A Study on Economically-Efficient Binder Combination of 80MPa Ultra High Strength Concrete (경제성을 고려한 80MPa급 초고강도 콘크리트의 결합재 조합에 대한 검토)

  • Silica fume is generally adopted as admixture for Ultra High Strength Concrete (UHSC) owing to its remarkable contribution to the strength and durability but increases significantly the fabrication cost of UHSC. Accordingly, this study investigates the replacement of silica fume by blast furnace slag (BS) and fly ash (FA) in order to lower the fabrication cost of 80MPa-UHSC. To that goal, experiment is conducted on the mix proportions of mortar in terms of its binder combination, water-to-binder ratio (W/B) and unit binder content. Based on the experimental data, a mix design of concrete is derived and its properties are verified. The results reveal that a W/B of 21% and unit binder content of $720kg/m^3$ are appropriate to achieve 80MPa-UHSC using a binder composed of 60% of OPC, 30% of BS and 10% of FA. The properties of the corresponding UHSC are seen to be satisfactory with a slump flow of 715mm and compressive strength of 97MPa at 28days. The application of the binder combination derived in this study is analyzed to reduce the cost by 50% of binder compared to the mix using silica fume while realizing equivalent performance.

The Effect of Compressive Strength and Admixture on Bond Characteristic of High Strength Concrete (압축강도 및 혼화재료가 고강도콘크리트의 부착특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, Assessment of bond property of HSC with the rate of Blust-furnace(0, 12, and 25 percent by weight cement) and Evaluation of the relationship of the compressive strength coefficient (${\beta}$) between compressive strength with 40${\sim}$120MPa were performed. Design and Test of Bond specimens were carried out based on the ASTM C-234. Test results are follows, most specimens showed that the splitting failure in all specimens, except for B-40 series which showed that the pull-out failure. For the B-40 Series, the relation of compressive strength versus bond stress has well converged that of the proposed equation with the variation(${\beta}$=2/3) in UCB/E.E.R.C-83. The crack strength of concrete in splitting was proportioned to the compressive strength of concrete, and was the highest on the contents of blast furnace slag to 12 percent by weight of cement in each series, except for B-60 series. In the relation of admixture replacement rate versus maximum bond stress, The maximum bond stress was the highest in 12 percent by weight of cement according to less than 40MPa, and was the highest in 25 percent by weight of cement according to 80MPa.

Derivation of Optimum GGBFS Replacement with Durability Design Parameters (내구성 설계 변수에 따른 최적 고로슬래그 미분말의 치환율 도출)

  • GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag)-replacement is very effective for improving resistance to chloride attack and this can induce a long service life for RC(Reinforced Concrete) structures exposed to chlorides. In the work, the design parameters such as cover depth, surface chloride content, critical chloride content, and replacement ratio of GGBFS are considered, and optimum replacement ratio of GGBFS are derived with intended service life. The changes of surface chloride content and cover depth show 3.16~3.38 and 3.02~3.34 times of service life variation, which are most influencing parameters. Critical chloride content shows 1.53~1.57 times of service life variation regardless of w/b(Water to Binder) ratios. In the case of surface chloride content $18.0kg/m^3$, the most severe condition, cover depth over 70 mm and GGBFS replacement ratio over 42% are required with concrete containing w/b ratio under 0.42 for 100 years of intended service life. The condition of $13.0kg/m^3$, GGBFS replacement over 35% is required. For reasonable durability design, quantitative exterior condition and critical chloride content should be determined, and the criteria in Domestic Specification is evaluated to be conservative.

Numerical Study of Flow Characteristics in a Solid Particle Incinerator for Various Design Parameters of Injectors (고체 입자 소각로에서 분사기의 설계 인자에 따른 유동 특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • The flow characteristics in a solid particle incinerator are investigated numerically for high burning rate of wastes. The studied incinerator employs both a swirl flow used in the furnace of powerplants and a design concept applied to a rocket combustor. As the first step, the non-reactive flow field is analyzed in the incinerator with primary and secondary injectors through which solid fuel and air are injected. The deflection angle of a primary injector, inclination angle of a secondary injector, and gap between the two types of injectors are selected as design parameters. The swirl number is adopted for evaluating the degree of swirl flow and estimated over wide ranges of three parameters. The swirl number increases with deflection angle, but it is affected little by inclination angle. Recirculation zones are formed near the injectors, and their size affects the swirl number. The swirl number decreases with the zonal size of recirculation. From the numerical results, the design points can be found with strong swirl flow.

Design of Naphtha Cracker Gas Splitter Process in Petlyuk Column (납사열분해 가스분리공정에서의 Petlyuk Column 설계)

  • Light Naphtha is distillated from crude oil unit and separated into the methane, ethylene and propylene by boiling point difference in sequence. This separation is conducted using a series of binary-like columns. This separation method is known that the energy consumed in the reboiler is used to separate the heaviest components and most of this energy is discarded as vapor condensation in the overhead cooler. In this study, the first two columns of the separation process are replaced with the Petlyuk column. A structural design was exercised by the stage computation with ideal tray efficiency in equilibrium condition. Compared with the performance of a conventional system of 3-column model, The design outcome shows that the procedure is simple and efficient because the composition of the liquid component in the column tray was designed to be similar to the equilibrium distillation curve. The performance of the new process indicates that an energy saving of 12.1% is obtained and the cost savings of 44 million won per day based on gross domestic product is reduced under same total number of trays and the initial investment cost is saved.

