스크러버 내 충진층에서의 압력강하 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experiments for Pressure Drop of Scrubbing Layer in a Scrubber System )

  • According to the regulation on the pollution of the marine environment, SOx emission from ships has to be reduced. A SOx scrubbing system installed in a funnel of a ship is considered in order to reduce SOx emission. A scrubbing layer with a porous material is present in the funnel to increase the contact area between exhaust gas and water. In this study, experiments on the pressure drop characteristics in the scrubbing layer are conducted to investigate the effect of the scrubber on the engine load. The pressure drop according to flow rate of air instead of exhaust gas was measured for fillers such as sphere, pall ring and saddle in the scrubbing layer. First of all, porosity is experimentally measured for the three types of filler and it is confirmed that the porosity of the saddle-type filler was the largest. The pressure drop according to the change in air flow rate was measured for the three types of fillers in the scrubbing layer. As a result, the pressure drop was the smallest in the scrubbing layer with the saddle-type filler which has the largest porosity. In addition, the effect of spraying water flowing counter flow against air flow is experimentally examined. It is known that the pressure drop is increased because the air flow space is reduced when water is sprayed. In the case of the saddle, the pressure drop is about 1.5 to 2 times greater than that when only air flows at the optimum exhaust gas-water injection ratio.

기계적 편향판 설치위치의 변화에 따른 유동특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics with the Installed Location Change of Mechanical Deflector)

  • Thrust vector control is the method which generates the side force and roll moment by controlling exhausted gas directly in a rocket nozzle. TVC is classified by mechanical and fluid dynamic methods. Mechanical methods can change the flow direction by several objects installed in a rocket nozzle exhaust such as tapered ramp tabs and jet vane. Fluid dynamic methods control the flight direction with the injection of secondary gaseous flows into the rocket nozzle. The tapered ramp tabs of mechanical methods are used in this paper. They installed at the rear in the rocket nozzle could be freely moved along axial and radial direction on the mounting ring to provide the mass flow rate which is injected from the rocket nozzle. TVC of the tapered ramp tabs has the potential to produce both large axial thrust and high lateral force. We have conducted the experimental research and flow analysis of ramp tabs to show the performance and the structural integrity of the TVC. The experiments are carried out with the supersonic cold flow system and the schlieren graph. This paper provides to analyze the location of normal shock wave and distribution of surface pressure on the region enclosed by the tapered ramp tabs.

  • Two perforated plates are placed in parallel and staggered arrangements with a gap distance of 2 times of the hole diameter, and initial crossflow passes between the plates. Both the injection and effusion hole diameters are 10 mm, and the Reynolds number based on the hole diameter and hole-to-hole pitch are fixed to 10,000 and 6 times of the hole diameter, respectively. To investigate the effect of crossflow, the flow rate of crossflow is changed from 0.2 to 2 times of that of the impinging jet. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to determine the local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the upward facing surface of the effusion plate. With the initial crossflow, the heat/mass transfer rates on the effusion (target) plate decrease as the velocity of crossflow increases, since the crossflow induces the locally low transfer regions formed at the mid-way between the effusion holes. However, the impingement/effusion cooling with crossflow presents higher heat/mass transfer rates than the array jet impingement cooling with the same initial crossflow.

  • The spray-induced mixing characteristics and thermal decomposition of aqueous urea solution into ammonia have been studied to design optimum sizes and geometries of the mixing chamber in SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. The cold flow tests about the urea-injection nozzle were performed to clarify the parameters of spray mixing characteristics such as mean diameter and velocity of drops and spray width determined from the interactions between incoming air and injected drops. Discrete particle model in Fluent code was adopted to simulate spray-induced mixing process and the experimental results on the spray characteristics were used as input data of numerical calculations. The simulation results on the spray-induced mixing were verified by comparing the spray width extracted from the digital images with the simulated Particle tracks of injected drops. The single kinetic model was adopted to predict thermal decomposition of urea solution into ammonia and solved simultaneously along with the verified spray model. The hot air generator was designed to match the flow rate and temperature of the exhaust gas of the real engines The measured ammonia productions in the hot air generator were compared with the numerical predictions and the comparison results showed good agreements. Finally, we concluded that the design capabilities for sizing optimum mixing chamber were established.

액체 점도에 따른 Y-jet 노즐 내부 유동 및 분무 특성의 변화 (Effect of liquid viscosity on internal flow and spray characteristics of Y-jet atomizers)

  • Internal flow characteristics within Y-jet atomizers and the local drop size distribution and cross-sectional averaged drop size at the outside were investigated with the liquid and air injection pressures, mixing port length of atomizers, and the liquid properties taken as parameters. To examine the effect of the liquid viscosity, glycerin-water mixtures were used in this study. The liquid viscosity plays only a minor role in determining the internal flow pattern and the spatial distribution shape of drops, but the drop sizes themselves generally increase with increasing of the liquid viscosity. An empirical correlation for the liquid discharge coefficient at the liquid port was deduced from the experimental results; the liquid discharge coefficient strongly depends on the liquid flow area at the mixing point which is proportional to the local volumetric quality(.betha.$_{Y}$), and the volumetric quality was included in the correlation. Regardless of the value of the liquid viscosity, the compressible flow through the gas port was well represented by the polytropic expansion process(k=1.2), and the mixing point pressure could be simply correlated to the aspect ratio( $l_{m}$/ $d_{m}$) of the mixing port and the air/liquid mass flow rate ratio( $W_{g}$/ $W_{f}$) as reported in the previous study.udy.udy.y.

