Finite element simulations on the ultimate response of extended stiffened end-plate joints

  • The design criteria and the corresponding performance levels characterize the response of extended stiffened end-plate beam-to-column joints. In order to guarantee a ductile behavior, hierarchy criteria should be adopted to enforce the plastic deformations in the ductile components of the joint. However, the effectiveness of thesecriteria can be impaired if the actual resistance of the end-plate material largely differs from the design value due to the potential activation of brittle failure modes of the bolt rows (e.g., occurrence of failure mode 3 in the place of mode 1 per bolt row). Also the number and the position of bolt rows directly affect the joint response. The presence of a bolt row in the center of the connection does not improve the strength of the joint under both gravity, wind and seismic loading, but it can modify the damage pattern of ductile connections, reducing the gap opening between the end-plate and the column face. On the other hand, the presence of a central bolt row can influence the capacity of the joint to resist the catenary actions developing under a column loss scenario, thus improving the joint robustness. Aiming at investigating the influence of these features on both the cyclic behavior and the response under column loss, a wide range of finite element analyses (FEAs) were performed and the main results are described and discussed in this paper.

  • 모관과 지관의 다양한 접합형상에 대하여 접합궤적을 수학적으로 유도하였다. 이 접합궤적에 용접부의 루트갭 및 절단폭 등을 보정하여 실제적으로 절단궤적을 결정하여 NC 코드를 생성하고 그 경로를 확인하기 위하여 ghost 기능을 구현하였다. 척회전인 C축의 8개 구간별로 A, B축의 Tilting을 사용하여 개선 기능을 구현하였으며, 이는 절단궤적을 따라서 절단하면서 동시에 개선이 가능하도록 6축 CNC 파이프 코스터 전용 CAM 프로그램을 개발하였다.

Modified T-Plate Interpositional Arthroplasty for Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis: A New and Versatile Option

  • Background This study has been conducted with the aim of evaluating modified T-plate interpositional arthroplasty. Methods A prospective comparative study in patients admitted with temporomandibular joint ankylosis. Ankylotic temporomandibular joint arthroplasty included condylectomy gap arthroplasty in 7, temporalis muscle flap interpositional arthroplasty in 8, and modified T-plate interpositional arthroplasty in 13 cases. The patients were followed for three years. Collected data were tabulated and subjected to Fisher's exact test, chi-square test and probability estimation. Results A significant increase in interincisal distance of 32 mm was seen in 12 (92.31%) patients in the T-plate interposition group, in 2 (25%) cases of the temporalis muscle flap interposition group, and in 1 case (14.28%) of the condylectomy group at 12, 24, and 36 months. Re-ankylosis was observed in 1 case (9.69%) of the T-plate interposition group, while as it was observed in 4 (50%) cases in the temporalis muscle flap interposition group and 4 (57.14%) cases in the condylectomy group, and these differences were statistically significant. Conclusions Our clinical experience with the use of the T-plate over the past 5 years has been encouraging, and our physiotherapy technique is quite simple. Even illiterate parents can assess it easily. Hence, we recommend this easy technique that does not damage the temporalis muscle for the management of temporomandibular joint ankylosis.

  • Robotized MIG welding of large aluminium components for high speed trains is state-of-the-art. The implementation of online laser cameras enables seam tracking and adoptive modification of welding parameters. A constant fill is achieved regardless of the gap tolerances. Friction Stir Welding has been introduced to the market as a reliable and fast joining technology. The advantages of high welding speeds and the elimination of arc light, fumes and liquefaction in the welding spot lead to economical realisation of heavy-duty gantry systems. FSW robots offer a high flexibility with regard to welding of curved parts, and can be equipped with laser cameras for exact joint tracking.

티타늄과 금합금의 레이저 용접부의 인장강도 (TENSILE STRENGTH OF LASER WELDED-TITANIUM AND GOLD ALLOYS)

