  • In a fuzzy connectionist expert system(FCES), the knowledge base can be constructed of neural logic networks to represent fuzzy rules and their relationship, We call it fuzzy rule inference network. To find out the belief value of a conclusion, the traditional inference strategy in a FCES will back-propagate from a rule term of the conclusion and follow through the entire network sequentially This sequential search strategy is very inefficient. In this paper, to improve the above search strategy, we proposed fuzzy rule inference rule used in a FCES was modified. The proposed adaptive search strategy in fuzzy rule inference network searches the network according to the search priorities.

  • Fuzzy logic ignores some informations in the reasoning process. Neural networks are powerful tools for the pattern processing. However, to model human knowledges, besides pattern processing capability, the logical reasoning capability is equally important. Another new neural network called neural logic network is able to do the logical reasoning. Because the fuzzy logical reasoning, we construct fuzzy inference net-work based on the neural logic network, extending the existing rule-inferencing network. And the traditional propagation rule is modified. For the search strategies to find out the belief value of a conclusion in the fuzzy inference network, we conduct a simulation to evaluate the search cost for searching sequentially and searching by means of priorities.

  • Z. Cao had proposed NFRM(new fuzzy reasoning method) which infers in detail using relation matrix. In spite of the small inference rules, it shows good performance than mamdani's fuzzy inference method. In this paper, we propose Z. Cao's fuzzy inference method with learning ability which is used a gradient descent method in order to improve the performances. It is hard to determine the relation matrix elements by trial and error method. Because this method is needed many hours and effort. Simulation results are applied nonlinear systems show that the proposed inference method using a gradient descent method has good performances.

  • In this paper, we propose a backward reasoning algorithm which can be utilized in the fuzzy Petri-net representation representing fuzzy production rules. The fuzzy Petri-net representation can be used to model a approximate reasoning system and implement a fuzzy inference engine. The proposed algorithm, which uses the proper belief evaluation functions according to fuzzy concepts in antecedentes and consequents of fuzzy production rules, is more closer to human intuition and reasoning than other methods. This algorithm generates the backward reasoning path from the goal to the initial nodes and evaluates the belief value of the goal node using belief evaluation functions.

  • This paper presents a weighted fuzzy backward reasoning algorithm for rule-based systems based on weighted fuzzy Petri nets. The fuzzy production rules in the knowledge base of a rule-based system are modeled by weighted fuzzy Petri nets, where the truth values of the propositions appearing in the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of the rules are represented by fuzzy numbers. Furthermore, the weights of the propositions appearing in the rules are also represented by fuzzy numbers. The proposed weighted fuzzy backward reasoning generates the backward reasoning path from the goal node to the initial nodes and then evaluates the certainty factor of the goal node. The algorithm we proposed can allow the rule-based systems to perform weighted fuzzy backward reasoning in more flexible and human-like manner.

  • This paper describes the result of applying neuro-fuzzy reasoning, which conducts Go term knowledge based on pattern knowledge, to the opening game of Go. We discuss the implementation of neuro-fuzzy reasoning for deciding the best next move to proceed through the opening game. We also let neuro-fuzzy reasoning play against TD($\lambda$) learning to test the performance. The experimental result reveals that even the simple neuro-fuzzy reasoning model can compete against TD($\lambda$) learning and it shows great potential to be applied to the real game of Go.

  • In general, the certainty factors of the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of fuzzy Propositions appearing in the rules are represented by real values between zero and one. If it can allow the certainty factors of the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of fuzzy propositions to be represented by interval-valued fuzzy sets, then it can allow the reasoning of rule-based systems to perform fuzzy reasoning in more flexible manner(15). This paper presents a fuzzy Petri nets and proposes an interval-valued fuzzy reasoning algorithm for rule-based systems based on fuzzy Petri nets. Fuzzy Petri nets model the fuzzy production rules in the knowledge base of a rule-based system, where the certainty factors of the fuzzy Propositions appearing in the furry production rules and the certainty factors of the rules are represented by interval-valued fuzzy sets. The proposed interval-valued fuzzy set reasoning algorithm can allow the rule-based systems to perform fuzzy reasoning in a more flexible manner.

  • Fuzzy logic ignores some information in the reasoning process. Neural network is powerful tools for the pattern processing, but, not appropriate for the logical reasoning. To model human knowledge, besides pattern processing capability, the logical reasoning capability is equally important. Another new neural network called neural logic network is able to do the logical reasoning. Because the fuzzy inference is a fuzzy logical reasoning, we construct fuzzy inference network based on the neural logic network, extending the existing rule-inference network. And the traditional propagation rule is modified. Experiments are performed to compare search costs by sequential searching and searching by priority. The experimental results show that the searching by priority is more efficient than the sequential searching as the size of the fuzzy inference network becomes larder and an the number of searching increases.

  • In this paper, we describe a fuzzy inference approach for detecting and classifying shot transitions in video sequences. Our approach basically extends FAM (Fuzzy Associative Memory) to detect and classify shot transitions, including cuts, fades and dissolves. We consider a set of feature values that characterize differences between two consecutive frames as input fuzzy sets, and the types of shot transitions as output fuzzy sets. The inference system proposed in this paper is mainly composed of a learning phase and an inferring phase. In the learning phase, the system initializes its basic structure by determining fuzzy membership functions and constructs fuzzy rules. In the inferring phase, the system conducts actual inference using the constructed fuzzy rules. In order to verify the performance of the proposed shot transition detection method experiments have been carried out with a video database that includes news, movies, advertisements, documentaries and music videos.
