Đoạn tuyệt is the representative of not only Nhất Linh's literary life but also of the Tự Lực Văn Đoàn [Self-Strength Literary Group]. Đoạn tuyệt's contributions are emphasized in the following aspects: 1) critique of the feudal family model, 2) an advocate of female and individual liberation, 3) nationalistic content, though rather vague. Based on analysis of gender power relations in the masculinization of femininity exemplified in the character Loan of the novel, this paper addresses the following points: - In Đoạn tuyệt, the woman is eager to free herself from feudalist ties not to construct her own identity but to identify her with men's identities. - The construction of new feminine identities was conditioned in new rising discourses of Western modernity-based nationalisms in pre-revolutionary Vietnam. - The feminization of masculinity echoes the crisis of Vietnamese masculine in facing colonial power.

This survey examined sex role identities (androgyny, masculinity, femininity, and undifferentiated), gender, and academic achievement scores from an international sampling of college students. For a comparison, American students and Korean students responded to survey questions on the Bem Sex Role Inventory and the Korean Sex Role Inventory respectively, reported family socio-economic status and achievement scores on the American College Testing (ACT) or Korean Scholastic Ability Test (KSAT). Results in this study indicate that a higher percentage of American students report an androgynous or undifferentiated gender role identity than do Koreans, while Korean students are more likely to show a feminine gender role identity than Americans. Although American students reported higher levels of androgyny in their gender role identity, those who fit the feminine gender role identity group showed higher ACT scores than other gender role identity types. However, in the Korean sample, the masculine gender role identity produced a higher academic achievement for both males and females.

본 연구의 목적은 재독한인 노동이주남성의 젠더 정체성을 생애사적 사례재구성 방법에 기초해 분석하는 것이었다. 이에, 해당 남성 5명의 생애사를 재구성한 결과, 이들의 생애사를 관통하는 젠더 정체성은 '직업생활을 중시한 개인으로서의 남성' 정체성임을 발견하였다. 그리고 이러한 정체성은 직업사적 굴절이나 단절의 정도, 이주 이전의 직업과 결혼의 경험 여부에 따라 이주국의 복지를 경험하는 과정에서 연속적 혹은 비연속적으로 재생산되기도 하였고, '생계와 가사를 분담하거나 분 전담하는 남편으로서의 남성' 정체성과 결합되는 방식으로 지체적 혹은 압축적으로 분화되기도 하였음을 도출하였다. 이러한 연구결과에 의거해 사회복지와 생애사 연구에 시사하는 함의를 논의하였다.

By reading the main character, Rene Gallimard, in M. Butterfly as a spatial metaphor of America, this article examines how homogeneous American national identity of heterosexuality and white masculinity has been reinforced since the cold war and has constituted a crisis of hegemony with the decline of imperialism and how its pathological symptom is shown through the melancholic suicide of Gallimard. This article also argues how the feminine attributes implied in race, gender and sexuality in M. Butterfly are designated and allegorized as an impure, contaminated and ahistorical marker of national integrity in pthe social and material status of the heterosexual American white male. To develop my argument, I read M. Butterfly from a psychoanalytic point of view. Therefore I depend on Freud, Lacan, and Bhabha's psychoanalysis as the theoretical basis. In this paper, I also argue that the homogenized and fixed national identity is splitted and collapsed from within as shown in the Gallimard's melancholy and in the process of splitting the "Third Space" of hybrid subjects for the marginal and the emergent like Song Liling, a homosexual Asian man, can be built "from a space in-between." Therefore Hwang calls into questions conventions of fixed, essentialist identities through the shifting gender identities between Song and Gallimard in M. Butterfly and how identities in the plural are constructed variously in throughly historicized, politicized situations, and these constructions can be complicated by relations of power.

중년 여성은 가정과 사회에서 중추적인 역할을 수행하는 동시에 신체, 심리, 사회적으로 많은 변화와 문제를 안고 있다. 성역할정체감은 개인의 적응에 영향을 미치므로, 중년기 여성을 대상으로 성역할정체감의 유형과 유형별 특성을 확인하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구는 Q방법론을 적용하여 중년기 여성의 성역할정체감에 대한 인식 유형을 분석하였다. 연구대상은 중년 여성 40명을 P표본으로 하여 40개의 Q표본을 9점 척도 상에 강제 분포하도록 하였다. 수집된 자료는 QUANL에 의한 주인자분석법으로 처리되었다. 중년기 여성의 성역할정체감 유형은 네 가지로 확인되었다. '온정 감성형'은 온순, 세심하고 동정심이 있으며 감정이 풍부하며 낭만적인 것을 좋아한다. '온정 소신형'은 이해심과 동정심, 참을성이 있으며 의리와 소신을 가지고 있다. '파워 소신형'은 이기심과 의리가 있고 자기주장을 하며 성격이 강하나 소신을 가지고 일을 처리한다. '감성 주도형'은 예쁜 물건을 좋아하고 부드럽고 상냥한 측면과 함께 의리를 가지고 추진력을 가지는 특성이 있다. 중년기 여성의 성역할정체감에 대한 인식의 확인을 통해 생애주기의 발달에 따라 변화된 성역할정체감을 이해할 수 있었다.

