The characteristics of micro gaseous flows in microchannels have been analyzed in view of flow resistance using the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method which is a molecule-based numerical modeling technique. For this purpose, a DSMC code where the pressure boundary condition was specified at the inlet and outlet, has been developed and the results of simulations showed satisfactory agreements with the analytic solution in the slip flow regime. (0.01 < Kn < 0.1) By varying the height and length of the microchannel, the effect of pressure difference between the inlet and outlet was examined. The present computation indicates that the curvature in pressure distribution along the channel increases due to the effect of compressibility when the pressure difference increases. To obtain the flow resistance regardless of the channel dimensions, a standard curve is devised in the present study by introducing the concept of unit mass flowrate and unit driving pressure force. From this curve, it is shown that in micro flows, a significant deviation from the laminar incompressible flow occurs by reducing the flow resistance.
The hitherto existing gap in the field of chromatographic methods has been filled by the direct coupling of a suitable oven (TAS-oven) with TLC. The sample to be examined is heated either isothermally or linearly within the temperature gradient of $50{\sim}450^{\circ}C$. The volatile and/or thermolytically evolved substances are fractionated on the TLC-layer and subsequently chromatographed under standard conditions. Transport mechanisms from the sample to the TLC-layer, applications of the TAS-procedure and further developments are discussed. Thermofractography, developed from the TAS-procedure, is demonstrated on different groups of natural substances such as alkaloids, amino acids, nucleic acids. nucleosides, nucleotides, triglycerides and other lipids, pyrone glycosides and aglycon. Experimental work and results on the thermolysis of macromolecular natural and synthetic substances, natural polyphenols, tanning agents and leather and the possibilities of differentiating various lignins, carbohydrate and synthetic polymers are reported. Further, it is shown that classical reactions in the microgram range, e.g. zinc dust distillation, sulphur-and selenium dehydrogenation and catalytic dehydrogenation, can be coupled directly with TLC. Also described is a method which allows to investigate the gaseous compounds evolved during thermofractography in the range of up to $450^{\circ}C$. Thermal procedures coupled with TLC open up the following new possibilities for chemical microanalysis: fractionated separation of distillable and sublimable components, fractionated thermolysis and carrying out of thermal reactions in the ultra micro range.
Pressurization system in a liquid-propellant launcher supplies the controlled gas into the ullage volume of propellant tanks to feed propellants to combustion chamber by pressurizing propellants stored in propellant tanks. The ullage part of propellant tank should be constantly pressurized to supply the propellants stored in propellant tanks to turbo-pump or combustion chamber by pressurant pressurization system. Pressurant used to pressurize propellants is generally stored in a series of tanks at cryogenic temperature and high preassure inside an oxidizer tank. The reason is to store the quantity of pressurant as much as possible and to make pressurant tanks as small as (i.e. as light as) possible. However for test convenience pressurant tank is located at STP (standard temperature and pressure) environment in this study. Orifices are widely adapted to several pressurization systems in liquid rocket propulsion systems. Discharge coefficients of orifices are essentially needed for the optimized design of pressurization system in liquid rocket propulsion system. For this study gaseous nitrogen was served as pressurant and rounded entry orifices were employed. The forty-two (42) rounded entry orifices (the radii of curvatures are 0.5 and 1.0) have been tested experimentally in the supersonic flow region. The discharge coefficients of rounded entry orifices with inside diameters ranging from about 1.4 to 5.0mm was measured with 0.95 ${\sim}$ 0.99.
In the course of increasing in human and material damage caused by fire, it is an important research field to develop clean extinguishing agent which does no harm to global environment as well as has a good extinguishing efficiency. This research is a basic step to develop a new clean extinguishing agent. In order to get a satisfactory result, we tested fire extinguishing ability using nitrogen and Novec mixtures gas which are inert gas and new clean extinguishing agent. We used Cup Burner Test made by international standard ISO-14520 regulations of gaseous extinguishing agent ability test, and the fuels used in the test are n-heptane, methanol, ethanol, iso-propanol and 1-butanol. The experimental results of flame extinguishing concentration are n-heptane 6.54%, methanol 8.47%, ethanol 6.98%, isopropanol 6.10% and butanol 6.54% by pure Novec agent. So the finding is that a new clean agent, Novec has an efficient extinguishing ability in a state of gas. Also, in a test as to mixtures gas of nitrogen and Novec, it has a good result for minimum oxygen concentration is under 16%.
