  • Web services instances can be classified into two categories, namely trusted and untrusted from users. A web service with high throughput (TP) and low response time (RT) instance values is a trusted web service. Web services are not trustworthy due to the mismatch in the guaranteed instance values and the actual values achieved by users. To perform web services selection from users' attained TP and RT values, we need to verify the correct prediction of trusted and untrusted instances from invoked web services. This accurate prediction of web services instances is used to perform the selection of web services. We propose to construct fuzzy rules to label web services instances correctly. This paper presents web services selection using a well-known machine learning algorithm, namely REPTree, for the correct prediction of trusted and untrusted instances. Performance comparison of REPTree with five machine learning models is conducted on web services datasets. We have performed experiments on web services datasets using a ten k-fold cross-validation method. To evaluate the performance of the REPTree classifier, we used accuracy metrics (Sensitivity and Specificity). Experimental results showed that web service (WS1) gained top selection score with the (47.0588%) trusted instances, and web service (WS2) was selected the least with (25.00%) trusted instances. Evaluation results of the proposed web services selection approach were found as (asymptotic sig. = 0.019), demonstrating the relationship between final selection and recommended trust score of web services.

  • Axial compression capacity (Pu) is a significant yet complex parameter of concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns. This study offers a novel ensemble tool, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) supervised by equilibrium optimization (EO), for accurately predicting this parameter. Moreover, grey wolf optimization (GWO) and Harris hawk optimizer (HHO) are considered as comparative supervisors. The used data is taken from earlier literature provided by finite element analysis. ANFIS is trained by several population sizes of the EO, GWO, and HHO to detect the best configurations. At a glance, the results showed the competency of such ensembles for learning and reproducing the Pu behavior. In details, respective mean absolute errors along with correlation values of 4.1809% and 0.99564, 10.5947% and 0.98006, and 4.8947% and 0.99462 obtained for the EO-ANFIS, GWO-ANFIS, and HHO-ANFIS, respectively, indicated that the proposed EO-ANFIS can analyze and predict the behavior of CFST columns with the highest accuracy. Considering both time and accuracy, the EO provides the most efficient optimization of ANFIS and can be a nice substitute for experimental approaches.

  • Elliptical concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column is widely used in modern structures for both aesthetical appeal and structural performance benefits. The ultimate axial load is a critical factor for designing the elliptical CFST short columns. However, there are complications of geometric and material interactions, which make a difficulty in determining a simple model for predicting the ultimate axial load of elliptical CFST short columns. This study aims to propose an efficient adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model for predicting the ultimate axial load of elliptical CFST short columns. In the proposed method, the ANFIS model is used to establish a relationship between the ultimate axial load and geometric and material properties of elliptical CFST short columns. Accordingly, a total of 188 experimental and simulation datasets of elliptical CFST short columns are used to develop the ANFIS models. The performance of the proposed ANFIS model is compared with that of existing design formulas. The results show that the proposed ANFIS model is more accurate than existing empirical and theoretical formulas. Finally, an explicit formula and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool are developed to apply the proposed ANFIS model for practical use.

  • This study analyzed the relativity between block stream and talus distributions by employing a likelihood ratio approach. Possible distribution sites for each debris slope landform were extracted by applying a spatial integration model, in which we combined fuzzy set model, Bayesian predictive model, and logistic regression model. Moreover, to verify model performance, a success rate curve was prepared by cross-validation. The results showed that elevation, slope, curvature, topographic wetness index, geology, soil drainage, and soil depth were closely related to the debris slope landform sites. In addition, all spatial integration models displayed an accuracy of over 90%. The accuracy of the distribution potential area map of the block stream was highest in the logistic regression model (93.79%). Eventually, the accuracy of the distribution potential area map of the talus was also highest in the logistic regression model (97.02%). We expect that the present results will provide essential data and propose methodologies to improve the performance of efficient and systematic micro-landform studies. Moreover, our research will potentially help to enhance field research and topographic resource management.

  • One of the biggest problems in structural steel calculation is the design of structures using the lowest possible material weight, making this a slow and costly process. To achieve this objective, several optimization methods have been developed and tested. Nevertheless, a method that performs very efficiently when applied to different problems is not yet available. Based on this assumption, this work proposes a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm for geometric and dimensional optimization of space trusses, called Simulated Squirrel Search Algorithm, which consists of an association of the well-established neighborhood shifting algorithm (Simulated Annealing) with a recently developed promising population algorithm (Squirrel Search Algorithm, or SSA). In this study, two models are tried, being respectively, a classical model from the literature (25-bar space truss) and a roof system composed of space trusses. The structures are subjected to resistance and displacement constraints. A penalty function using Fuzzy Logic (FL) is investigated. Comparative analyses are performed between the Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSSA) and other optimization methods present in the literature. The results obtained indicate that the proposed method can be competitive with other heuristics.

