중년 여성에서 갱년기 증상 정도에 따른 건강기능식품 섭취실태 조사 연구 (Study on Consumption of Health Functional Foods according to Climacteric Symptoms in Middle-aged Women)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze consumption patterns of health functional foods (HFF) according to climacteric symptoms. Subjects were 450 middle-aged women divided into four groups by Kupperman's index. This study collected all information by self-administrated questionnaires. Higher Kupperman's index was associated with higher Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL) (P<0.001) and current smoker ratio (P<0.01) as well as lower monthly income (P<0.05). Exactly 28.4% of subjects showed negative responses to effectiveness of HFF. The average number of HFF intake per person was 2.01. The main reason for consumption of HFF was treatment or prevention of disease (33.6%). The information source for buying HFF was family or relatives (40.0%). The main types of HFF were vitamins (28.2%), omega-3 fatty acid (18.6%) and red ginseng (17.3%). The intake ratio of individual approval type (Cynanchum extract and Angeli extract) was significantly higher in subjects with high Kupperman's index (P<0.001). In conclusion, these results can be used as basic data that reflect middle-aged women's needs for HFF intake according to climacteric symptoms.

  • We study the existence and nonexistence of positive periodic solutions of a non-autonomous functional differential equation with impulses. The equations we study may be of delay, advance or mixed type functional differential equations and the impulses may cause the existence of positive periodic solutions. The methods employed are fixed-point index theorem, Leray-Schauder degree, and upper and lower solutions. The results obtained are new, and some examples are given to illustrate our main results.

Reliability and validity of the patellofemoral disability index as a measure of functional performance and subjective pain in subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome

  • Objective: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a condition that is characterized by patellar discomfort or pain that is aggravated during certain activities such as ascending/descending stairs. The Patellofemoral Disability Index (PDI) was developed to assess the effect of pain on functional activities in individuals with PFPS. The objectives of the current study were to determine the internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and validity of this index. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty-one subjects who had PFPS with a mean age of $28.8{\pm}5.0years$ and a mean body mass index of $25.6{\pm}4.7kg/m^2$ participated in the study. All subjects were concurrently enrolled in a clinical trial for which they were instructed to complete hamstring-resistance exercises for 4 weeks. Over the course of the intervention, they completed both the PDI and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) at baseline after two weeks, and after four weeks. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to assess the criterion validity. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was used to examine the internal consistency. Intraclass correlation coefficients with 95% confidence interval were computed to examine test-retest reliability. Results: Subjects' responses within both the PDI and the ODI yielded Pearson correlation coefficient values that were positive and highly significant (range, 0.73-0.97; p<0.001). There was a high level of internal consistency (Cronbach's ${\alpha}{\geq}0.8$), with the exception of stair climbing (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=0.65$). Intraclass correlation ranged from 0.87 to 0.92, indicating high levels of test-retest reliability. Conclusions: The PDI is a valid, reliable, and feasible method of assessing pain and functional ability in patients with PFPS.

한방병원에 입원한 기능성 소화불량을 동반한 염좌 환자에 대한 한방치료 1례 (A Case of a Sprained Inpatient with Functional Dyspepsia in a Korean Medical Hospital Treated with Korean Medicine Treatments)

  • Objectives: This study reports on the efficacy of using Korean medicine treatments for a functional dyspepsia patient. Methods: A 49-year-old female patient with functional dyspepsia was treated with herbal medicines and acupuncture for 33 days. The treatment effect was evaluated by measurements drawn from the Nepean Dyspepsia Index-Korean version score and Bristol Stool Scale results. Results: Following treatment, the patient showed a decrease in the Nepean Dyspepsia Index-Korean version score and an improvement in the Bristol Stool Scale. Conclusions: Korean medicine treatment improved the condition of a patient with functional dyspepsia. Further clinical research on patients with functional dyspepsia is needed.

HGM을 이용한 용담댐습지의 기능평가 연구 (Functional Assessment of Yongdam Dam-wetland by HGM)

  • 댐 상류지역 및 주변지역에 위치하고 있는 습지는 댐의 수질개선, 동식물의 서식처 확보 등과 같은 생태보전 및 경관 제공 기능을 제공할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 댐이 지니고 있는 습지의 역할을 검토하기 위하여 수문지형학적 방법인 HGM을 이용하여 댐습지의 기능을 평가하였다. 본 연구에서는 우포늪과 보령댐을 기준습지로 선정하여 용담댐의 기능을 평가하였으며, 그 결과 전체적인 기능이 0.6점 이상으로 나타났다. 이는 댐습지와 자연습지를 비교했을 때, 댐습지가 자연습지의 약 60%의 기능을 수행하는 것을 나타낸다. 따라서 댐에 위치하고 있는 습지의 관리와 보전이 잘 이루어진다면 보다 더 효과적으로 기능을 수행할 수 있을 것으로 판단 된다.

