  • Thymus magnus is an endemic (Ulleung Island) species in Korea. This plant is used as diaphoretics and carminatives in traditional medicine. In the literature, few scientific assays were realized on this species, such as antibiotic (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteritidis, and S. typhimurium) and antifungal activities. In order to clarify whether essential oil of T. magnus have pharmacological effects, anti-inflammatory, sedative, anti-depressant, analgesic, and sleep-prolonged effects were investigated using animal models. From this study, the following conclusions were attained; 1) Essential oil of T. magnus did not show any acute toxicity on mice when orally administered at the dose of 2-3 g/kg body weight. 2) Essential oil of T. magnus possessed strong anti-inflammatory activity, similar to that of a positive control prednisolone. 3) Essential oil of T. magnus had excellent analgesic activity, comparable to that of aspirin. 4) The essential oil of T. magnus possessed strong sleep-prolonged effect on pentobarbital induced-sleep test in mice model. 5) In the hot plate test, the essential oil of T. magnus had moderate effect. 6) And the essential oil of T. magnus had no significant effects in forced-swimming test and open-field test.

  • Radiant barrier systems(RES) constructed with low emissivity materials bounded by an open air space can be used to reduce the net radiation transfer between two surfaces. To analyze the heat transfer characteristics of the radiant barrier systems which consist of a single-glass and radiation barriers, a simple theoretical model based on energy balances was suggested. And the model was validated by means of the experimental results. Using a guarded hot box, the temperatures of layers in selected RES and energy use for each cases were measured. The results show that the model well explained the heat transfer characteristics of those RES. Also, the heat transfer coefficient correlations considering natural and forced convection heat transfer ware suggested. It is found that the heat transfer efficiency of a RBS with aluminium surface improved up to 66.6% over that of a single glazing system.

  • Calmodulin, a $Ca^{2+}$-binding protein, has no enzyme activity. It combines with $Ca^{2+}$ and makes variable proteins to an active form. Calmodulin 2 is a ubiquitous protein in plants. To investigate the defense mechanism against various stresses, a clone encoding a calmodulin 2 protein was isolated from a cDNA library prepared from taproot mRNAs of Codonopsis lanceolata. The cDNA, designated CICAM2, is 719 nucleotides long and has an open reading frame of 450 bp with a deduced amino acid sequence of 149 residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of CICAM2 showed a high similarity with calmodulins of P. x hybrida (P27163) 97%, N. tabacum (BAB61908) 97%, S. tuberosum (AAA74405) 96%, Z. mays (CAA74307) 92%, C. richardii (AF510075) 93%, M. truncatula (AAM81203) 91%, and G. max (P62163) 91%. The transcriptional expression of the CICAM2 gene, was gradually increased by the CaCl$_2$ treatment. Whereas its expression And it was gradually decreased in the cold stress treatment.ent.

  • Male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to the toluene at 3,000${\pm}$200ppm via inhalation for two hours in the single inhalation group and three weeks by two hours per day, six da ys per week in the repeated inhalation group. The blood toluene concentration in the repeated inhalation group was significantly lower than that in the single inhalation group after 210 and 240 minutes of exposure. The peak concentration of blood toluene was 58.13${\pm}$4.63${\mu}$g/ml in the single inhalation group and 54.24${\pm}$6.87mcg/ml in the repeated at the end of 120 minutes of the exposure. The behavioral change of rats for the initial 30 minutes of the toluene inhalation showed mildly increased movement and excitement but remained calm and inhibitory behaviors after that period; more inhibitory behaviors in the single inhalation group compared with the repeated inhalation group. In open-field test, after the termination of the toluene inhalation, no difference had been statistically observed between the toluene inhalation group and the control group in ambulation, rearing, preening and grooming.

  • Soybeans were fermented with Monascus sp. to select strain with highest mevinolin production through solidstate fermentation. Monascus pilosus IFO 480 showed highest yield of 2.2 mg mevinolin per g dry weight without citrinin, toxic fungal secondary metabolite, as byproduct. Nutrient broth used for soybean fermentation with Monascus sp. was composed of 3.4 rice powder, 1.1 peptone, 2.6 glycine, 12.9 glucose, initial pH 6.0 (%, w/v). Mevinolin was present in fermentation substrate largely as hydroxy carboxylate form (open lactone, 91.8-96.8%), which is used as hypocholesterolemic agent. Production of mevinolin continued up to 50 days fermentation time at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was performed to optimize the integrated anaerobic digestion (AD) and microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) for the enhanced hydrogen production. The optimum operational conditions of integrated AD and MECs were obtained using response surface methodology. The optimum substrate concentration and operational pH were 10 g/L and 6.8, respectively. In the confirm test, 1.43 mol $H_2/mol$ hexose was achieved, which was 2.5 times higher than only AD. After 40 to 60 hour at seeding, the volatile fatty acids (VFAs) in reactor of AD were not changed. However the VFAs of reactor of AD-MECs were reduced by 61.3% (acetate: 76.4%, butyrate: 50.0%, lactate: 55.0%).

  • This study explores the perceptions of fashion consumers on entertaining shopping experiences and investigates the factors important to the creation of these experiences. A convenient sample of 100 was used for the exploratory survey. Respondents were asked to complete open-ended questions (e.g., describe a recent store shopping trip that you remember as being pleasurable and entertaining) on a standardized form. A total of 97 questionnaires were completed and used for further analysis. Six entertaining shopping factors were identified: store-related factors were merchandise, service, the store environment, and events; customer-related factors were customer resources and social aspects. Five non-entertaining shopping factors were identified: the store-related factors were merchandise, service, and the store environment factor; customer-related factors included customer resources and social aspects. A survey with a convenient sample of 200 college students was administered to examine the importance of entertaining and non-entertaining factors. The merchandise factor (which includes products assortments and price-related items) were rated as the most important part of the entertaining store-shopping experience, followed by service factors in the store category, and customer resources in the customer category.

  • Endoscopy has become a crucial diagnostic and theraputic procedure in clinical areas. Over the past three years, we have developed a computerized system to record and store clinical data pertaining to endoscopic surgery of laparascopic cholesystectomy, peviscopic endometriosis, and surgical arthroscopy. In this study, we are developed computer system, which is composed of frame grabber, sound board, VCR control board, LAN card and EDMS(endoscopic data management software). Also, computer system has controled over peripheral instruments as a color video printer, video cassette recorder, and endoscopic input/output signals(image and doctor's speech). Also, we are developed one body system of camels control unit including an endoscopic miniature camera and light source. Our system offer unsurpassed image quality in terms of resolution and color fidelity. Digital endoscopic data management system is based on open architecture and a set of widely available industry standards, namely: windows 3.1 as a operating system, TCP/IP as a network protocol and a time sequence based database that handles both an image and drctor's speech synchronized with endoscopic image.

  • Security issue in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a promising research. In 2011, we had accomplished a survey of black hole attacks in MANETs. However network technology is changing with each passing day, a vast number of novel schemes and papers have been proposed and published in recent years. In this paper, we survey the literature on malicious attacks in MANETs published during past 5 years, especially the black hole attack. Black hole attacks are classified into non-cooperative and collaborative black hole attacks. Except black hole attacks, other attacks in MANET are also studied, e.g., wormhole and flooding attacks. In addition, we conceive the open issues and future trends of black hole detection and prevention in MANETs based on the survey results of this paper. We summarize these detection schemes with three systematic comparison tables of non-cooperative black hole, collaborative black hole and other attacks, respectively, for a comprehensive survey of attacks in MANETs.
