  • Recently many authors [2,3,5,6] proved the existence of zeros of accretive operators and estimated the range of m-accretive operators or compact perturbations of m-accretive operators more sharply. Their results could be obtained from differential equations in Banach spaces or iteration methods or Leray-Schauder degree theory. On the other hand Kirk and Schonberg [9] used the domain invariance theorem of Deimling [3] to prove some general minimum principles for continuous accretive operators. Kirk and Schonberg [10] also obtained the range of m-accretive operators (multi-valued and without any continuity assumption) and the implications of an equivalent boundary conditions. Their fundamental tool of proofs is based on a precise analysis of the orbit of resolvents of m-accretive operator at a specified point in its domain. In this paper we obtain a sufficient condition for m-accretive operators to have a zero. From this we derive Theorem 1 of Kirk and Schonberg [10] and some results of Morales [12, 13] and Torrejon[15]. And we further generalize Theorem 5 of Browder [1] by using Theorem 3 of Kirk and Schonberg [10].

  • "Eumyang-ihamnon(陰陽離合論)", from aspects of the Samjae theory[三才論], presents the unique insight for understanding dynamics of three Eum and three Yang[三陰三陽] throughout human body in fundamental level, defining purpose and essence of three Eum and three Yang motion. Furthermore, it indicates Bunbu(分部) of three Eum and three Yang, utilizing principles of Yukhap(六合), which serves as logical basis of three Eum and three Yang Byeonjeung(辨證). With theoretical meaning and practical values of "Eumyang-ihamnon(陰陽離合論)", this study investigates significance of three Eum and three Yang-Ihap-Motion in terms of the Samjae theory[三才論] and clinical uses of the three Eum and three Yang Bunbu theory[三陰三陽分部論].

  • The roll forming machines currently used in industries require manual change of individual rolls taking 30 to 60 minutes of operation shutdown, This in turn reduces the operational efficiency by considerable margin and has one of the major negative effect on the overall productivity. To improve the operational efficiency of the existing roll forming machine, current manual roll changing process needs automatation to save considerable amount of time. In this study, TRIZ is adopted in the development of new roll forming machine. The Ideal Final Result (IFR) was set up initially and the fundamental causes were examined by Root Cause Analysis. The final proposed concept was drawn from the application of 40 invention principles of TRIZ.

  • To obtain higher power efficiency of Residential Power Generation System(RPG), it is needed to operate system on optimized stoichiometric ratio of fuel and air. In this paper, optimizing stoichiometric ratio of fuel/air is conducted through systematic experiments and modeling. Based on fundamental principles and experimental data, constraints are chosen. Using these stoichiometric ratios as decision variables, maximum power efficiency of system could be found. As a result of research, power efficiency of RPG system is improved.

  • The performance of electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings is affected by electrode type, electronic parameters such as filtering, amplification, signal conversion, data storage; and environmental conditions. However, no single method has been identified for optimal EEG recording quality in all situations. Therefore, we aimed to provide general principles for EEG electrode selection as well as electronic noise reduction, and to present comprehensive information regarding the acquisition of satisfactory EEG signals. The standards provided in this document may be regarded as Korean guidelines for the clinical recording of EEG data. The equipment, types and nomenclature of electrodes, and the details for EEG recording are discussed.

  • As hospitals change continuously and rapidly, the way of growth and change becomes another important factor in the design of a hospital. The hospitals are adapted for the continuous growth and change during their life span. But the hospitals built in 1970's and 80's have been expanded and reconstructed without any plan of growth and change. So, there is required to the architectural planning on the remodeling and modernization strategy of general hospitals. The purpose of this study is to provide the fundamental data for the reasonable design planning and the basic principles of the construction plan in the hospital remodeling. Thus, this study is to investigate and analyze the characteristics of hospital remodeling, the remodeling planning, and the scheduling process in terms of construction. As a result, this study would apply to design guideline for the remodeling of general hospitals.

  • Fluorescent nanoparticles are characterized by their unique properties such as luminescence, optical transparency, and sensitivity to various chemical environments. For example, semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots), which are nanophosphors doped with transition metal or rare earth ions, can be classified as fluorescent nanoparticles. Tuning their optical and physico-chemical properties can be carried out by considering and taking advantage of nanoscale effects. For instance, quantum confinement causes a much higher fluorescence with nanoparticles than with their bulk counterparts. Recently, various types of fluorescent nanoparticles have been synthesized to extend their applications to other fields. In this study, State-of-the-art fluorescent nanoparticles are reviewed with emphasis on their analytical and anti-counterfeiting applications and synthesis processes. Moreover, the fundamental principles behind the exceptional properties of fluorescent nanoparticles are discussed.

  • As the Knowledge Economy grows bigger, studies and practices of knowledge management flourish in almost every organizations. Yet, the studies of fundamental relationships between knowledge and organization have not been sufficiently developed. It is partly because current knowledge management mainly focus on the technical aspects of the theme. This paper tries to find the possible organizing principles and theoretical foundations of knowledge-intensive organizations through the perspective of knowledge market and knowledge community. Based on the differentiation of "knowledge" and "knowing", the author draws several propositions about knowledge creation and knowledge use. Then, the author relates these propositions to the design and implementation of two theoretical models of organizations, i. e. knowledge market and knowledge community. Major claims are: 1) Knowledge use and knowledge creation process are conceptually separable, so that different conceptual models (market & community) need to be applied. 2) Since knowledge use and creation should be integrated, organizations in the Knowledge Economy should be the efficient knowledge market and, at the same time, knowledge community with care and cooperations. 3) The network of independent small KIFs(knowledge-intensive firms) could be considered as the possible organizational model of the future.

  • Packaged food products often undergo retort processing, a thermal processing in a pressurized vessel called a retort, to ensure their microbiological safety or shelf-stability under normal non-refrigerated conditions of storage and distribution. Retort processing is generally aimed to accomplish commercial sterility of packaged foods with acceptable nutritional and sensorial qualities. Fundamental principles on retort processing, such as thermal resistance kinetics of target microorganism, heat penetration theory, and methods for evaluating process sterility and food quality loss, were reviewed. Factors affecting process severity, heat transfer mechanism, and heat penetration efficiency were summarized. General features of retortable packaging formats including metal cans, glass jars, and plastic packages were also briefly reviewed.

  • In the design of super-tall towers, engineers often find the conventional frame systems used in countless buildings in the past decades incapable of providing the required form, performance and constructability demanded by super-tall heights. The strength of the diagrid as a structural system in high-rise towers is the total flexibility it affords the designer as an adaptable, efficient and buildable scheme. Using fundamental engineering principles combined with modern computational tools, designers can take minimum load path forms to create rationalized diagrid geometries to create optimized, highly efficient towers. The use of diagrid frames at SOM has evolved as a structural typology beginning with the large braced frames on the John Hancock Center and continued in modern applications proving to be a powerful system in meeting the demands of supertall buildings.