지리산국립공원 저서성 대형무척추동물의 섭식기능군 분포 특성과 생물학적 수질평가 (Distribution Characteristics of Functional Feeding Groups of Benthic Macroinvertebrates and Biological Evaluation of Water Quality in Jirisan National Park)

  • The distribution characteristics of functional feeding groups and biological evaluation of water quality with benthic macroinvertebrates were investigated from 2013 to 2014 in the mountain streams of Jirisan National Park. Both quantitative and qualitative collection had been performed six times during study periods in twelve sites located at upstream, midstream and downstream of four valleys, Chilsungol, Baemsagol, Daesunggol and Piagol of freshwater ecosystem in Jirisan National Park. As results, the total collected benthic macroinvertebrates were 3 phyla, 4 classes, 11 orders, 37 families, 107 species and 4,028 individuals. In 2013, 3 phyla, 4 classes, 10 orders, 32 families, 89 species and 1,829 individuals were collected. And in 2014, 3 phyla, 4 classes, 9 orders, 31 families, 80 species and 2,199 individuals were identified. The total dominant species was Ecdyonurus kibumensis, and EPT groups occupied 80.39% of total species number. Biotic indices were also compared to site and to season. The dominant index (DI) was highest at the downstream of Baemsagol in the spring of 2013, and the evenness index (J') was highest at the downstream of Daesunggol in the summer of 2013. Both diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) were highest at the upstream of Baemsagol in the summer of 2014. The correlation between altitude above sea level and functional feeding groups of benthic macroinvertebrates was also researched in this study. As a result, the species number of shredders and predators have significantly increased according to the increase of the altitude of their habitat. On the other hand, individuals of gathering collectors have increased according to the increase of altitude. The biological water quality was evaluated and compared with several methods in this study, and we suggest that ESB and GPI are more appropriate than KSI and BMI to evaluate biological water quality of mountain stream water.

HGM을 이용한 화포천 습지의 기능평가 (Assessment of Hwapo riverine wetland function using Hydrogeomorphic Approach)

  • 습지는 종 다양성이 높고 영양물질이 풍부하며 생산성이 높은 생태계로서 수문학적으로나 생태학적으로 여러 가지 기능을 수행하고 있다. 본 연구는 습지 기능을 평가하는데 이용되는 다양한 평가 방법중 하나인 HGM (Hydrogeomorphic)을 적용하여 화포습지에 대한 기능평가를 실시하였다. HGM방법은 하나의 기준습지를 선정한 후 대상습지와의 비교를 통해 습지의 기능을 지수화하여 평가하는 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 람사르 협약에 등록된 우포늪을 기준습지로 선정하여 화포천 습지의 기능을 평가한 결과 대부분의 기능이 0.6점 이상으로 우포늪과 비교하여 비교적 긍정적인 기능지수의 값을 보여주었다. 이는 화포천 습지가 수문학적, 생지화학적, 식물서식처, 동물서식처 기능을 수행하고 있고 보전 및 관리를 한다면 보다 더 효과적으로 기능을 수행할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

한국형 파킨슨 환자의 역학적 기능수행지수 개발 (Developing an Biomechanical Functional Performance Index for Parkinson's Disease Patients)

  • Objective: The study aimed to develop a functional performance index that evaluates the functional performance of Parkinson's patients, i.e., to integrate biomechanical measurements of walking, balance, muscle strength and tremor, and to use multiple linear regression with stepwise methods to identify the most suitable predictors for the progression of disease. Method: A total of 60 subjects were tested for sub-variables of four factors: walking, balance, isometric strength and hand tremors. Potential independet variables were extracted through correlation analysis of the sub-variables and dependent variables, Hoehn & Yahr scale. And then, a stepwise multiple regression analysis using the potential independent variables was performed to identify predictor of Hoehn & Yahr scale. Results: First, the results of the study showed that physical composition and gait had a relatively more correlated with the progression of the disease, compared to balance and hand tremor. Second, Parkinson's functional performance is characterized by dynamic pattern of walking, such as foot clearance and turning angle (TA) of walking, and a high-explained regression model is completed. Conclusion: The study emphasized the importance of walking variables and body composition in minor pathological features compared to Parkinson's patient's balancing ability and hand tremor. Specifically, it revealed that dynamic walking patterns functionally characterize patients. The results are worth considering when assessing functional performance related to the progression of the disease at the site.

기능적 체중지지훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 보행에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Functional Weight Bearing Exercise on Balance and Gait in Stroke)

  • Purpose : This study investigated to find the therapeutical effects of functional weight bearing exercise on the balance and gait in stroke. Methods : The subjects of this study were 13 hemiplegia was exercised using functional weight support exercise for 5 weeks, all of whom agreed to participate in the study. All subjects were measured to see their balance and gait with a Pro-3 balance system and Gait analysis. In order to assure the statistical significance of the results, we used for SPSS 12.0 for windows. Results : The results of this study were as follows : 1) There were statistically significant difference in medial-lateral stability and overall stability index. 2) There were statistically significant in distance and gait velocity index. Conclusion : According the results of this study, functional weight bearing exercise is effect on the balance and gait for hemiplegia.

이질적 경관에서의 연결성 측정: 리뷰 및 적용 (Measuring Connectivity in Heterogenous Landscapes: a Review and Application)

  • The loss of connectivity and fragmentation of forest landscapes are seriously hindering dispersal of many forest-dwelling species, which may be critical for their viability and conservation by decreasing habitat area and increasing distance among habitats. For understanding their environmental impacts, numerous spatial models exist to measure landscape connectivity. However, general relationships between functional connectivity and landscape structure are lacking, there is a need to develop landscape metrics that more accurately measure landscape connectivity in whole landscape and individual patches. We reviewed functional and structural definition of landscape connectivity, explained their mathematical connotations, and applied representative 13 indices in 3 districts of Seoul having fragmented forest patches with tits, the threshold distance was applied 500m by considering the dispersal of tits. Results of correlation and principal component analysis showed that connectivity indices could be divided by measurement methods whether they contain the area attribute with distance or not. Betweenness centrality(BC), a representative index measuring distance and distribution among patches, appreciated highly stepping stone forest patches, and difference of probability of connectivity(dPC), an index measuring including area information, estimated integrated connectivity of patches. Therefore, for evaluating landscape connectivity, it is need to consider not only general information of a region and species' characteristics but also various measuring methods of landscape connectivity.