  • Lasers have given dentistry a new rapid, economic, and accurate technique for metal joining. Although laser welding has been recommended as an accurate technique, there are some limitations with this technique. For example, the two joining surfaces must have a tight-fitting contact, which may be difficult to achieve in some situations. The tensile samples used for this study were made from a custom-made pure titanium and type III gold alloy plates. 27 of 33 specimens were sectioned perpendicular to their long axis with a carborundum disk and water coolant. Six specimens remained and served as the control group. A group of 6 specimens was posed as butt joints in custom parallel positioning device with a feeler gauge at each of three gaps : 0.00, 0.25. and 0.50mm. All specimens were then machined to produce a uniform cross-sectional dimension, none of the specimens was subjected to any subsequent form of heat treatment. Scanning electron microscopy was performed on representative tested specimens at fractured surfaces in both the parent metal and the weld. Vickers hardness was measured at the center of the welds with a micropenetrometer using a force of 300gm for 15 seconds. Measurement was made at approximately $200{\mu}m\;and\;500{\mu}m$ deep from each surface. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe's test was calculated to detect differences between groups. The purpose of this study is to compare the strength and properties of the joint achieved at various butt Joint gaps by the laser welding of type III gold alloy and pure titanium tensile specimens in an argon atmosphere. The results of this study were as follows : 1. When indexing and welding pure titanium, there was no decrease in ultimate tensile strength as compared with the unsectioned alloys for indexing gaps of 0.00 to 0.50mm, although with increasing gap size may come increased distortion (p>0.05). 2. When indexing and welding type III gold alloy, there were significant differences in ultimate tensile strength among groups with weld gaps of 0.00mm, 0.25 and 0.50mm, and the control group. Group with butt contact without weld gap demonstrated a significant higher ultimate tensile strength than groups with weld gaps of 0.25 and 0.50mm (p<0.05). 3. When indexing and welding the different metal combination of type III gold alloy and pure titanium, there were significant differences in ultimate tensile strength between groups with weld gaps of 0.00, 0.25, and 0.50mm. However, the mechanical properties of the welded joint would become too brittle to be acceptable clinically (p<0.05). 4. The presence of large pores in the laser welded joint appears to be the most important factor in controlling the tensile strength of the weld in both pure titanium and type III gold alloy.

단일 휴가형 Geo/Geo/1/K 대기행렬의 바쁜 기간 분석 (Busy Period Analysis of the Geo/Geo/1/K Queue with a Single Vacation)

  • Discrete-time Queueing models are frequently utilized to analyze the performance of computing and communication systems. The length of busy period is one of important performance measures for such systems. In this paper, we consider the busy period of the Geo/Geo/1/K queue with a single vacation. We derive the moments of the length of the busy (idle) period, the number of customers who arrive and enter the system during the busy (idle) period and the number of customers who arrive but are lost due to no vacancies in the system for both early arrival system (EAS) and late arrival system (LAS). In order to do this, recursive equations for the joint probability generating function of the busy period of the Geo/Geo/1/K queue starting with n, 1 ≤ n ≤ K, customers, the number of customers who arrive and enter the system, and arrive but are lost during that busy period are constructed. Using the result of the busy period analysis, we also numerically study differences of various performance measures between EAS and LAS. This numerical study shows that the performance gap between EAS and LAS increases as the system capacity K decrease, and the arrival rate (probability) approaches the service rate (probability). This performance gap also decreases as the vacation rate (probability) decrease, but it does not shrink to zero.

임플란트 지대주나사의 조임회전력이 연결부 안정성에 미치는 영향에 관한 3차원 유한요소해석 연구 (Effect of Tightening Torque on Abutment-Fixture Joint Stability using 3-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis)

