The purpose of this study is to identify characteristic of Swedish modern furniture design through design works made by 8 prominent Swedish furniture designers during the 20th century. The study was completed through literature reviews and searching for web-sites of Swedish distinguished furniture companies. 8 furniture designers, eg. Erik Gunnar Asprund, Carl Malmsten, Josef Frank, John Kandell, Mats Theselius, Bruno Mathsson, $\AA$ke Axelsson and Yngve Extr$\ddot{o}$m were selected to identify the characteristics of Swedish modern furniture design. The results are as follows: 1) they pursuit simple and functional design beyond time. 2) they pursuit functionalism modified with Swedish traditional craftsmanship. 3) natural wood is considered as the most beloved material for the furniture together with other natural materials such as hemp, leather and cane. 5) easy maintenance and durability of the furniture are considered as important factors to make it last long. 6) ecological concept is fulfilled to meet environmental legislation.

The plastic furniture made of new materials has enriched and broadened our everyday life not only through development of manufacture but also through consumptions since 1960′s. In relation as well to the need of reducing energy consumption and contributing to environment, the weight of plastic materials has raised concerns in recently. It should be pointed out that development of design technology, which would be risky to develop these synthetic materials was the strategic foundation of Kartell of which principal know-how with plastic techniques. Our rapidly changing lifestyle demands a new design that meet recognition of inflection. In conclusion as we are preparing to enter into the 21st Century, we should go forward with hope and do so with dispatch-dazzling all of us with boldness, thinking imaginatively, transform indifference into action, moving things to the next level in furniture industries, asking the "historic background of designing in plastic seat furniture" questions, challenging the very examples of the past in Kartell, Italy. From this study we have found that it would be useful to understand that the development of technological plastic materials for seat furniture has enabled designers to create ore and more sophisticated design in our millennium life.

The interest and expenditure for children is increasing than in the past because the number of nuclear family is growing, the children's space is configured independently in most homes from infancy, therefore, the market of children's furniture is expanding in spite of the reduction in the population of children. There are not many products considering age, gender, and play behavior in children's furniture market in Korea. The bed, desk, chair, and closet for children under 2 years hold a large majority of children's furniture, there are not a lot of preschool children's furniture for the children aged 4 to 7. As the children aged 4 to 7 experience physical, emotional, and cognitive growth at the same time, the space configuration and furniture choice for these children is educationally very important. Therefore, in this study, we present the importance and necessity of playable furniture to promote the physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development of the children aged 4 to 7 among preschool children. We found the concept and basic condition of playable furniture to collect the base data for developing playable furniture and provided the basic data for the development of an ideal playable furniture by comparing and analyzing the cases of 157 items of 14 domestic playable furniture companies and 365 items of 30 overseas in aspect of play functions, forms, materials and colors.

Since early times, paper has been the leading means of expression in human civilization. Along with the development of languages, people have used paper as their major intermediation measures to flourish the culture. At this point of time when studies in latest design are various and abundant, these fixed ideas on paper should be eliminated first for inventive thinking and freedom of expression. Because breaking the established notion helps to diversify the function of paper. We can see furniture made of paper come in useful to our ancestors in their daily life with the development of "Hanjiquot;. Each piece of paper furniture had its own function and beauty depending on processing method. Not only has been used for materials of basic modeling in the process of modern furniture designing, paper has also been used for the main material for the purpose of a new trial. If we try to find out the ways to take diverse characteristics of paper and develop them, while overcoming the defects of the material, paper has great potentiality for many kinds of use in furniture industry.

Recently, shows the possibility of providing such dyed-gathered woods after forming single boar This studyds with using cheap timbers generated by the thinning. It is helpful for master artisans are suffering from finding qualified materials. Traditionally, the master artisan has been used the beautiful grained wood from around roots of old zelkova trees and black persimmon trees. Instead, this study shows that dyed-gathered woods replace the natural grained wood and also produces a furniture made of an aggregate and a plate from walnut trees and ash trees which are a contrast to dyed-gathered woods. Dyed-gathered woods can reproduce the various colors to satisfy people's tastes, and the dignified grains that we can see in the old woods. Besides, dyed-gathered woods can replace rare materials and provide higher reliability of supplies.