Using a life course framework, we compare and contrast the processes of acculturation for first- and second-generation Korean immigrant fathers in the United States. In-depth life history interviews were conducted with 20 first-generation and 15 second-generation fathers in the Midwest. With a modified grounded theory approach of constant comparison, we first explored how these fathers developed their identities in the midst of cultural and social transitions. These men's identity construction was shaped by socio-economic statuses and accessibility to cultural resources, with a marked shift over time toward integration of Korean and American identities. We then examined how these identities informed the men's socialization of their children, and the children's socialization of their parents.

is based on a true story of the first transgender individual. It portrays psychological changes visually during the protagonist's confusion with self-identity based on gender. This study analyzes gender identity in contemporary fashion intensively based on gender images and costumes appearing in the film . In the society lacking a fixed gender image, this study provides a timely insight into gender identities by analyzing the fashions depicted in the movie. The movie is a true story of the first transgender person working hard to determine his or her own gender identity. As a research method, the theoretical basis of genderless approach was established via literature review. The characteristics of genderless identity were determined by dividing the movie into established and ambiguous gender periods to analyze the comprehensive changes in costumes for comparison. Einer Wagner representing male identity portrays men's fashion whereas Lily Elbe representing female identity depicts women's fashion. While the two different genders find their places in a single body, the confusion creates genderless fashion. By dividing these phases into femininity, masculinity and genderless categories, each costume was analyzed comprehensively, and the images of relatively changing fashion were studied by altering the gender identity. Four characteristics including androgyne, rebellion, pleasure and balance were derived from the gender identity based on Fashion in .

본 연구는 기술과 사회에 관한 융합교육이 공대 남녀학생들의 정체성에 미치는 영향을 설문조사와 과제물 내용분석을 통해 검토하였다. 기술과 사회의 상호작용에 대한 수업을 수강한 여학생 집단에서는 엔지니어에 대한 호감, 자신이 엔지니어가 될 것이라는 사실에 대한 만족감, 엔지니어의 사회적 공헌도에 대한 긍정적 평가가 모두 통계적으로 유의미하게 증가하였다. 또한 수강 남학생 집단에서도 비수강 남학생 집단에 비해 더욱 긍정적인 공학 정체성이 형성되었고, 수강 남학생 집단과 여학생 집단 사이 에서는 통계적으로 의미 있는 성차가 나타나지 않았다. 이와 함께 수강생들은 이미 개발된 의료 기술을 개선하기 위한 방안을 논의하면서, 기술의 발전 과정을 새로운 사회적 가치를 실현해가는 과정으로 보는 관점을 습득하였다. 기술과 사회에 관한 융합교육은 공대 남녀학생들로 하여금 엔지니어의 역할을 더 넓은 사회적 맥락 안에서 이해하도록 도우며, 이는 공학도로서의 자기 정체성 형성에 긍정적 영향을 미칠 수 있다.

The purpose of this research is to understand the gender identity expressed in Madonna music video texts and performances. Madonna has reconstructed the fluid identities through the variations of body, images, costumes, and attitudes . The results are as fellows; ① Her punky sexuality is to be seen the flash trash look, kitsch fashion, which reconstructs a good/bad taste, modesty/immodesty, the relations of under/outer wear using bawdy sexuality through her early Virgin tour. ② Her Heterosexuality is to be seen the glamourous look, traditional images of women, which represents the passive feminity of patriarch. ③ Her sadomasochism sexuality is to be seen the bondage look of dominatrix image, which deconstructs sexual taboos; represents sexual power. ④ Her bisexuality is to be seen androgynous look, the 3rd species look using masculinity/feminity signifier, which deconstructs the stereotypes of gender roles. ⑤ Her homosexuality is to be seen the fetish fashion by drag and lesbian, which deconstructs the dichotomy of normality/perversion; opens a possibility of women subjectivity of sexual desires.

Media representations of race have attempted to contain blackness by packaging and commodifying it to reflect and affect preconceptions and prejudices of dominant culture. From the early beginnings of blackface minstrelsy as entertainment form in the $19^{th}$ century, representations of African Americans in popular culture and mainstream media have been closely associated with the notion of performance. The performative nature of racial representations is situated within the discursive struggle over what it meant to be Black, or what it meant to be labeled and portrayed as Black in American culture. This essay discusses four films that contain performances of "blackness" that assemble race and gender in complex configurations: Bamboozled (Spike Lee, 2000), Girl 6 (Spike Lee, 1996), Big Momma's House (Raja Gosnell, 2000), and White Chicks (Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2004). I explore how the performative nature of "blackness" is emphasized, thematized, and problematized in these films through the physicality of corporeal figures that embody the close link between race and gender identities. Once we are cognizant of the fact that race and gender are fabricated cultural constructs and performative acts, we can recognize that notions of "blackness" and "femininity" are not naturalized or essentialist, but open to recontextualization and revision.
