Characterizations of Modified Silica Nanoparticles(I)

  • (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) was used as a silylation agent, and modified silica nanoparticles were prepared by solution polymerization. 2.0 g of silica nanoparticles, 150 ml of toluene, and 20 ml of MPTMS were put into a 300 ml flask, and these mixtures were dispersed with ultrasonic vibration for 60 min. 0.2 g of hydroquinone as an inhibitor and 1 to 2 drops of 2,6-dimethylpyridine as a catalyst were added into the mixture. The mixture was then stirred with a magnetic stirrer for 8 hrs. at room temperature. After the reaction, the mixture was centrifuged for 1 hr. at 6000rpm. After precipitation, 150 ml of ethanol was added, and ultrasonic vibration was applied for 30 min. After the ultrasonic vibration, centrifugation was carried out again for 1 hr. at 6000rpm. Organo-modification of silica nanoparticles with a ${\gamma}$-methacryloxypropyl functional group was successfully achieved by solution polymerization in the ethanol solution. The characteristics of the ${\gamma}$-mercaptopropyl modified silica nanoparticles (MPSN) were examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, THERMO VG SCIENTIFIC, MultiLab 2000), a laser scattering system (LSS, TOPCON Co., GLS-1000), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR, JASCO INTERNATIONL CO., FT/IR-4200), scanning electron microscopy (SEM, HITACHI, S-2400), an elemental analysis (EA, Elementar, Vario macro/micro) and a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA, Perkin Elmer, TGA 7, Pyris 1). From the analysis results, the content of the methacryloxypropyl group was 0.98 mmol/g and the conversion rate of acrylamide monomer was 93%. SEM analysis results showed that the organo-modification of ultra-fine particles effectively prevented their agglomeration and improved their dispensability.

Mechanistic Analysis of Pavement Damage and Performance Prediction Based on Finite Element Modeling with Viscoelasticity and Fracture of Mixtures

  • This study aims to explore a purely mechanistic pavement analysis approach where viscoelasticity and fracture of asphalt mixtures are considered to accurately predict deformation and damage behavior of flexible pavements. To do so, the viscoelastic and fracture properties of designated pavement materials are obtained through experiments and a fully mechanistic damage analysis is carried out using a finite element method (FEM). While modeling crack development can be done in various ways, this study uses the cohesive zone approach, which is a well-known fracture mechanics approach to efficiently model crack initiation and propagation. Different pavement configurations and traffic loads are considered based on three main functional classes of roads suggested by FHWA i.e., arterial, collector and local. For each road type, three different material combinations for asphalt concrete (AC) and base layers are considered to study damage behavior of pavement. A concept of the approach is presented and a case study where three different material combinations for AC and base layers are considered is exemplified to investigate progressive damage behavior of pavements when mixture properties and layer configurations were altered. Overall, it can be concluded that mechanistic pavement modeling attempted in this study could differentiate the performance of pavement sections due to varying design inputs. The promising results, although limited yet to be considered a fully practical method, infer that a few mixture tests can be integrated with the finite element modeling of the mixture tests and subsequent structural modeling of pavements to better design mixtures and pavements in a purely mechanistic manner.

  • 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널(PDP)의 격벽(barrier rib)은 일정한 선폭과 높이를 가져 균일한 방전 공간을 제공하고, 인접한 셀 간의 전기적, 광학적 혼선(crosstalk)을 방지하기 위해 PDP의 하부 유리 기판 패널에 들어가는 구조물이다. 본 연구에서는 사진식각(photolithography)법으로 격벽을 형성하는데 필요한 감광성 격벽 페이스트가 제조되었다. 페이스트는 바인더 고분자인 에틸셀룰로오즈를 BC/BCA = 30/70 wt %인 혼합 용매에 15 wt %로 용해한 다음 관능성 단량체로서TPGDA/PETA = 50/50 wt % 혼합물, 광개시제로서 Irgacur 651 및 격벽 분말을 도입한 다음 전체를 균일하게 분산시켜 제조하였다. 감광성 격벽 페이스트의 각 성분, 조성 및 공정을 최적화하여 소성 후 높이 약 $100{\mu}m$ 에 이르는 PDP용 격벽을 고해상도로 사진식각법으로 얻을 수 있었다.