This study was carried out to find out some similarities and differences of the ornamental technique and motifs in folk furniture between Denmark and Korea which had quite different background of development of folk furniture as one of a cross-cultural study. Furniture made and used in the 18th and 19th century was investigated in order to eliminate the influence of internationalism in the design area in the 20th century. This study was fulfilled by many study trips all over the districts in Denmark to identify Danish folk furniture as well as literature study. Study trips to folk museums. Insa-dong, Janghanpyung furniture market were done for Korean folk furniture. Characteristics of ornament in Danish folk furniture were as followings; Main materials of the Danish folk furniture were conifers, especially pine tree, as pine was very common and easy to get from their surroundings. The most popular and unique types of decoration in Danish folk furniture was painting. Colors used in painted furniture were very bright and vivid. This might be a reaction to the long and dark winter of Scandinavian countries. Motifs used in Danish folk furniture had been chosen to reflect their surroundings. Flowers, six-angular stars, animals, human figures and Biblical motifs were popular sources of decoration for Danish folk furniture. Characteristics of Korean folk furniture were as followings; Main materials of Korean folk furniture were broad-leaved trees as well as conifers, because of their beautiful wood grain. The Korean ways of decoration were different from Danish ones. The method of painting with bright from Danish ones. The method of painting with bright colors was hardly ever used in Korea, except only in lacquering. The most popular decoration method for Korean folk furniture was revealing the natural wood grain with transparent vegetable oil finish, instead of painting. Metal ornament was unique to Korean folk furniture. therefore a lot of metal ornaments were attached on the furniture. Motifs used in Korean folk furniture were more like symbolic than Danish ones. Korean people tried to express their longings and norms through the motifs, such as longevity, prosperity, good luck, and many sons, etc. Therefore, it was natural for Korean motifs to have special symbolic meanings.

Sick building syndrome symptoms that are experienced by building occupants may be caused by toxic substances such as formaldehyde and VOCs, which are known to be emitted from building materials and wood composite products such as wood-based panel, furniture, engineered flooring and construction adhesive. In Korea, the use of wood composite products for indoor environments has increased over the last decade. Recently, wood composite products have been installed in approximately 95% of newly constructed residential buildings. The use of these products has resulted in problems related to human health, and consequently a realization about the importance of indoor air quality. In addition, consumer demand is increasing for natural materials because conventional building materials and wood composite products are made by adding urea-formaldehyde resin or they contain formaldehyde-based resin. More recently, many efforts have been made to reduce formaldehyde emission from building materials that laid in the indoor environment. Especially, if conventional formaldehyde-based adhesives are replaced with green adhesives for residential spaces, it is possible to reduce most of the emission amounts of formaldehyde in indoor environments. In line with this expectation, many researches are being conducted using natural materials such as tannin and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). This study discussed the affects and possibilities of green adhesives to reduce formaldehyde emission in indoor environments.

Today, furniture design, which is changing and diversified, a movement to search a new formative world while reviving our traditionality is continuously proceeded, that implies a new possibility in our culture. In respect of such diversified materials, Korean traditional paper, Hanji (韓紙), has already been acknowledged with its excellence. Also, Hanji is a material that fully contains aesthetic consciousness of Korean people, accordingly, this research investigated and analyzed mainly with Sarangbang furniture among Joseon antique furniture, in order to study the possibility of Hanji decorated furniture as the objet in our interior space. This research utilized Paper cut technique (剪紙技法) among Hanji Crafts technique of expressive elements of Sarangbang furniture using Hanji, which is to make patterns and attach them by cutting out or engraving colored papers using scissors or graver to the wooden frame (白骨). Through this, this research could investigate production process utilizing Paper cut technique, also, Sarangbang furniture utilizing such Paper cut could be settled down as the objet with functional aspect and aesthetic completion in our interior space. Also, the researcher presents value of our original furniture by suggesting final output and considers that systematic researches should be conducted continuously on furniture henceforth utilizing Paper cut technique.

The purpose of this study is to develop living room storage furniture with multiple functions and for analyzing living room system furniture that can correspond with lifestyles in the living room. Literature survey was used by collecting data on interior design books and magazines. System furniture is very functional depending on the purpose and spaces, and can be modified effectively with the development of design based on the resident's demand. Living room furniture was mostly arranged by two types. One was lower and slimmer in order to use the space effectively, the other totally occupied one side of the living room wall. Furniture combined with multiple functions of lights and electronics can increase the satisfaction and convenience of users. And furniture maximizes storage space and is systemized so that mixture and arrangement are diversified. Flexible and active way furniture that accept various electronic fixtures and performances in the living room. Furniture forms, materials, and colors will be designed for the functions and atmosphere of living rooms. This results will contribute to develop furniture that has additional features such as lighting and electronic appliances hereafter.

The shift to more practical and simpler lifestyle in the modern society is well reflected in people's preference when it comes to living room space and sofa designs. These elements are intentionally crafted to satisfy the customers' personal needs and wants, sense of comfort, aesthetic preference, and function. This study includes an analysis on the development and conceptualization of sofa designs, exterior materials, and colors of the furniture released by Hanssem, Livart, Borneo, Emons, and Jangin Furniture during the first half of 2007. Modern and practical sofas should be essentially designed according to the customers' demand and current trend. Such design principle is necessary to achieve and maintain competitiveness in the globalizing society.