  • In order to fully reflect variation characteristics of composite concrete dam health state, the monitoring data is applied to diagnose composite concrete dam health state. Composite concrete dam lesion development to wreckage is a precursor, and its health status can be judged. The monitoring data are generally non-linear and unsteady time series, which contain chaotic information that cannot be characterized. Thus, it could generate huge influence for the construction of monitoring models and the formulation of corresponding health diagnostic indicators. This multi-scale diagnosis process is from point to whole. Chaotic characteristics are often contained in the monitoring data. If chaotic characteristics could be extracted for reflecting concrete dam health state and the corresponding diagnostic indicators will be formulated, the theory and method of diagnosing concrete dam health state can be huge improved. Therefore, the chaotic characteristics of monitoring data are considered. And, the extracting method of the chaotic components is studied from monitoring data based on fuzzy dynamic cross-correlation factor method. Finally, a method is proposed for formulating composite concrete dam health state indicators. This method can effectively distinguish chaotic systems from deterministic systems and reflect the health state of concrete dam in service.

  • This research studies the effect of geotechnical factors on EPB-TBM performance parameters. The modeling was performed using simple and multivariate linear regression methods, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and Sugeno fuzzy logic (SFL) algorithm. In ANN, 80% of the data were randomly allocated to training and 20% to network testing. Meanwhile, in the SFL algorithm, 75% of the data were used for training and 25% for testing. The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained between the observed and estimated values in this model for the thrust force and cutterhead torque was 0.19 and 0.52, respectively. The results showed that the SFL outperformed the other models in predicting the target parameters. In this method, the R2 obtained between observed and predicted values for thrust force and cutterhead torque is 0.73 and 0.63, respectively. The sensitivity analysis results show that the internal friction angle (φ) and standard penetration number (SPT) have the greatest impact on thrust force. Also, earth pressure and overburden thickness have the highest effect on cutterhead torque.

  • In this paper, a design method of the boiler-turbine control system in the coal fired power plant is proposed. We need to control electric output and drum pressure and water level in drum to guarantee stable operation and save energy for generating electricity and decrease air pollution in the boiler-turbine system. This boiler-turbine control system is composed of reference model part and model following part. The multivariable boiler-turbine system is separated into 3 SISO(Single Input Single Output) systems applying the concept of relative gain matrix. Each 3 reference models for separated boiler-turbine system are composed of 1st order nominal plant and hysteresis integral control system and they make good dy¬namic response with no overshoot and fast rising time. Each fuzzy controller to follow as close as possible to the response of each reference model is designed. The robustness and the good tracking property can be achieved using 5150 fuzzy controllers when there are modeling errors, disturbances and parameter pertur¬bations. The effectiveness of the proposed design method is verified through simulations.

  • Online traffic flow modeling is attracting more attention due to intelligent transport systems and technologies. The flow-density relation plays an important role in traffic flow modeling and provides a basic way to illustrate traffic flow behavior under different traffic flow and traffic density conditions. Until now the research effort has focused mainly on the shape of the relation. The time series of the relation has not been identified clearly, even though the time series of the relation reflects the upstream/downstream traffic conditions and should be considered in the traffic flow modeling. In this paper the flow-density relation is analyzed dynamically and interpreted as a states diagram. The dynamic flow-density relation is quantified by applying fuzzy logic. The quantified dynamic flow-density relation builds the basis for online application of a macroscopic traffic flow model. The new approach to online modeling of traffic flow applying the dynamic flow-density relation alleviates parameter calibration problems stemming from the static flow-density relation.

  • The development and application of cultural technologies(CT) are expected to lead to create various service scenarios and business models. Considering the wide range of application and extensibility of CT, it is necessary to design multidimensional evaluation methods for priority of the support of R&D budgets. The method should include the various evaluation criteria such as economic feasibility and user benefit of service made by a cultural technology. Our research addresses priority decision for fosterage of cultural technologies using fuzzy TOPSIS. Seven evaluation attributes are used to compare five specific technologies. Based on the results, service usefulness is the most important factor among the evaluation attributes. Also, technologies of computer graphics and UI/UX have higher priority than the others. We expect our research to help to provide guidelines for selection of promising cultural technologies which foster the culture and contents industry.
