  • The Neuron structure in a nervous system consists of inhibitory neurons and excitory neurons. Both neurons are activated by agonistic neurons and inactivated by antagonist neurons. In this paper, we proposed a physiological fuzzy neural network by analyzing the physiological neuron structure in the nervous system. The proposed structure selectively activates the neurons which go through a state of excitement caused by agonistic neurons and also transmit the signal of these neurons to the output layers. The proposed physiological fuzzy neural networks based on the nervous system consists of a input player, and the hidden layer which classifies features of learning data, and output layer. The proposed fuzzy neural network is applied to recognize bronchial squamous cell carcinoma images and car plate images. The result of the experiments shows that the learning time, the convergence, and the recognition rate of the proposed physiological fuzzy neural networks outperform the conventional neural networks.

  • We investigatea new fuzzy-neural networks-Hybrid Fuzzy set based polynomial Neural Networks (HFSPNN). These networks consist of genetically optimized multi-layer with two kinds of heterogeneous neurons thatare fuzzy set based polynomial neurons (FSPNs) and polynomial neurons (PNs). We have developed a comprehensive design methodology to determine the optimal structure of networks dynamically. The augmented genetically optimized HFSPNN (namely gHFSPNN) results in a structurally optimized structure and comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in the conventional HFPNN. The GA-based design procedure being applied at each layer of gHFSPNN leads to the selection leads to the selection of preferred nodes (FSPNs or PNs) available within the HFSPNN. In the sequel, the structural optimization is realized via GAs, whereas the ensuing detailed parametric optimization is carried out in the setting of a standard least square method-based learning. The performance of the gHFSPNN is quantified through experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks synthetic and experimental data already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling.

  • This paper is concerned with a Logic-based Fuzzy Neural Networks (LFNN) with the aid of fuzzy granulation. As the underlying design tool guiding the development of the proposed LFNN, we concentrate on the context-based fuzzy clustering which builds information granules in the form of linguistic contexts as well as OR fuzzy neuron which is logic-driven processing unit realizing the composition operations of T-norm and S-norm. The design process comprises several main phases such as (a) defining context fuzzy sets in the output space, (b) completing context-based fuzzy clustering in each context, (c) aggregating OR fuzzy neuron into linguistic models, and (c) optimizing connections linking information granules and fuzzy neurons in the input and output spaces. The experimental examples are tested through two-dimensional nonlinear function. The obtained results reveal that the proposed model yields better performance in comparison with conventional linguistic model and other approaches.

  • In this study, a neuro-fuzzy controller which has the characteristic of fuzzy control and artificial neural network is designed. A fuzzy rule to be applied is automatically selected by the allocated neurons. The neurons correspond to fuzzy rules are created by an expert. To adapt the more precise model is implemented by error back-propagation learning algorithm to adjust the link-weight of fuzzy membership function in the neuro-fuzzy controller. The more classified fuzzy rule is used to include the property of dual mode method. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm designed above, an operating characteristic of a DC servo motor with variable load is investigated.

  • As the number of input and fuzzy set of a fuzzy system increase, the size of the rule base increases exponentially and becomes unmanageable (curse of dimensionality). In this paper, tree architectures of fuzzy controller (TAFC) is proposed to overcome the curse of dimensionality problem occurring in the design of fuzzy controller. TAFC is constructed with the aid of AND and OR fuzzy neurons. TAFC can guarantee reduced size of rule base with reasonable performance. For the development of TAFC, genetic algorithm constructs the binary tree structure by optimally selecting the nodes and leaves, and then random signal-based learning further refines the binary connections (two-step optimization). An inverted pendulum system is considered to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulation.

  • In this paper, we introduce an design of fuzzy relation-based fuzzy neural networks with multi-output. Fuzzy relation-based fuzzy neural networks comprise the network structure generated by dividing the entire input space. The premise part of the fuzzy rules of the network reflects the relation of the division space for the entire input space and the consequent part of the fuzzy rules expresses three types of polynomial functions such as constant, linear, and modified quadratic. For the multi-output structure the neurons in the output layer were connected with connection weights. The learning of fuzzy neural networks is realized by adjusting connections of the neurons both in the consequent part of the fuzzy rules and in the output layer, and it follows a back-propagation algorithm. In addition, in order to optimize the network, the parameters of the network such as apexes of membership functions, learning rate and momentum coefficient are automatically optimized by using real-coded genetic algorithm. Two examples are included to evaluate the performance of the proposed network.

  • We propose a new category of hybrid multi-layer neural networks with hetero nodes such as Fuzzy Set based Polynomial Neurons (FSPNs) and Polynomial Neurons (PNs). These networks are based on a genetically optimized multi-layer perceptron. We develop a comprehensive design methodology involving mechanisms of genetic optimization and genetic algorithms, in particular. The augmented genetically optimized HFPNN (namely gHFPNN) results in a structurally optimized structure and comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in the conventional HFPNN. The GA-based design procedure being applied at each layer of HFPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes (FPNs or PNs) available within the HFPNN. In the sequel, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. First, the structural optimization is realized via GAs whereas the ensuing detailed parametric optimization is carried out in the setting of a standard least square method-based learning. The performance of the gHFPNNs quantified through experimentation where we use a number of modeling benchmarks-synthetic and experimental data already experimented with in fuzzy or neurofuzzy modeling.