This study was conducted to evaluate the concentration distribution characteristics of air pollutants by the yellow sand from China. The concentrations and chemical properties of FPM contained in the yellow sand were compared with those of air pollutants when having no yellow sand in order to estimate the variation characteristics and the originated source of air pollutants moved by yellow sand. The concentrations of PM-2.5 and PM-10 contained in the yellow sand showed an increase of 2.3 to 2.7 times than usual, and the concentrations of NO2 and SO2 in the gaseous pollutants showed an increase of about 1.6 times by yellow sand, and thus the air contamination was much influenced by yellow sand phenomenon. The concentrations of inorganic elements contained in FPM from the yellow sand showed a higher concentration variation in the order of Al>Mg>Zn>Pb than usual. The concentration coefficient of air aerosol during the yellow sand period showed that Na, K, Ca, Mg and Fe were originated from natural source, and Pb, Cr, Cd, Cu and Zn were originated from artificial source for inorganic elements. The correlation analysis between FPM and inorganic elements showed in the descending order of Al>K>Pb>Mg, and thus the deposited amount of Pb was influenced by that of yellow sand. The average concentrations of PM-10 measured during the yellow sand period exceeded the Korea Air Environmental Standard and showed a excess rate of 3.4 times in the maximum but the average concentrations of PM-2.5 showed within the United States Air Environmental Standard.
The purpose of this study is to compare the sampling methods for monitoring indoles (phenol, p-cresol, indole and skatole) in airs of swine facility. As the collecting methods of indoles in air, Tenax-TA adsorption tube and solid phase microextraction (SPME) were examined. For the preparation of calibration curves of indoles concentrated in Tenax-TA, the standard indoles solutions were spiked in each of Tenax-TA tubes and thermally desorbed (ATD) into a gas chromatograph combined with mass detector (GC/MS). And for the preparation of calibration curves by SPME, indoles in the standard gaseous solution prepared by evaporating the aqueous solution that contained indoles into a polyester sampling bag were extracted with SPME fiber and subsequently analyzed by the GC/MS. Two sampling methods were evaluated for extracting indoles present in swine building environments. Results indicated that the SPME method using Polydimethylsiloxane/ Divinylbenzene (PDMS/DVB) fiber was more effective than Tenax-TA method in extracting indoles. The gas chromatographic analysis showed that the linearities of calibration curves and detection limits were useful for detection of indoles in swine airs. The field tests also showed that considerably different levels of indoles were present in various parts of the swine building.

In this paper, we developed an explosion proof type and portable combustible gas leak detector and proposed an algorithm to improve the accuracy for measuring gaseous concentrations. The nation's first we developed an infrared gas leak detector with explosion proof standard(Ex d ib) and improved measuring accuracy by using linearization recursion equation and 2nd Lagrange interpolation polynomial. Together, we advanced their performances and added their easy functions after investigating field demands. To compare our and other company's detectors, we performed measurement tests with eight standard gases made by Korea Gas Safety Corporation. We demonstrated the excellence of our instruments in measuring accuracy other than detecters through experimental results.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the pollution level (gaseous and particle phase) in the public facilities for the PAHs, non-regulated materials, forecast the risk level by the health risk assessment (HRA) and propose the guideline level. PAH assessments through sampling of particulate matter of diameter < 2.5 ${\mu}m$ ($PM_{2.5}$). The user and worker exposure scenario for the PAHs consists of 24-hour exposure scenario (WIES) assuming the worst case and the normal exposure scenario (MIES) based on the survey. This study investigated 20 PAH substances selected out of 32 substances known to be carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic. The risk assessment applies major toxic equivalency factor (TEF) proposed from existing studies and estaimates individual Excess Cancer Risk (ECR). The study assesses the fine dusts ($PM_{2.5}$) and the exposure levels of the gaseous and particle PAH materials for 6 spots in each 8 facility, e.g. underground subway stations, child-care facilities, elderly care facilities, super market, indoor parking lot, terminal waiting room, internet