  • Due to the strengthening of environmental requirements, aging denitrification facilities need to improve their performance. The present study aims to suggest the possibility of improving performance using computational analysis techniques. This involved modifying both the geometric design and the operating conditions, including the flow path shape of the equipment such as the inlet guide vane and the curved diffusing part, and the flow control of the ammonia injection nozzle. The conditions presented in this study were compared with existing operating conditions in terms of the flow uniformity, the NH3/NO molar ratio of the mixed gas flowing into the catalyst layer, and the total pressure drop of the facility. The flow field applied in the computational analysis ranged from the outlet of the economizer in the combustion furnace to the inlet of the air preheater, the full domain of the denitrification facility. The performances were derived by solving the flow fields using ANSYS-Fluent and the injection amount of ammonia was adjusted for each nozzle using Design Xplorer. Compared to the denitrification performances of the equipment currently in operation, the conditions proposed in this study showed an improvement in the flow uniformity and NH3/NO composition ratio by 45.1% and 8.7%, respectively, but the total pressure drop increased by 1.24%.

  • Railway construction in the random vibration natural phenomena, as well as a relatively regular train loads for dynamic loads, such as a usability and safety should be ensured. Vibration due to train loads and seismic vibrations caused by wind compared to the typically very small in size, rather than the safety of the structure affects the usability. Recently in the downtown area, ground and underground facilities, such as a permanent facility that may cause excessive vibration increases, associated with the construction of these transportation facilities on ground vibrations of structures has been increasing concern and complaint. More recently, high-speed train vibration and noise due to furnace is increasing. In order to solve this problem, such as soundproof considering several feet, but by applying the vibration and noise reduction measures insufficient for the study is Free. In this study, track structure, track, and the inside of the building to support the system, the different forms of neurological history and share about the history cheonanahsan high-speed rail, if passed by the bus stop on the train loads of noise, and the history of interior noise and vibration measurement / analysis of measurement results to assess the relative comparison with the relevant provisions were reviewed.   • The vacuum-glazing panel is a panel that keeps two glasses completely sealed in a vacuum condition. It is the high function insulation material of having the wall level minimizing the heat loss by the conduction and convection heat transmission coefficient. The edge sealing is a very important process of vacuum glass on the strength, thickness and air tightness. In this study, by using the hydrogen mixture gas torch, two sheets of glass was sealing in the furnace. The thickness and strength of the glass according to the process parameters is measurement and analysis, and predicting the edge sealing strength of glass by using taguchi method of experiment. We verified the validity of the experiment by checking the error rate through additional experiment.

Effect of magnesium sulphate solution on compressive strength and sorptivity of blended concrete

  • This paper reports on the result of an experimental investigation carried out to study the compressive strength and sorptivity properties of blended cement concrete exposed to 5% and 10% MgSO4 solution using fly ash (FA) and silpozz. Usually in sulphate environment the minimum grade of concrete is M30 and the mix design is done for target mean strength of 39 MPa. Silpozz is manufactured by burning of agro-waste rice husk in designed furnace in between 600° to 700℃ which is one of the main agricultural residues obtained from the outer covering of rice grains during the milling process. There are four mix series taken with control mix. The control mix made 0% replacement of FA and silpozz with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The first mix series made 0% FA and 10-30% replacement of silpozz with OPC. The second mix series made with 10% FA and 10-40% replacement of silpozz with OPC. The third mix series made 20% FA and 10-30% replacement of silpozz with OPC and the fourth mix series made 30% FA and 10-20% silpozz replaced with OPC. The samples (cubes) are prepared and cured in normal water and 5% and 10% MgSO4 solution for 7, 28 and 90 days. The studied parameters are compressive strength and strength deterioration factor (SDF) for 7, 28 and 90 days. The water absorption and sorptivity tests have been done after 28 days of normal water and magnesium sulphate solution curing. The investigation reflects that the blended cement concrete incorporating FA and silpozz showing better resistance against MgSO4 solution when compared to normal water curing (NWC) samples.

Evaluation of Blank Heating Processes by Thermal Stress Analysis (열응력 해석에 의한 블랭크 단조품 가열공정 평가)

  • This study was performed to evaluate a newly proposed heating process of blank, which was used for Crank throw in the diesel engine, and provide design guidelines of heating processes. Non-linear numerical analyses were done using ANSYS program to investigate temperature and thermal stress distributions of blank during heating processes. The heating process consists of two stages; one is a heating stage with 20 hours, and the other is a holding stage with 12 hours, totaling 32-hour heating time. Based on analysis results, it was found that the temperature difference between the center and the surface of blank increased linearly during the heating stage but decreased gradually during the holding stage of heating processes, while max. equivalent stress, $12.5kg/mm^2$, was found at the center of blank after 10-hour heating time. As the guideline of blank heating process, it was recommended to keep the temperature difference between the center and the surface of blank to be within $150^{\circ}C$ when the environment temperature in furnace reaches $650^{\circ}C$ during a heating stage.
