Optimized choice of material for two principally different types of PM components is presented. The first is characterized by high stresses in areas with high stress concentrations (for example synchronizer hubs with very sharp notches, typically <0.25mm in the pre-synchronizer slot and the inner splines). The second type has slightly larger notch radii (small spur gears and sprockets with typically notch radii between 1- 3mm). Diffusion alloyed materials are well suited for sharp notch components. Pre-alloyed materials are also well suited for applications with sharp notches if compressive residual stresses in the notch roots are created by appropriate process control. A free choice of material is available for components with the larger notch radii.

Powder forging is used for heavy-loaded parts (rings of rolling-contact bearings, gears etc.) production. Rolling contact fatigue is material property values of which characterize possibility of practical utilization of such parts. Rolling contact fatigue of some steels obtained out of prealloyed powders Astaloy CrM, Atomet 4601, Atomet 4901 and powder blends iron-carbon-nickel by hot forging is studied in the present paper. Effect of various kinds of heat and thermomechanical treatment on rolling contact fatigue is determined. Thermomechanical treatment provides optimal values of rolling contact fatigue. In this case steel structure contains up to 40% of retained metastable austenite which is transformed to martensite on trials. Thus typically crack is generated on residual pores and non-metallic inclusions instead of martensite zones in wrought steels.

This article describes the design of a hydraulic system for a power split type continuously variable transmission (CVT). The CVT considered here, is composed of planetary gears, clutches, and a torque converter which is mainly used for the realization of CVT function. Similar to automatic transmissions, the hydraulic system of CVT is designed for supplying hydraulic flows and pressures to each component of CVT, in order to activate the clutch engagements and torque converter operation, and to cool the drivetrain. By using the mathematical models of drivetrain, a simulation program was developed to investigate the power performance of CVT equipped vehicle and the operating conditions of each component of CVT. And the design parameters of the hydraulic system and clutches were calculated using the operating conditions and power requirements which obtained from the simulation results. Finally the hydraulic circuit design of prototyped valve body is presented based on the numerical results of this analysis.

Goal of this study is to implement 3-dimensional underwater appearance graphical display, fishery measured information display, sonar data representation and display, and 3-dimensional underwater appearance animation based on coefficient data of chaos behavior and fishing modeling of fishing gears from PC cluster system. In order to accomplish the goals of this study, it is essential to compose user interfacing and realistic description of image scenes in the towing-net fishery simulator, and techniques to describe sand cloud effects under water using particle systems are necessary. In this study, we implemented graphical representations and animations of the simulator by using OpenGL together with C routines.
Gear is an essential component of an automotive. Crowning is used for tooth modification of a gear. The basic concept of gear tooth crowning is to reduce the stress concentration in edge of contact area and appropriate profile modifications can help gears to resist scoring, pitting, and tooth breakage. In this study, a method to determinate spur gear tooth crowning amount to make smooth surface stress and subsurface stress distribution is proposed. This method is based on the contact analysis.

Forging process is one of the forming process and is used widely in automobile parts and manufacture industry. Especially the gears like spur gear, helical gear, bevel gear were produced by machine tool, but recently they have been manufactured by forging process. The goal of this study is to study forming process with data obtained by comparison between forward extrusion and upsetting simulation results and formability improvement by various heat treatment conditions. By analysis data of 3D FEM by upsetting and forward extrusion forming, the forming process of clutch gear develops using data based on 3D FEM analysis. Through tensile test using specimens by various heat treatment conditions, the optimal heat treatment condition is obtained by comparison the results of tensile test.
A multi-stage gear mold including gears of 2mm and 1.5mm diameter was designed and machined in this research for developing micro gear mold manufacturing technology with micro endmill. Mechanical shapes having differential micro teeth were analyzed to be formed as designed and processing conditions were optimized by analyzing machined surface chip and cutting force. Based on the results, a prototype of micro multi-stage gear mold was manufactured.

Most machine element, such as gears and bearings, are operated in the mixed lubrication region. Contact between two asperities has an effect on machine life by increasing local pressure. To estimate fatigue lift exactly, asperity contact should be considered as a factor of fatigue liff because this happening produce friction, abrasion and make flash temperature. In this paper, asperity contact is considered as a result of film breakdown when lubricant pressure is not enough to separate two asperities. Contact pressure is calculated to asperity overlap region and added to lubricant pressure. For this model, numerical procedure is introduced and the result on surface roughness and velocity for wheel bearing is presented. Results of EHL analysis for wheel bearing show that asperity contact is occurred at the edge of EHL conjunction where has a insufficient lubricant pressure to separate two surface.

In this paper, a practical method for design and machining of cycloid gear was investigated. Based on the proposed method, a systematic program was developed for automatically designing the tooth profiles of epicycloid and hypocycloid gears for the case fo one difference between the number of teeth of cycloid gear and the number coordinates of tooth profiles and pressure angles. The error analysis between cycloid curve and Biarc curve was performed to show the effective method of equidistant partitioning of cycloid curve so that efficient method of Biarc curve fitting was also proposed for the partitioned curve.
Tanzania is a coastal state on the western Indian Ocean in Africa. In an artisanal or small scale fishery, the combination of large numbers of fishers and landing places, mixed gears and migrant fishers makes fisheries management an often complex task. Lack of capital, low level of technology, poverty and high cost of transport are major socio-economic problems in Tanzanian fisheries. The combined approach of community-based management and provision of education and training for extension workers and fishers themselves are required. It is also necessary to build the capacity of fisheries institutions to meet the human resources development challenge.
