signal simulator for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a useful tool for the design and implementation of SAR system. Also, in order to analyze and verify the developed SAR processor, the raw signal simulator is required. Moreover, there is the need for a test system to help designing new SAR sensors and mission of SAR system. The derived parameters of the SAR simulator also help to generate accurate SAR processing algorithms. Although the ultimate purpose of this research is to presents a general purpose SAR simulator, this paper presents a SAR simulator in frequency domain at the first step. The proposed simulator generates the raw signal by changing various simulation parameters such as antenna parameters, modulation parameters, and sampling parameters. It also uses the statistics from an actual SAR image to imitate actual physical scattering. This paper introduces the procedures and parameters of the simulator, and presents the simulation results. Experiments have been conducted by comparing the simulated raw data with original raw SAR image. In addition, the simulated raw data have been verified through commercial SAR processing software.

  • The authors of this paper chose the delphi methods to investigate into several areas to understand where the pressures for ATM equipments will emerge in the prescribed time horizon of 1999 to 2010- a period just beyond the current manufacturing and deployment schedules of most companies. The areas studied are the office buildings and interoffice connectivity as well as switches, and finally transmission facilities. This paper is matched into these areas with the results of a Delphi study of 14 respondents from the common carriers like Korea Telecom and national institutions like ETRI. The investigators calculated the average answer for each question and presents the questionnaires for a second round to individuals who had responded to the first round of questioning. As a result of this paper, the authors reached some conclusions regarding what item will be predominant in each of the areas studied as well as the promoters and barriers for ATM deployment and some suggestions are provided for corporate managers and policy makers. This Delphi study did not provide a strong and uniform forecast that ATM would dominate the marketplace in the early years of next millenium, as many had anticipated. Whether it is in he area of office connection, enterprise backbone, switches and transmission facilities, respondents predicted the patterns which indicate a movement toward higher-bandwidth connectivity, although not necessarily provided with ATM networks. A general pattern is that the predictions for ATM deployment in each of the areas were strong from the year 1999 to 2010.

  • The study aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) and international trade (export and import) on Vietnam's economic growth for the 2000-2018 period. Secondary data is taken from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. Ordinary least-square method is used in analyzing the impact of FDI, export and import on economic growth of Vietnam. Empirical test results show that FDI and international trade are related to Vietnam's economic growth. However, each economic variable has a different impact. FDI has a positive and statistically significant influence on economic growth of Vietnam. Export also has positive and statistically significant impact to the economic growth, while import has a negative but not statistically significant effect. The result is useful for the policy makers of Vietnam on foreign economic relations. In order to improve the effect of FDI and international trade on growth of the economy, the government of Vietnam should: (1) continue applying preferential policies to attract FDI; (2) select foreign investors aiming to quality, efficiency, high technology and environmental protection; (3) continue pursuing export-oriented policy; (4) enhance the added value of exported goods and control the type of imported goods; (5) further liberalize trade through signing and implementation of international trade commitments.