Study of Driving and Thermal Stability of Anode-type Ion Beam Source by Charge Repulsion Mechanism

  • We fabricated an anode-type ion beam source and studied its driving characteristics of the initial extraction of ions using two driving mechanisms: a diffusion phenomenon and a charge repulsion phenomenon. For specimen exposed to the ion beam in two methods, the surface impurity element was investigated by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Upon Ar gas injection for plasma generation the ion beam source was operated for 48 hours. We found a Fe 2p peak 5.4 at. % in the initial ions by the diffusion mechanism while no indication of Fe in the ions released in the charge repulsion mechanism. As for a long operation of 200 min, the temperature of ion beam sources was measured to increase at the rate of ${\sim}0.1^{\circ}C/min$ and kept at the initial value of $27^{\circ}C$ for driving by diffusion and charge repulsion mechanism, respectively. In this study, we confirmed that the ion beam source driven by the charge repulsion mechanism was very efficient for a long operation as proved by little electrode damage and thermal stability.

일중음의 인체 전립선암 세포에 대한 성장억제 효과 (Cytotoxic Effect of Iljoong-eum on Human Prostate Cancer Cells)

  • Objectives : The study was intended to investigate whether Iljoong-eum (IJE) significantly affects proliferation and growth of prostate cancer cells. Materials and Methods : In vitro, after the treatment of DU-145 and PC-3 cells with IJE, we performed Sulforhodamine B (SRB) method. In vivo, a total of 8 male nude mice subcutaneously transplanted with the PC-3 cell line were divided in 2 groups. An experimental group was given IJE orally at a dose of 4.29ml/kg per day from the 8th to 31st day following tumor injection. All mice were observed for 31 days, and sacrificed by CO2 gas asphyxiation at the end of the experiment. The mean tumor volume and body weight of both groups were compared using Student's t-tests. Results : In vitro, IJE inhibited significantly proliferation and growth of DU-145 cells and PC-3 cells. In vivo, IJE inhibited significantly proliferation and growth of PC-3 cells xenografted into athymic nude mice. Conclusions : Our data has shown that IJE is effective in suppressing the growth rate of prostate cancer cells.

점화에너지 및 방전시간이 스파크 점화 기관의 성능에 미치는 영향 (A Study on the Effects of Ignition Energy and Discharge Duration on the Performances of Spark Ignited Engines)

  • An experimental investigation is proceeded to study on the relationship between spark ignition characteristics and the performances of an S. I. engine. The ignition parameters examined in this study are the ignition energy and discharging duration. The combustion pressure and exhaust gas are measured during the experiment. From the measured data of cylinder pressure, the heat release rate, the mass fraction burned, and the COV of IMEP are calculated. The dwell time and the injection time are varied. A single cylinder engine and a 30kW dynamometer are employed. Four different kinds of ignition systems are assembled, and one commercial ignition system is adopted. The experimental results show that the ignition energy is increased as the dwell time extended until the ignition energy is saturated. The higher ignition energy is effective in achieving the laster burning velocity and less producing HC emission. However, when the amount of ignition energy is similar, while the discharge duration becomes longer, the burning velocity is reduced but the engine operation becomes stable in terms of the COV of IMEP.

농촌 소하천에서의 재폭기 계수 추정 (Prediction of Reaeration Coefficients in Rural Small Streams)

  • Reaeration phenomena, the physical process of absorption of oxygen from atmosphere, is one of the important parameters of dissolved oxygen simulation in streams. This study was aimed at predicting reaeration coefficients in rural small streams, examining the influence of drop structure on reaeration and the seasonal fluctuation of reaeration coefficients. Reaeration coefficients of five streams including four tributaries of Bokha watershed in Gyeonggi Ichon and Onyang stream in Chungnam Onyang were measured. Constant rate injection (CRI) method using propane and Rhodamine-WT as gas and dye tracer was adopted. Reaeration coefficients ranged between 6.16 and 29.16 reciprocal day, higher than those in USGS database. Prediction equation,$k_2=CV^{0.593}$, was regressed from the measured data at 95% confidence level, with an absolute error of 21.2% and a standard error of 4.0 reciprocal days. Reaeration coefficients of experimental reaches with drop structure showed percentile increases of 42.3 to 159.2 compared to those without it, an indication that drop structure plays an important role on stream reaeration. Taking into consideration the seasonal fluctuation of reaeration coefficients, the values measured during September and October were the highest, mainly due to the removal of aquatic plants. by intensive rainfall during summer.

  • This experiment was carried out to study the egg transports and distribution patterns in the oviducts of superovulated rabbits by administrations of PGF2$\alpha$. Group I (3 does) and Group II (3 does) were killed at 24 hours, 48 hours after mating, respectively. Group III (6 does0 received a single injection of 5mg/Kg of body weight of PGF2$\alpha$ at 24 hours after mating and killed at 4 hours after PGF2$\alpha$ administration. The oviducts were frozen in LN-gas, thawed using Howe's method, and cleared in Benzyl-Benzoate sol. using Orsini's technique. The location of the eggs and the AIJ. were identified using transmitted light from a dissecting microscope. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The average numbers of detected eggs from the oviduct were 28.6 (26-32), 26.0 (24-29), and 27.1 (22-34) in Group I, II, and III, respectively. 2. Detection rate was 88.7%, 76.4%, and 84.9% in Group I, II, and III, respectively. 3. The positionof all AIJ. was 44.2% to 55.0%(av. 49.5%) of the distance from the fimbriae to the UTJ.(Utero-Tubal Junction). 4. The changes of egg distribution patterns were as follows: Group I Ampulla : 52.3%, Isthmus : 47.7%, Group II Ampulla : 8.9%, Isthmus : 91.1% Group III Ampulla : 8.0% Isthmus : 92.0%.
