환경방사능의 감마선 분광분석을 위한 백그라운드 소멸 (Background Reduction for the ${\gamma}$-Ray Spectrometry of Environmental Radioactivity)

  • 본 연구는 감마선 분광분석법을 이용하여 환경시료에 함유되어 있는 천연방사성 핵종인 라듐($^{226}Ra$) 및 라돈($^{222}Rn$)의 직접분석법의 개발을 목표로 수행되었다. 감마선 분광분석법에 의한 라듐 및 라돈의 분석에서는 주변환경조건에 따라서 변화의 폭이 큰 대기중의 라돈 및 딸핵종에 의한 백그라운드 영향을 소멸시키거나 보정해 주어야만 한다. 본 고에서는 측정함 내부로 질소가스를 흘려주어 측정함 내부를 질소가스 분위기로 바꾸어 줌으로서 대기중의 라돈 및 딸핵종에 의한 불안정한 백그라운드를 소멸시키고자 하였다. 질소가스를 검출기 주위로 흘려주었을 때, 1 MeV 이하의 에너지 영역에 대해서는 80% 그리고 1 MeV 이상에서는 20~50% 정도까지 백그라운드를 감소시킬 수 있었다. 즉, 검출기 주위를 질소분위기로 바꾸어 줌으로서 백그라운드를 소멸, 안정화시킴으로서 검출감도를 약 10배 향상시킬 수 있었다.

A comparative study of different radiometric methodologies for the determination of 226Ra in water

  • An evaluation of various radiometric methods to analyze $^{226}Ra$ in water has been employed on a set of 10 standard solutions of different concentrations in the range of $1-10Bq/L^{-1}$. The analysis was carried out using well-established procedures by means of gamma-ray, alpha-particle and liquid scintillation spectrometry. The feasibility of the various methods has been quantified in terms of relative standard error and percentage error. Correlations between the various methods have been presented and discussed. In general, good agreement was found in the results of various methodologies, which assures the accuracy of the methods and allows for the validation of instrumentation and procedures. Of the different methods adopted here, a combined procedure for the determination of $^{226}Ra$ along with $^{228}Ra$ using Quantulus 1220 ultra-low level background liquid scintillation counting gave the most accurate results.

High sensitivity determination of iridium contents in ultra-basic rocks by INAA with coincidence gamma-ray detection

  • Very low contents (in the range of 10-9 g/g) of Ir in mantle-derived rock samples (komatiites) were non-destructively determined by INAA coupled with coincidence gamma-ray spectrometry using 16 Ge detectors. Aliquots of the same samples were analyzed by NiS fire-assay ICP-MS for Ir and other platinum group elements. Because the INAA procedure used in this study is non-destructive and is almost free from spectral interference in gamma-ray spectrometry, the INAA values of Ir contents obtained in this study can be highly reliable. Iridium values obtained by ICP-MS were consistent with the INAA values, implying that the ICP-MS values of Ir obtained in this study are equally reliable. Under the present experimental conditions, detection limits were estimated to be 1 pg/g, which corresponds to 0.1 pg for a sample mass of 0.1 g. These levels can be even lowered by an order of magnitude, if necessary, which cannot be achieved by ICP-MS carried out in this study.

  • TRIGA Mark II와 III 원자로의 여러가지 가동조건에 있어서 노벽으로 부터의 누설 ${\gamma}$선에 의한 조사선양률을 3"$\times$3"원통형 NaI(T1) 섬광계수기와 400 channel파 고분석장치로 측정하였는데 측정된 spectrum으로부터 조사선양률을 산출하는데는 실제적면에서 복잡하기 짝이 없는 response matrix 방법대신 정도가 좋으면서도 비교적 그 과정이 단순한 Moriuchi의 specturm -조사선양률 환산 이론을 적용하였다. 연구결과에 따르면 노심에서 발생된 누설 ${\gamma}$선의 기본적인 spectrum 형태는 원자로의 열출력이나 차장벽에 의한 강도의 감쇠에 별로 영향을 받지 않고 있으며 원자로 누설${\gamma}$선에 의란 전조사선양률의 공기중에서의 감쇠는 폭 넓은 energy분포에도 불구하고 지수함수적 감쇠를 하고 있음이 판명되있다. 이 전조사선양률은 원자로의 열출력에 대체로 비례하고 있으나 TRIGA Mark III과 같은 가동형노심의 경우는 측정된 spectrum이 매우 다양한바, 그로부터 산출된 전조사선양률의 크기에는 관계없이, spectrum 분해방법을 적용하여 노심에서 발생된 누설 ${\gamma}$선과 원자로가동중 발생되는 여지 ${\gamma}$선의 기여를 판별 해석하는데 성공하였다.

