The effects of inflammation on the changes in some blood metabolites and ovarian response to super-ovulation treatment in sheep were investigated. Inflammation was induced artificially with LPS(Lipopoly-saccharide E. coli; 0.2mg/kg). Changes in the levels of NEFA, GOT, ${\gamma}$-GTP and body temperature after LPS injection were observed. Superovulation was carried out about 2 months after LPS injection. The body temperature, the levels of NEFA and GOT increased, and the level of total cholesterol decreased transiently. However, the level of ${\gamma}$-GTP did not change significantly. Superovulation results were not different between LPS injection and control groups. It was indicated that superovulation results did not decrease in the sheep which showed regular estrous cycle even after the induction of inflammation.
When cells are exposed to low doses of a mutagenic or clastogenic agents. they often become less sensitive to the effects of a higher dose administered subsequently. Such adaptive responses were first described in Escherichia coli and mammalian cells to low doses of an alkylating agent. Since most of the studies have been carried out with human lymphocytes, it is urgently necessary to study this effect in different cellular systems. Its relation with inherent cellular radiosensitivity and underlying mechanism also remain to be answered. In this study, adaptive response by 1 cGy of gamma rays was investigated in three human lymphoblastoid cell lines which were derived from ataxia telangiectasia homozygote, ataxia telangiectasia heterozygote, and normal individual. Experiments were carried out by delivering 1 cGy followed by 50 cGy of gamma radiation and chromatid breaks were scored as an endpoint. The results indicate that prior exposure to 1 cGy of gamma rays reduces the number of chromatid breaks induced by subsequent higher dose (50 cGy), The expression of this adaptive response was similar among three cell lines despite of their different radiosensitivity. When 3-aminobenzamide, an inhibitor of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase, was added after 50 cGy, adaptive responses were abolished in all the tested cell lines. Therefore it is suggested that the adaptive response can be observed in human lymphoblastoid cell lines, which was first documented through this study. The expression of adaptive response was similar among the cell lines regardless of their radiosensitivity. The elimination of the adaptive response by 3-aminobenzamide is consistent with the proposal that this adaptive response is the result of the induction of a certain chromosomal repair mechanism.
Although there are many reports on the splenic (systemic) T cell response after Toxoptasma gondii infection, little information is available regarding the local T cell responses of peritoneal exudate cells (PEC) and gut intraepithelial Iymphocytes (IEL) following peroral infection with bradyzoites. Mice were infected with 40 cysts of the 76K strain of T. gondii, and then sacrificed at days 0, 1, 4, 7 and 10 postinfection (PI). The cellular composition and T cell responses of PEC and IEL were analyzed. The total number of PEC and IEL per mouse increased after infection, but the ratio of increase was higher in IEL. Lymphocytes were the major component of both PEC and IEL. The relative percentages of PEC macrophages and neutrophils/eosinophils increased signiflcantly at day 1 and 4 PI, whereas those of IEL did not change significantly. The percentage of PEC NK1.1 and ${\gamma\delta}T$ cells peaked at day 4 PI (p < 0.0001), and CD4 and $CD8{\alpha}T$ cells increased continuously after infection. The percentages of IEL $CD8{\alpha}$ and ${\gamma\delta}T$ cells decreased slightly at first, and then increased. CD4 and NK1.1 T cells of IEL did not change significantly after infection. $IFN-{\gamma}-producing$ PEC NK1.1 T cells increased significantly from day 1 PI, but the other T cell subsets produced $IFN-{\gamma}$ abundantly thereafter. The proportion of IEL $IFN-{\gamma}-producing$$CD8{\alpha}$ and ${\gamma\delta}T$ cells increased significantly after infection, while IEL NK1.1 T cells had similar $IFN-{\gamma}$ production patterns. Taken together, CD4 T cells were the major phenotype and the important $IFN-{\gamma}$ producing T cell subsets in PEC after oral infection with T. gondii whereas $CD8{\alpha}T$ cells had these roles in IEL. These results suggest that PEC and IEL comprise different cell differentials and T cell responses, and according to infection route these factors may contribute to the different cellular immune responses.
Background: Anti-IgE mAb which binds circulating but not receptor-bound IgE has been shown to be effective in treatment for asthma and other allergic diseases. However, the mechanisms by which anti-IgE mAb influences the pathophysiological responses are remained to be illustrated. This study was undertaken to examine the therapeutic efficacy of non-anaphylactogenic anti-mouse IgE mAb using murine models of IgE-induced systemic fatal anaphylaxis. Methods: Active systemic anaphylaxis was induced by either penicillin V(Pen V) or OVA and passive systemic anaphylaxis was induced by either anaphylactogenic anti-mouse IgE or a mixture of anti-chicken gamma globulin (CGG) IgG1 mAb and CGG. The binding of the Fc portion of anti-IgE to CHO-stable cell line expressing mouse Fc ${\gamma}$ RIIb was examined using flow cytometry. Fc fragments of anti-IgE mAb were prepared using papain digestion. The expression of phosphatases in lungs were assessed by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. Results: Anti-IgE mAb prevented IgE- and IgG-induced active and passive systemic fatal reactions. In both types of anaphylaxis, anti-IgE mAb suppressed antigen-specific IgE responses, but not those of IgG. Anti-IgE mAb neither prevented anaphylaxis nor suppressed the IgE response in Fc ${\gamma}$ RIIb-deficient mice. The Fc portion of anti-IgE mAb was bound to murine Fc ${\gamma}$ RIIb gene-transfected CHO cells and inhibited systemic anaphylaxis. Anti-IgE mAb blocked the anaphylaxis-induced downregulation of Fc ${\gamma}$ RIIb-associated phosphatases such as src homology 2 domain-containing inositol 5-phosphatase (SHIP) and phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN). Conclusion: Anti-IgE mAb prevented anaphylaxis by delivering nonspecific inhibitory signals through the inhibitory IgG receptor, Fc ${\gamma}$ RIIb, rather than targeting IgE.
