Thermal decomposition reaction of gas-phase UO2(hfacac)2. THF was investigated in a static cell. IR spectroscopic method was used to study the thermal decomptsition of gas phase uranyl complexes. The decomposition reaction products were separated by using thermal-gradient fractional sublimation method utilizing the differences in their volatility.
The prediction of hydrate pellet decomposition characteristics is required to design the regasification process of GTS (gas to solid) technology, which is considered as an economic alternative for LNG technology to transport natural gas produced from small and stranded gas wells. Mathematical model based on the conservation principles, the phase equilibrium relation, equation of gas state and phase change kinetics was set up and numerical solution procedure employing volume averaged fixed grid formulation and extended enthalpy method are implemented. Initially, porous methane hydrate pellet is at uniform temperature and pressure within hydrate stable region. The pressure starts to decrease with a fixed rate down to the final pressure and is kept constant afterwards while the bounding surface of pellet is heated by convection. The predicted convective heat and mass transfer accompanied by the decomposed gas flow through hydrate/ice solid matrix is reported focused on the comparison of spherical and cylindrical pellets having the same effective radius.

Photo decomposition of gas phase benzene by $TiO_2$ thin films chemically deposited on alumina balls were investigated under UV irradiation. Photo decomposition rates were measured in real time during the reaction using a photo ionization detector, which ionizes C-H bonding of benzene molecules and then converts into volatile organic compounds (VOCs) concentrations. From the measuring results, the VOCs concentration increased instantly when IN irradiated because C-H bonds of benzene molecules strongly absorbed on the surface of $TiO_2$ films before the IN irradiation was destroyed by photo decomposition. After that, the VOCs concentration decreased with increasing surface area of $TiO_2$ and reaction time under the IN irradiation. At the optimal conditions for the photo decomposition of gas phase benzene, the reaction rate of the photo decomposition for high concentrations (over 60 ppm) was slow but that of relatively low concentration (under 60 ppm) was fast, due to limited surface area of $TiO_2$ thin films for the reaction. Thus, it is concluded that the photo decomposition rate was mainly affected by the surface area of $TiO_2$ or absorption reaction.
This paper presents the methods and examples of proper orthogonal decomposition analysis for the understanding of high speed flame movements induced by combustion instabilities in a gas turbine. Phase resolved high-speed flame images were obtained from the combustion test of an industrial gas turbine at the rate of 2000 frame per second, and were utilized for the proper orthogonal decomposition. This analyzing method provided useful information regarding combustion instability characteristics bringing alleviation idea of the instabilities, such as principle modes of flame movement and their energy fractions which mean by which modes and how much the flame coherent structures are composed.
The objective of this study is to find solid waste decomposition in landfill without leachate discharge. This study was observed variation of landfill gas production rate and leachate for stabilization assessment, and using four sets of lysimeter as experimental apparatus. Soild waste decomposition was accelerated in without leachate discharge system by sufficient moisture for methane bacteria. And gas production rate was between 54.2ℓ/kg VS∼335.9ℓ/kg VS in each lysimeter. Generation time of methane gas was showed different in each lysimeter, but it was much faster than literature research. The time of stabilization phase were began as follows : L-1 400 day, L-2 350 day, L-3 170 day and L-4 70 day respectively. Decreasing times of BOD/COD ratio and C/N ratio were necessary more than literature research because organic matter was not discharge such as wash out.
Demilitarization involves the disposal and recovery of obsolete explosives or ammunition. Cyclotol has been used as a military explosive along with RDX and HMX. A limited number of processes exist for safe disposal due to their sensitivity to thermal shock. Rotary kilns are widely used for thermal decomposition in many countries due to cost effectiveness and simplicity compared with supercritical oxidation. Phase change as well as condensed phase reactions(CPRs) and gas phase reactions(GPRs) with rates described by the Arrhenius equation of cyclotol has been considered in this work. Changes in gas fraction, reaction rate and mass of explosives were predicted at 490, 505 and 575 K. A maximum temperature of 2062 K has been predicted within the reactor at an initial temperature of 575 K due to GPRs. From this research, Thermal decomposition in the rotary kiln is plausible for demilitarization.
