  • In this paper, a co-axial cylinder type ozonizer using silent discharge known as an ozone generation was designed and fabricated. A cooling system was installed to investigate the characteristics of ozone generation in accordance with temperature change of the supplied gas known as an important factor. The characteristics of ozone generation were investigated in accordance with the existence of cooling system and the change of cooling temperature.

소형 가솔린 기관의 정상 열전도 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Steady-State Heat Conduction Characteristics of a Small Gasoline Engine)

  • In this paper, heat conduction characteristics of the cylinder block of a small 3 - cylinder, 4¬stroke gasoline engine were analyzed using the 3 - dimensional finite element method. Based on the experimental data, the engine cycle simulation was carried out in order to obtain the heat transfer coefficient and the temperature of the gas and the mean heat transfer coefficient of the coolant. Heat transfer data of the gas, which were averaged with respect to exposure time to the wall, were taken as convective boundary conditions corresponding to the operating conditions to obtain the temperature fields of the block. Finally silicon nitride(Si3N4) was taken as the material of the block liner in order to investigate its temperature distribution characteristics and compare the results with the original ones.

  • The BGK equation, which is the kinetic model equation of Boltzmann equation, is solved using FDDO(finite difference with the discrete-ordinate method) to compute the rarefied flow of monatomic gas. Using reduced velocity distribution and discrete ordinate method, the scalar equation is transformed into a system of hyperbolic equations. High resolution ENO(Essentially Non-Oscillatory) scheme based on Harten-Yee's MFA(Modified Flux Approach) method with Strang-type explicit time integration is applied to solve the system equations. The calculated results are well compared with the experimental density field of NACA0012 airfoil, validating the developed computer code. Next. the computed results of circular cylinder flow for various Knudsen numbers are compared with the DSMC(Direct Simulation Monte Carlo) results by Vogenitz et al. The present scheme is found to be useful and efficient far the analysis of two-dimensional rarefied gas flows, especially in the transitional flow regime, when compared with the DSMC method.

  • Experiments were conducted to get the design concepts for the continuous aluminum particle feeding system. Two opposed cylinders were used. Aluminum particles in one cylinder were ejected to the air by the supplying gas and the pressure of the other cylinder. It was not possible to eject more aluminum mass flowrate than that of gas if particles were just thrust by the pressure difference between two cylinders. Aluminum particle/air mixture in the flow system was successfully ignited by the electric spark.

메탄올 연료를 사용한 4실린더 4사이클 가솔린기관의 성능 및 배출물 예측에 관한 연구 (A study on the prediction of performance and emission of a 4-cylinder 4-cycle gasoline engine with methanol fuel)

  • The performance and emission for the 4-cylinder 4-cycle gasoline engine fueled with methanol is predicted in this paper. The model for all the processes is illustrated. It computes the gas pressure, gas temperature and the rate of formation of nitric oxide and carbon monoxide at each crank angle using basic energy equation and reaction kinetic mechanism. The results are obtained at different operating conditions encompassing changes in fuel-air equivalence ratio, engine speed, spark timing and compression ratio. The special characteristics of methanol such as high power output and nitric oxide emissions have been truthfully predicted by the model.

  • A modified spray impingement model has been developed, which is assessed against experiments for the impinging sprays on the small combustion chamber at various gas pressures. To investigate spray behaviors in the diesel combustion chamber, a transparent constant-volume chamber is made which is similar to the combustion chamber of the real diesel engine. The chamber is pressurized by N2 gas from 0 bar to 20 bar to find the effects of ambient pressures. The behaviors of spray injected into this chamber and dispersed after impingement on the cylinder wall is measured two-dimensionally using laser sheet Mie scattering method. The physical submodels have been properly modified to improve the prediction capability of original KIVA code to describe the spray behaviors after impingement on the curved cylinder wall. In terms of spray dynamics and evolution. numerical results give qualitatively good agreements with experimental data.

  • Flexure bearings have been used in linear-resonant compressors to maintain a non-contacting clearance seal between the piston and cylinder. There are two types of tangential cantilever bearing and spiral arm bearing with flexure bearings. A newly devised linear flexure bearing (KIMM-Ml) for compression refrigeration machines is disclosed having improved tight gas clearance maintaining capability for better system performance. KIMM-Ml is an integrated device comprising an axially moving diaphragm with circumferentially arranged arc-shaped flexure blades secured between rim and hub spacers, which turn out to have higher radial stiffness than the one with circumferential tangential cantilever flexure blades. It is expected for KIMM-Ml to play a key role in designing long life, special purpose compression refrigeration machines by providing frictionless, non-wearing, linear movement and radial support for the machines as well as a gas clearance seal by maintaining extremely tight clearances between piston and cylinder.

  • The present paper investigates the heat transfer characteristics in a cylinder packed with porous medium of solid spheres for various parameters such as mass flow rate, sphere diameter, length of the porous medium, and gas temperatures. Pressures and temperatures at the inlet and outlet regions were measured by using static pressure gages and R-type thermocouples. The modified relationship based on the Ergun equation is suggested for the estimation of pressure drops. In addition, the useful empirical correlation for thermal efficiency is obtained in the current study. Thermal efficiency is expressed in terms of non-dimensional time, sphere diameter, porosity, and pressure drops. It is also found that the pressure drop through the cylinder becomes larger as the gas temperature does higher at the inlet region, whereas it substantially decreases when the inlet flow rate decreases.

  • Water mist fire suppression system is environmental system and needs a flange pump to jet water. In this research, high pressure Nitrogen cylinder is used as a pressurizing source instead of flange pump, and also we tried to find the possibility of using compressed Nitrogen as a fire suppression agent. As a result, it was possible to design water mist fire suppression system with Nitrogen cylinder and suppress oil fire effectively. With DK1.58 nozzle, the optimum Nitrogen pressure was 80bar and the pressure was stable during water mist spray. However, jet of Nitrogen was not effective fire suppression agent when it was dually used with water mist because water mist has blown away, and it is efficient way to use compressed Nitrogen as a pressurizing source only.

Die design system for deep drawing and ironing of high pressure gas cylinder

  • This paper describes a research work on the die design for the deep drawing & ironing(D. D. I) of high pressure gas cylinder. D. D. I die set is large-sized die used in horizontal press, which is usually composed of a drawing, and an ironing die. Design method of D. D. I die set is very different from that of conventional cold forging die set. Outer diameter of the die set is fixed because of press specification and that of the insert should be as small as possible for saving material cost. In this study, D. D. I die set has been designed to consider those characteristics, and the feasibility of the designed die has been verified by FE-analysis. In addition, the automated system of die design has been developed in AutoCAD R14 by formulating the applied methods to the regular rules.
