This study aimed to adaptive reuse plan a take advantage of Suncheon Bay Garden Expo 2013. Detailed objectives included: to identify and foster cultural and ecological resources in Suncheon Bay and Garden Expo Site; and to search and propose characterized program in the site for efficient utilization; and to revitalize a site for the vitalizations of the region where garden culture and garden industries for strengthening local competitiveness. The study was multi-phased. The first stage included basic surveys such as site status and environmental context analysis, and questionnaires and similar case studies, and the second stage was to review the direction of preliminary planning, develop associated industries and strategies for regional revitalization and review and incorporate project details. And the third stage aimed to develop a comprehensive plan from spatial plans and program plans and suggest plans to vitalize the operation of the site. The results of the study are as follows: First, the characterization strategy is 'healing experience tourism', 'healing garden', 'healing herbal care' are suitable for the site and regional revitalization. Second, the dimension of 2013 Suncheon Bay Garden Expo which was distinguished into four areas, in consideration of the characteristics and contents of the garden expo site for efficient operation and maintenance. Four area are as follows: the park oriented area, the experiential tourism oriented area, the existing conservation oriented area, and the area for associated industries. Third, the practice of private and public partnerships is needed in order to efficiently manage and operations. The significance of this study is that it is seeking to take advantage of the Garden Expo site and set the plan by existing resources and in consideration of local characteristics, in conjunction with area to envision and proposed management plan. Some problems are remained which have not been able to deal with details program and organization and financial planning programs for the operation of the site. This is for further study.

The purpose of this study is to present the design method to embody the cultural heritage and to reproduce the image of Korean Traditional Garden these days. For this purpose, to begin with, the major elements which can be applied to the planning and design were extracted by to study on the prototype of Korean Traditional Garden, and the process and the outcome for reconstruction of traditional garden were presented by design proposal for the Korean Garden in the exhibition space of EXPO '90, the International Garden and Greenary Exposition, Osaka, Japan, 1990. The study on the prototype of Korean Garden is focused on the spatial organization, the facilities allocation, and the gardening technic of traditional garden, and the major contents of the case study are as follow ; (1) To investigate the constraints and the opportunities of site development by the analysis and the synthesis of the site condition for the case study, (2) To study on the planning technic which can be applied to the site, (3) To establish the planning models which can be introduced into the site and to choose the final model by the comparison and valuation of them, (4) To set up the Master Plan on the basis of the final model. In spite of the fact that the method and the contents have a lot of problems, the significance of this study is to present a possibility to reproduce the Korean Traditional Garden these days, moreover to grope for the opportunities to propagate it internationally.

본 연구는 국내 정원박람회 개최 효과를 대상지별로 비교 분석함으로써 향후 정원박람회 개최를 위한 기초자료 제시를 목적으로 수행하였다. 2013 순천만국제정원박람회, 2015 서울정원박람회, 2022 고양국제꽃박람회 세 대상지의 만족도와 경제, 사회·문화, 환경·생태, 운영 측면에서 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요소들을 분석하였다. 연구의 결과 세 대상지 모두 만족도가 3.5 이상의 값으로 높게 나타났다. 특히 2013 순천만국제정원박람회의 만족도가 가장 높았으며, 2013 순천만국제정원박람회와 2015 서울정원박람회의 만족도에 차이가 있음으로 나타났다. 만족도의 정도에 차이가 있다는 것을 의미하는데, 지역 축제로서 2013 순천만국제정원박람회는 '순천만정원'이 국가정원 1호로 지정될 만큼 높은 위상을 얻었으며, 시민참여, 생태보전 등의 가치가 부합하여 경제, 사회·문화, 환경적 활성화를 꾀하였기 때문에 큰 만족도를 얻을 수 있었던 것으로 판단된다. 정원박람회별 만족도에 영향을 주는 인식 유형 비교의 결과 2013 순천만국제정원박람회와 2015 서울정원박람회는 네 가지 요인에 모두 영향을 미치고 있는 반면 2022 고양국제꽃박람회는 운영 측면이 만족도에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 고양국제꽃박람회가 이미 지역적으로 브랜드가 고착된 행사이기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 만족도에 영향을 미치는 인식 유형의 세부 요인을 분석한 결과 세 대상지 공통적으로 사회.문화적 요인의 문화행사 유치, 지역에 대한 자긍심과 애향심 향상, 자녀들의 교육에 도움이 된다는 것이다. 환경·생태적 요인에서는 교통 혼잡에 따른 생활 불편으로 분석되었다. 대상지의 만족도에 미치는 요인의 차이 비교 분석과도 의미를 같이 한다고 볼 수 있다. 사회·문화적, 환경·생태적 측면에서는 만족도에 미치는 영향의 차이가 없으나 경제와 운영 측면에서는 차이가 있다고 분석되었기 때문이다. 본 연구의 분석 결과를 바탕으로 정리하면, 향후 국내 정원박람회 개최 위해서는 지역의 특색에 맞는, 그리고 잠재된 가치가 있는 '환경', '생태'적 정원 소재를 적절하게 활용하여 생태적 가치를 살린 지속가능한 친환경적 관광자원 개발이 될 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다. 또한 개최 지역만의 차별화된 정체성 확립을 위한 문화·예술 프로그램을 계획하여 지역 박람회의 마케팅 수단으로 적절히 활용될 때에 그 가치가 더 돋보일 것이다. 지역민과의 소통을 통해 잘 계획된 지역축제는 도시브랜드 구축과 함께 도시 경쟁력을 확보하여 지역의 이미지 쇄신과 지역 커뮤니티 활성화에도 영향을 미칠 수 있으므로 지역주민들의 참여와 국가적 혹은 지방단체의 협력은 필수적이라 할 수 있다.
