  • The pressure drop phenomenon that occurs when the same flow rate is supplied to the gas regulator was analyzed. The regulator moves the position of the piston through the interaction of the force acting on the upper and lower parts of the piston and the spring tension to release the pressure of a specific range in a specific environment as constant pressure, thereby maintaining the pressure. The flow characteristics and pressure control process of the regulator were investigated through a numerical analysis technique as the volume of the fluid inside the regulator changed. As the gap between the piston and the piston seat decreased, the pressure drop increased and the flow velocity increased. It was verified through numerical analysis that the piston was positioned at 0.12mm under the same conditions as the pressure-flow test (inlet pressure 3MPa, outlet pressure 0.8MPa, flow rate 70kg/h).

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the three-dimensional turbulence flow characteristics of a rotor passage of an one-stage axial flow gas turbine and to investigate the effects of a boundary layer fence installed on the hub endwall of the rotor passage. Secondary flows occurring within the rotor passage (e.g. horseshoe vortex, passage vortex, and cross flow) cause secondary loss and reduce turbine efficiency. To control these secondary flows, a boundary layer fence measuring half the height of the thickness of the inlet boundary layer was installed on the hub endwall of the rotor passage. This study was performed numerically. The results show that the wake and secondary flows generated by the stator reduced the rotor load to constrain the development of cross flow and secondary flow reinforced by the rotor passage. In addition, the secondary vortices occurring within the rotor passage were reduced by the rotation of the rotor. Although, the boundary layer fence induced additional vortices, giving rise to an additional loss of turbine, its presence was shown to reduce the total pressure loss when compared to effects of the case without fence regardless of the relative position of blades by enervating secondary vortices occurred within the rotor passage.

  • We develop a heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 1 MPa and tested steam pressure is 0.7 MPa. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). We tested the heat exchanger module with changing the position of each heat exchanger module. We measured the inlet and outlet temperature of each heat exchanger module and calculated the heat exchange rate. The results show that if module C is placed at second stage (the 1st stage is always module O, bare tube module), there is no need to attach an additional heat exchanger module. In this case the exit temperature of module C is low enough to enter an economizer which is more effective in heat recovery than a heat exchanger module.

  • A sodium fire facility with a test chamber of 1.7㎥ volume was constructed and operated to carry out experiments of sodium fires such as pool, spray, and columnar fires which might take place in sodium-related facilities. The experimental results of pool fires showed that the increase of temperature and pressure in the test chamber was much smaller than that of spray and columnar fires even though their amount of sodium injection in the chamber was much larger compared to other types of fires. And it was found in pool fires that the temperatures of sodium pool and the gas temperature in the test chamber had been maintained much longer than other types of fires, and that the chamber pressure had come to vacuum due to depletion of the oxygen for a large amount of sodium injection in the chamber. The experimental results of spray fires showed that sprayed sodium of small particles instantly reacted with oxygen, and that its reaction heat increased gas temperature and pressure of the test chamber rapidly and decreased them shortly. And the maximum gas temperature and pressure of the test chamber in spray fires ore greatly changed according to the inlet sodium temperature in the test chamber. The characteristics of the columnar fires were almost similar to those of spray fires, but the maximum temperature and pressure of the test chamber were much smaller even for a large amount of sodium injection. And it was shown in spray and columnar fires that the temperatures at each measurement position in the test chamber were quite different due to the instantaneous sodium oxidation in comparision with pool fires. Finally, the graphex powder was proved to be a very effective extinguisher against sodium pool fires.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to verify the startup characteristic of a Center Body Diffuser (CBD) for simulating a low pressure environment when at high altitudes. Vacuum chamber pressure and startup characteristics of the CBD were investigated according to various geometries of the center body structure by a cold gas flow test. The test results show that the startup pressure is lowest when the center body contraction angle is approximately $15^{\circ}$. The startup characteristic of the CBDs significantly improves when the diffuser inlet length ($L_d/D_d$) is decreasing and the divergence length ($L_s$) is increasing. Additionally, it is possible to simulate various high altitude, low pressure conditions for various rocket engines that have different nozzle expansion ratios by adjusting the center body's position inside the diffuser.

  • Measurements of local CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, $C_3$H$_{8}$, NOx concentrations and flame temperature are made for partially premixed flame with and without acoustic excitation. The CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, and $C$_3$H_8$ concentrations are determined by thermal conductivity detection (Gas-chromatograph) and NOx concentrations are determined by chemiluminescent detection (NOx analyser). To measure local sample concentration, sampling probe was made by quartz with inlet diameter of 0.25mm. In the case of excitation, the visual shape of the flame is changed from laminar flame to turbulent-like flame. The flame length is also reduced, and the flame width becomes broad. In the observation of emission concentration without acoustic excitation, meanwhile, the $CO_2$ and NOx concentrations peak at flame front where the mixture meets with surrounding air, and the CO concentration is increasing at maximum position of CO2 concentration and peaks at the centerline of the burner. In the case of acoustic excitation, the $CO_2$ concentration is widely occurred at nozzle of the burner and is higher relative to unexcitation. The CO concentration is much reduced, but NOx concentration is more increasing. And flame temperature is higher relative to unexcitation. These are caused by enhancing of mixing with surrounding air due to excitation. However, in the case of acoustic excitation, the total NOx concentration is reduced because of the shortened flame length which affects residence time.e.