  • 연구목적: 임플란트 치료에서 흔히 발생하는 기계적인 문제점을 하나가 지대주나사의 풀림과 파절이다. 일반적으로 나사 연결의 안정성을 위해서는 지대주나사의 조임회전력에 의한 전하중을 나사의 탄성한계까지 증가시킬 필요가 있다. 그러나 저작운동에 의한 기능부하는 전하중이 가해진 지대주나사에 추가적인 인장력을 가하게 되어 나사의 풀림이나 파절의 가능성을 높인다. 이러한 풀림이나 파절을 방지하면서 동시에 최대의 결합 강도를 가지는 조임회전력을 찾는 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구는 지대주나사의 조임회전력이 임플란트-지대주 연결부 안정성에 미치는 영향을 3차원 유한요소 분석을 통하여 확인하고자했다. 연구 재료 및 방법: External butt joint를 가진 임플란트를 기반으로 3차원 유한요소 해석모형을 설계하였다. 조임회전력에 따른 지대주나사의 전하중을 이론치, 실험치 및 해석치를 비교하여 해석모형을 검증하였다. 검증한 해석모형에서 대해 조임회전력을 10 Ncm, 20 Ncm, 30 Ncm, 그리고 40 Ncm로 각각 적용하고 지대주에 30도 경사지게 250 N의 외부하중을 가하여 유산요소 해석을 실시하였다. 그 결과를 통해 지대주나사의 최대 등가응력을 계산하고 고정체와 지대주 연결부의 응력분포 및 이개거리(gap distance)를 산출하였다. 결과 및 결론: 본 연구조건 하에서 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 전하중은 조임회전력이 클수록 증가하였다. 2. 조임회전력 적용 후 최대 등가응력은 지대주나사 경부에서 발생하였으며, 나사산 체결부에서는 주로 경부쪽 네 개의 나사산에 응력이 집중되었다. 3. 외부하중을 가했을 때에도 조임회전력을 적용했을 때와 동일하게 최대 등가응력은 주로 지대주나사 경부에서 발생하였으나, 10 Ncm의 조임회전력을 적용한 경우에서는 지대주나사 두부밑면에서 발생하였다. 4. 외부하중을 가했을 때 10 Ncm와 20 Ncm의 조임회전력을 적용한 경우에서는 연결부 이개(joint opening) 현상이 관찰 되었다. 5. 조임회전력이 40 Ncm인 경우에는 경사하중에 의해 지대주나사의 경부에 발생하는 최대등가응력이 나사의 소재인 티타늄 합금의 허용응력을 초과하였다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때, 조임회전력은 고정체와 지대주 연결부의 안정성에 영향을 미치는 것이 확인되었다. 임플란트 지대주나사는 임상에서 발생하는 기능 하중을 고려하여 고정체와 지대주 연결의 안정성을 유지할 수 있는 적정 조임회전력의 크기가 제안되어야 한다.

  • This research was conducted as a fundamental study to apply tailored blank welding technique into automotive production process. Specially we tried to apply the TWB technique to exhaust system. The materials used in this work were ferritic 439 stainless steel sheet with a thickness of 1.2mm and 0.8mm. Welding tests were conducted for BOP test and dissimilar thickness (0.8 to 1.2t) cases. Major process parameters were position of focus, travel speed, shielding gas and joint (gap) condition. As a result, there are nothing significant welding characteristic compare with TWB of carbon steel. Stainless steel shows the good weldability and mechanical properties (tensile, hardness and forming strength) also shows high level. Just problem is gap condition. However, also in this case, it shows not only good forming strength but also base metal fracture after tensile test. And to conclude, it is good opportunity to make lightweight design muffler using TB welding technique.

스테인리스강의 Nd:YAG 레이저 겹치기 용접부 피로수명에 미치는 용접변수의 영향 (Effects of Nd:YAG Laser Welding Parameters on Fatigue life of Lap Joint Structure in Stainless Steel)

  • Spot welding which use the main process for side block production of stainless steel railway vehicle is legged behind in laser welding about a quality and productivity. Although the laser welding has many potential advantages such as low heat input and aspect ratio of weld bead, its application to a new structural component still is required many engineering data including mechanical properties such as tensile, fatigue strength, etc on. Therefore, experimental analysis was carried out to understand the fatigue phenomena of different thickness stainless steel overlap joining panels by Nd:YAG laser welding. The fatigue life curves were obtained through fatigue tests with the various levels of applied load. The fatigue life is related with the parameters such as gap size and penetration depth through experiment. As the results, tensile strength and fatigue life were proportional in heat input level and gap was identified the major factor for fatigue life. Also we could know that deferent a-ferrite content at HAZ depend on welding heat input was important factor to determine a formation of initial crack and total fatigue life cycle.

Deep Image Annotation and Classification by Fusing Multi-Modal Semantic Topics

  • Due to the semantic gap problem across different modalities, automatically retrieval from multimedia information still faces a main challenge. It is desirable to provide an effective joint model to bridge the gap and organize the relationships between them. In this work, we develop a deep image annotation and classification by fusing multi-modal semantic topics (DAC_mmst) model, which has the capacity for finding visual and non-visual topics by jointly modeling the image and loosely related text for deep image annotation while simultaneously learning and predicting the class label. More specifically, DAC_mmst depends on a non-parametric Bayesian model for estimating the best number of visual topics that can perfectly explain the image. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, we collect a real-world dataset to conduct various experiments. The experimental results show our proposed DAC_mmst performs favorably in perplexity, image annotation and classification accuracy, comparing to several state-of-the-art methods.