The line shape functions for the Doppler-broadened gamma ray spectrum are considered in the $^{10}B(n,{\alpha}{\gamma})^7Li$ reaction occurring in a surrounding medium where the excited $^7Li$ nucleus is slowed down and stopped before decay. The phenomenological form of the stopping power was used for the broadening effect. Convolution with the detailed response of a germanium detector is taken into consideration for the simplest case of solely electronic stopping. A numerical study for the analysis of $^{10}B$ by thermal neutron capture is conducted by performing a parametric search and fitting the measured spectrum in a least-squares approach. In comparison with the previous numerical approach using the same analysis, the computational speed is increased and reliable information concerning the stopping power of the medium is obtained while estimating the uncertainty. Implementation of the routine analysis of $^{10}B$ is facilitated on a recent version of the gamma ray spectrum analysis package HyperGam.
The aims of this study were investigated the antitumor effects and immunological activities of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) extracted from Proteus vulgaris RH-90 toward sarcoma-180 cells. LPS extracted from Proteus vulgris RH-90 was irradiated with gamma ray for detoxification. The tumor incidence of sarcoma-180 occurs all group which injected with gamma ray irradiated LPS and tumor of sarcoma-180 was necrotized with breeding in the injected group of l0$\mu\textrm{g}$ LPS. The inhibition ratio of tumor growth showed at the highest level of 60.88% when 5$\mu\textrm{g}$ gamma ray irradiated LPS was injected into mice. The prolongation ratio of life showed 20.72% when injected into mice with gamma ray irradiated LPS of 5$\mu\textrm{g}$. In the effect of immunological activity, the number of circurating leucocyte and peritoneal exudate cells were increased significantly in the treatment group than that control group, and dose-dependent response indicated by the increase of weights of immunorgans which revealed the improvement of immunity. The effect of macrophage on phagocytes, there were not found the differences between phagocytic and corrected phagocytic index.
Physical properties of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in Gabsan formation in Jechon area were obtained by both geophysical well log methods and core property measurements, and the similarity and difference shown between the well log and core log responses were analyzed. The physical properties obtained are natural gamma, resistivity and density. From the difference in density response between the well log and core measurement, the need of correction for natural gamma effect on density log was strongly suggested. And fairly good correlation was obtained between well log and core properties, and among natural gamma, resistivity and density by applying natural gamma correction on density log. It is noted that shale in Gabsan formation reveals very high density, even higher than the density of adjacent non-porous limestone.

Ionizing radiation and doxorubicin both produce oxidative damage and double-strand breaks in DNA. Double-strand breaks and oxidative damage are highly toxic and cause cell cycle arrest, provoking DNA repair and apoptosis in cancer cell lines. To investigate the response of normal human cells to agents causing oxidative damage, we monitored alterations in gene expression in F65 normal human fibroblasts. Treatment with ${\gamma}$-irradiation and doxorubicin altered the expression of 23 and 68 known genes, respectively, with no genes in common. Both agents altered the expression of genes involved in cell cycle arrest, and arrested the treated cells in $G_2M$ phase 12 h after treatment. 24 h after ${\gamma}$-irradiation, the percentage of $G_1$ cells increased, whereas after doxorubicin treatment the percentage of $G_2M$ cells remained constant for 24 h. Our results suggest that F65 cells respond differently to ${\gamma}$-irradiation- and doxorubicin-induced DNA damage, probably using entirely different biochemical pathways.

For the preparation of non-infective vaccine against typhoid fever, the authors had carried out an investigation on the possibilities of using $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray irradiation for the inactivation of Salmonella typhi Ty 2. The following results were obtained. 1) Chicks shortly after hatching were higher susceptible than mice to intracerebral injection with S. typhi. 2) In safety test on experimental animal, $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray irradiated vaccines demonstrated no clinical symptom while the phenol treated vaccines revealed several cases of narcosis by intraperitoneal injection in chicks. 3) The rabbit antisera immunized with $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray irradiated and phenol treated vaccine revealed almost same agglutinin titers to each other. 4) In potency test in chicks, there was no significance in the protective capacity between $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray irradiated and phenol treated vaccines.