caf$\acute{e}$ (PC-rooms), movie theater. For internet caf$\acute{e}$ (PC-rooms) in particular, that marks the highest $PM_{2.5}$ concentration and the average concentration of 10 spots (2 spots for each cafe) is 73.3 ${\mu}g/m^3$ (range: 6.8-185.2 ${\mu}g/m^3$). The high level of $PM_{2.5}$ seen in internet cafes was likely due to indoor smoking in most cases. For the gaseous PAHs, the detection frequency for 4-5 rings shows high and the elements with 6 rings shows low frequency. For the particle PAHs, the detection frequency for 2-3 rings shows low and the elements with 6 rings show high frequency. As a result, it is investigated that the most important PAHs are the naphthalene, acenaphthene and phenanthrene from the study of Kim et al. (2013) and this annual study. The health risk assessment demonstrates that each facility shows the level of $10^{-6}-10^{-4}$. Considering standards and local source of pollution levels, it is judged that the management standard of the benzo (a)pyrene, one of the PAHs, shall be managed with the range of 0.5-1.2 $ng/m^3$. Smoking and ventilation were considered as the most important PAHs exposure associated with public facility $PM_{2.5}$. This study only estimated for inhalation health risk of PAHs and focused on the associated cancer risk, while multiple measurements would be necessary for public health and policy.

In this study, storage stability of reduced sulfur compounds ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, $CS_2$, and DMDS) and $SO_2$ in sampling bags was investigated in terms of two contrasting storage approaches between forward (F) and reverse (R) direction. The samples for the F method were prepared at the same time and analyzed sequentially through time. In contrast, those of reverse (R) method were prepared sequentially in advance and analyzed all at once upon the preparation of the last sample. In addition, relative performance between two different bag materials (PVF and PEA) was also assessed by using 100 ppb standard. The response factors (RF) of gaseous RSC samples were determined by gas chromatography/pulsed flame photometric detector (GC/PFPD) combined with air server (AS)/thermal desorber (TD) system at storage intervals of 0, 1, and 3 days. There is no statistical difference in all RSCs between two storage methods. However, the results of relative recovery indicated 2.58~12.8% differences in compound type between the two storage methods. Moreover, loss rates and storage stability of $H_2S$ and $SO_2$ were considerably affected by bag materials than any other variables. Therefore, some considerations about storage methods (or bag material types) for sulfur compounds are needed if stored by sampling bag method.
Computational flow dynamics(CFD) has been frequently applied to the waste incinerators to understand the flow performance for various design and operating parameters. Though it needs many simplifications and complicated flow models, the reasonability of its results is not fully evaluated. For example, the inlet condition is calculated from an arbitrarily assumed properties of combustion gas release from the waste bed, since the combustion in the bed is difficult to be predicted. In this study, the computational modeling and calculation procedures of CFD for the grate type waste incinerator were evaluated using comparative simulations. Though the assumption method on the generation of the combustion gas directly affected the temperature and gas species concentrations, the overall flow pattern was dominated by the secondary air jets. The gaseous reaction could be included by assuming the release of the products of incomplete combusion from the bed. However, the reaction effficiency cannot not be directly evaluated from the species concentration, since it is not possible to simulate the actual co-existence of fuel rich or oxygen rich puffs over the bed. In predicting the turbulence, the higher order model, such as Reynolds stress model, gave difference shape of local recirculation zones, but similar results was acquired from the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. Introducing radiation model was required for accurate temperature prediction, but it also caused heat imbalance due to the fixed temperature of the inlet, i.e. the waste bed. Thus, the computational modeling procedures on incinerators and the analysis of the predicted results should be progressed carefully. Though not validated experimentally, current simulation method is capable of comparative evaluation on the flow-related parameters such as the furnace shape and secondary air injection using identical inlet conditions. Quantitative analysis using measures of the residence time and mixing is essential to compare the flow performance efficiently.