DETERMINATION OF BURNUP AND PU/U RATIO OF PWR SPENT FUELS BY GAMMA-RAY SPECTROMETRY

  • The isotope ratio of $^{134}Cs/^{137}Cs$ in a spent PWR fuel sample was obtained with a newly developed gamma/neutron combined measuring system at KAERI. Burnup and Pu/U ratio of the spent fuel sample were determined by using the measured isotope ratio and the burnup-isotope ratio correlation equations calculated from the ORIGEN-ARP computer code. The results were compared and evaluated with the chemically determined burnup and Pu/U ratio. As a result of the comparative evaluation, the nondestructively determined burnup and Pu/U ratio values showed a good agreement with the chemically obtained results to within a 4.5% and 0.8% difference, respectively.

현장 감마분광분석 참고지 선정을 위한 제주 일부 지역 $^{137}Cs$ 평가 (Assessment of $^{137}Cs$ for Selection of Reference Site of In Situ Gamma Spectrometry in Some Areas of Jeju Island)

  • 현장 감마분광분석의 참고지로서 제주는 일정 수준 이상의 $^{137}Cs$이 존재하며 교란 받지 않은 개활지가 많다는 점에서 의미 있는 지역이다. 본 논문은 제주 지역 내 여러 개활지 중 한라산 국립공원 내에 위치하고 있는 방목지를 선정하였으며, 측정 계수값에 대한 분산분석과 현장 감마분광분석을 통한 방사능 농도로써 해당 지역 $^{137}Cs$의 균일성 및 농도 준위을 평가하였다. 이를 위해 총 3개 지점, 79개 측정점에 대해 각 2000초씩 5% 미만 계수 불확도 수준의 측정이 이루어졌다. 분산분석 결과 2개 지점은 균일하였으며, 나머지 1개 지점은 측정 범위의 조정을 통해서 균일하도록 지정 가능하였다. 현장 감마분광분석으로 산출한 각 지점 지표면의 토양 방사능 농도는 $53.7{\sim}93.2Bq\;kg^{-1}$, $30.5{\sim}61.0Bq\;kg^{-1}$, $48.8{\sim}102Bq\;kg^{-1}$의 분포를 보였다.

  • This study demonstrated the stabilizing role of a cyclodextrin on Keggin $[PW_{12}O_{40}]^{3-}$ via hydrogen bonding complexation unveiled by ESI-MS. The distinctive fragmentation pathways of the $\{PW_{12}\}/{\gamma}$-CD complexes from that of discrete $[PW_{12}O_{40}]^{3-}$ showed that the so-called "weak" non-covalent interactions can effectively change the dissociation chemistry of POM in the gas phase. The influence of different types of solvents and organic additives such as ${\gamma}$-CD on the stability of Keggin $[PW_{12}O_{40}]^{3-}$ was also addressed firstly by ESI-MS.

  • [$^{2}$H$_{2}$] Tranylcypromine hydrochloride (trans-3, 3-dideuterio-2-phenylcyclopropylamine HCL) was synthesized for application to the metabolic studies. Mass fragmentation processes for the tranylcypromine and its two synthetic intermediates .gamma-phenyl-.gamma.-butyrolactone and trans-2-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid were described based upon comparisons between labeled and unlabeled compounds.

Experimental technique for efficiency transfer along different geometries and volumes

  • Efficiency calibration is a fundamental procedure in gamma spectrometric measurement. Experimental technique for efficiency calibration transfer in gamma spectrometer along different geometries and volumes has been developed and validated in this work. The developed technique offers simple and easy procedures to overcome several problems encountered in efficiency calibration of gamma spectrometer such as rate-related correction and different sample volumes. The validation shows that application of the developed technique has a precision of 95%.