어린보릿가루 첨가 거품형 찜케이크의 재료 혼합비율의 최적화 (Optimization of Ingredient Mixing Ratio for Preparation of Steamed Foam Cake with Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Sproutling Powder)

  • This study was performed to determine the optimum ratio of each ingredient in the steamed foam cake with barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) sproutling powder. The experiment was designed according to the D-optimal design of mixture design, which showed 14 experimental points including 4 replicates for three independent variables (sugar 112${\sim}$139%, barley sproutling powder 1${\sim}$8%, and oil 5${\sim}$25%). The compositional and functional properties of test were measured, and these values were applied to the mathematical models. A canonical form and trace plot showed the influence of each ingredient on the mixture final product. The results of F-test, volume, color values (L, a, b), textural properties (hardness, gumminess, chewiness) and sensory characteristics (softness) decided a linear model, while the sensory characteristics (color, smell, taste, overall acceptance) decided a quadratic model. The volume of steamed foam cake was increased by sugar addition, and a negative effect was exerted by barley sproutling powder and oil. L and a of color values increased but the b value decreased with increasing sugar and oil content, whereas barley sproutling powder tended to decrease all color values. The addition of barley sproutling powder also had a positive effect on the textural properties (hardness, gumminess, chewiness). Sensory characteristics (color, smell, softness, taste, overall acceptance) could suffer counter results with the excessive addition of sugar, barley sproutling powder, and oil. The optimum formulations by numerical and graphical methods were similar: sugar, barley sproutling powder, and oil were 130.4%, 4.0%, and 10.7% by numerical method, compared to 130.4%, 4.0%, and 10.7% by graphical method, respectively.

머신비젼 시스템을 이용(利用)한 스크랩 자동선별(自動選別) 연구(硏究) (Machine Vision Applications in Automated Scrap-separating Research)

  • 본 연구에서는 색도인식이 가능한 버신 비젼시스템을 설계 제작하고, 제작한 시스템을 이용하여 철스크랩에 혼합되어 있는 Cu스크랩을 자동으로 분리하는 시험연구를 행하였다. 머신비젼시스템은 크게 측정부, 이송부 그리고 ejector로 구분되며, CCD카메라, 광원 및 frame grabber로 구성된 측정부에서 이메지 프로쎄싱 알고리즘에 의해 이송되어 오는 스크랩 표면의 색도를 인식하게 된다. 또한 그 인식결과에 따라 I/O interface가 구성된 콘트롤러에 의해 에어노즐을 작동하도록 하여 임의로 지정한 특정 표면색상의 스크랩만을 분리하도록 되어 있다. 본 시스템을 이용하여 철스크랩에 포함된 Cu스크램의 선별실험을 수행한 결과, 스크랩 이송속도가 15 m/min.에서 90%이상의 선별효율을 나타내어, 향후 선별기능의 고속화가 실현될 경우 산업적으로 적용 가능성이 매우 높은 것으로 판단되었다.

벼 부산물을 함유한 생분해성 필름의 기계적 성질 및 분해 특성 (Bio-degradable Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Mulching Films Containing Rice By-product)

  • 작물의 멀칭재배에 활용이 가능한 생분해성 필름의 개발과 이용가능성을 검토하고자 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 천연고분자를 이용한 생분해가 가능한 필름의 제조를 위해 벼 부산물인 왕겨와 쌀겨를 이용하여 생분해성 필름을 제조하였다. 2. 천연고분자를 이용하여 개발된 생분해성 필름의 기계적인 특성은 기존 멀칭필름과 비교해서 신장율은 낮으나 인장강도는 2배 이상 강함을 보였다. 그리고 파열점 비교에서도 멸칭필름은 뚜렷한 파열점이 존재하고 그 이후에는 같은 힘을 주어도 계속 늘어난 반면, 생분해성 필름은 서서히 늘어나며 점차 힘을 증가시켜야 늘어나는 특성을 보였다. 3. 생분해성 필름에 대한 유해성분 용출시험에서 중금속 들이 검출되지 않았고, 국내 친환경 인증 기준이 정하는 생분해성 수지의 함량기준에 충족하였다. 4. 작물을 이용한 토양 분해력 시험에서도 3 개월 이후에 서 대부분 분해됨을 보여 일반 농업 현장에 적용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

노년기 기능장애의 이질적 발달궤적과 예측요인 (The Heterogeneous Trajectories of Functional Disability in Older Adults and Their Predictors)

  • 본 연구는 노년기 기능장애의 평균적인 변화가 아니라 하위집단에 따라 어떻게 다른 변화가 나타나는지 분석하고, 건강 및 사회적 특성의 변화가 기능장애 변화와 어떠한 관련을 갖는지 분석하였다. 분석 자료는 고령화연구패널조사(Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing)의 1차 년도에서 4차 년도까지의 자료를 사용하였다. 기능장애의 이질적 발달궤적을 분석하기 위해 Latent Class Growth Analysis(LCGA)를 사용하였고, 잠재계층에 대한 건강 및 사회적 특성 변화의 영향력을 알아보기 위해 다항로지스틱 회귀분석(Multinomial logistic analysis)을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 우리나라 65세 이상 지역사회 거주노인의 기능장애 변화에서 평균 변화궤적으로 설명될 수 없는 다양한 변화양상이 확인되었다. 전체 노인의 78%가 독립적 기능형으로 나타났고, 17.3%의 노인은 상당한 수준의 기능장애 변화를 경험하였다. 즉 4.4%는 높은 기능장애 지속형에, 7.1%는 급격한 증가형에, 5.5%는 완만한 증가형에, 그리고 4.7%는 중간-감소형에 속하였다. 또한 우울증상이나 인지기능이 악화되는 것과, 사회참여와 친한 사람과의 만남이 감소하는 것이 기능장애 증가를 높이는 주요 위험요인으로 나타났다. 지역사회 거주노인의 기능장애가 개인에 따라 다양한 양상으로 변화한다는 것을 실증적으로 분석한 본 연구 결과에 근거할 때, 노년기 기능장애를 보다 세분화하여 이해하는 것이 필요하며, 각 집단에 따른 특성을 고려한 차별적인 연구와 실천이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

어린 보릿잎을 첨가한 키위잼 재료 혼합비율의 최적화 (Optimization of the Ingredient Mixing Ratio for Preparation of Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) Jam Prepared with added Barley Sproutling Powder)

  • This study was performed to find the optimum ratio of ingredients for the manufacture of kiwifruit jam. The experiment was designed according to the D-optimal design of RSM (response surface methodology), which included 18 experimental points with 4 replicates for three independent variables (sugar $35{\sim}60%$, pectin $0.1{\sim}1.0.%$, kiwifruit paste $0.37{\sim}0.90%$). The compositional and functional properties of the prepared products were measured, and these values were applied to mathematical models. A canonical form and trace plot showed the influence of each variable on the quality attributes of the final product mixture. By use of the F-test, viscosity, color values (L, a, b), and sensory characteristics (color) were expressed by a linear model, while the L color value and select sensory characteristics (smell, taste, overall acceptance) were also expressed by a quadratic model. The optimum formulations by the numerical and graphical methods, were similar, and with the numerical method it presented as: sugar, pectin, and barley sproutling powder at 49.7%, 0.5%, and 0.6%, respectively. The above results demonstrate the feasibility of preparing kiwifruit jam added with barley sproutling powder, and therefore, the commercialization of a kiwifruit jam marketed as a functional food is deemed possible.

A Study on the Characteristics and Surface Modification of the Zeocarbon for Water Treatment

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of application for water treatment using the zeocarbon. The zeocarbon was mixture of zeolite and activated carbon. In general, the application of commercial zeocarbon to water treatment is difficult because of weak strength in water and the high pH value of effluents after water treatment. Therefore, we have modified the surface of zeocarbon. For the surface modification, we used the acid treatment to make surface functional group. As a result of modification, was created functional group on zeocarbon surface and was formed mesopore in zeocarbon. The surface modified zeocarbon was applied to removal of nitrogen. In removal experiments of nitrogen, removal efficiency was very high. And, strength of zeocarbon after water treatment and pH of effluents were stabilized. This indicates that the surface modified zeocarbon was easy to recover and reuse. Consequently, our results were shown the possibility of application for water treatment using the surface modified zeocarbon.

전도성 고분자가 첨가된 생체 모방형 분자 각인 고분자 테르펜 센서 (Biomimetic MIP Terpene Sensors Adding Conductive Polymers)

  • Biomimetic terpene sensors which have high sensitivity and stability have been fabricated using moleculary imprinted polymer (MIP) technology. Since it is impossible to make a resistive type sensor due to the high resistance of MIP, we improved the sensor by adding conductive polymers. We investigated the sensitivity of resistive type sensors with nano particles depending on the amount of conductive polymers. The MIP membrane contained the methacrylic acid as functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross linker, which formed specific cavities originated by the target terpene molecules. The mixture of MIP and the conductive polymer was coated on the patterns of interdigit electrodes on the alumina substrate. The fabricated sensors showed their highest specific sensitivities exposed to 500 ppm target gases : limonene 0.055 at 40% of amount of conductive polymers and geraniol $5.84{\times}10^{-4}$ at 20% of amount of conductive polymers. In conclusion, we found that the terpene sensors are affected by the target molecules, functional monomers and the conductive polymers.
