  • The oxyfluorination effects of electrospun carbon nanofibers (OFACFs) were investigated for $CO_2$ storage. Carbon nanofibers were prepared form poly acrylonitrile / N,N-dimethylformamide solution through electrospinning method and heat treatment. Chemical activation of carbon nanofibers were carried out in order to improve the pore structure. And the surface modification of activated carbon nanofibers was conducted by oxyfluorination to improve the $CO_2$ storage on effect of introduced functional groups. The samples were labeled CF (electrospun carbon nanofiber), ACF (activated carbon nanofibers), OFACF-1 ($F_2:O_2$ = 3:7), OFACF-2 ($F_2:O_2$ = 5:5) and OFACF-3 ($F_2:O_2$ = 7:3). The functional group of OFACFs was investigated by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The specific surface area, pore volume and pore size of OFACFs were calculated and pore shape was estimated by the BET equation. Through the adsorption isotherm, the specific surface area and pore volume significantly decreased by oxyfluorination.

  • Intertidal benthic algal communities on the shores of Gujido and Daeyeonpyeongdo islets, Korea, were examined in October 2007. At both sites, 45 seaweeds including 7 green, 6 brown and 32 red algae were identified. The number of species at Gujido(38 species) was 1.5 times higher than at Daeyeonpyeongdo(25 species), but seaweed coverage was very similar with about 20%. Dominant seaweeds in terms of coverage and importance value were Hildenbrandtia sp., Caulacanthus okamurae, Ulva pertusa, and Gelidium amansii at Gujido and U. pertusa, Hildenbrandtia sp., Gelidium divaricatum at Daeyeonpyeongdo. The vertical distribution pattern of the seaweeds was G. divaricatum-U. pertusa, Hildenbrandtia sp.-U. pertusa, Hildenbrandtia sp., Ishige okamurae from upper to lower intertidal zone but seaweed zonations were not observed on the Gujido rocky shore. At both sites, coarsely-branched forms were the dominant functional group in species number and percent cover(among benthic algal species). The rocky shores of the two sites were dominated by crustose coralline and green algae, whose presence generally results in decreased seaweed biodiversity and community stability. Therefore, the shores of the Yeonpyeongdo islets are of considerable environmental concern and should be monitored for seaweed species composition and community structure.

  • The benthic algal community structures of the seaweed biomass, vertical distribution of dominant seaweeds, and species composition were examined on the rocky shores of Ongdo, Jusamdo, and Woejodo Islands, Korea, in August 2006. A total of 68 seaweeds were identified, comprising 5 green, 11 brown, and 52 red algae from the three study sites. The number of species at Ongdo (32 species) was less than that at Jusamdo (45 species) and Woejodo (44 species). Jusamdo exhibited the maximum seaweed biomass (73.99 g dry $wt/m^2$), while the minimum value was found at Woejodo (36.90 g dry $wt/m^2$). On the three islands, coarsely branched forms were the most dominant functional group in terms of species number and biomass among benthic algal species. The dominant species were Gelidium amansii, Chondrus ocellatus, and Chrysymenia wrightii at Ongdo, Sargasum thunbergii, Ulva pertusa, and Sargassum fusiformis at Jusamdo, and U. pertusa, Undaria pinnatifida, and Corallina pilulifera at Woejodo. Perennial seaweeds were abundant at Ongdo (G. amansii and C. ocellatus) and Jusamdo (S. thunbergii and S. fusiformis), whereas the sheet form of U. pertusa was relatively abundant at Woejodo Island.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of integrated psychoeducational program for distress management of newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer. Methods: A quasi-experimental trial was conducted. The participants consisted of 47 female patients with breast cancer assigned to an intervention group (n=25) and control group (n=22). The intervention group participated in integrated psychoeducational program, consisting of individual face-to-face education and telephone-delivered health-coaching sessions. Data were collected at three time points: pre-intervention (T1), post-intervention (T2), and 6-month follow-up (T3). Study instruments were Distress thermometer, Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form 34 and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast. Results: Compared with the control group, breast cancer patients in the intervention group reported lower distress and supportive care needs than the control group. The intervention group reported higher quality of life (QOL) overall and higher emotional well-being than the control group. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the integrated psychoeducational program is an effective intervention for reducing distress and supportive care needs and increasing QOL of newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer. Oncology nurses need to provide psychoeducational intervention to support patients with breast cancer in managing their distress and helping them adjust to their life.

  • Complexation experiment between humic acid and heavy metal cations was conducted to clear information on heavy metal adsorption by soil organic constituent. The absorbance of UV-visible light of humic acid-metal complexes increased with increasing wavelength, and the order of their absorbance was in the order of Zn->Cd->Cu- saturated humic acid. Carboxyl and phenolic OH groups participated in the complex formation between heavy metal cations and functional groups of humic acid, and the amounts complex was in the order of $Cu^{+{+}}$ > $Zn^{+{+}}$ $\geq$ $Cd^{+{+}}$. The stability constants of humic acid-metal complexes increased with increasing pH, and the order of first stability constants was $Zn^{+{+}}$ > $Cd^{+{+}}$ > $Cu^{+{+}}$, and those of second and overall stability constants were $Cu^{+{+}}$ > $Zn^{+{+}}$ > $Cd^{+{+}}$. With increasing pH, the average binding numbers betwen heavy metal cations and functional groups of humic acid increased the order of $Cu^{+{+}}$ > $Zn^{+{+}}$ > $Cd^{+{+}}$. It was postulated that two types of complexations between heavy metal cations and functional groups of humic acid. One was the reactions in which only carboxyl groups participated to form complexes, and the other was those in which both carboxyl and phenolic OH groups simultaneously participated.

  • The molecular assembly of p-iodo-phenyl octadecyl ether (I-POE), p-iodo-phenyl docosyl ether (I-PDE) and a binary mixture of these two molecules on graphite has been studied using a scanning tunneling microscope. Each molecular system self-assembles on the graphite surface to form a stable monolayer with a head-to-tail configuration. For the binary system, the I-POE and I-PDE molecules do not mix on the surface, preferring instead to form isolated monolayer domains. Here, the I-POE molecules are preferentially adsorbed on the graphite surface, due to the effects of alkyl chain length and the functional group on the monolayer structure.

  • Iron availability is limited in the environment and most bacteria have developed a system to acquire iron from host hemoproteins. Heme oxygenase plays an important role by degrading heme group and releasing the essential nutrient iron. The structure of Bacillus subtilis HmoB was determined to 2.0 ${\AA}$ resolution. B. subtilis HmoB contains a typical antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase (ABM) domain that spans from 71 to 146 residues and belongs to the IsdG family heme oxygenases. Comparison of HmoB and IsdG family proteins showed that the C-terminal region of HmoB has similar sequence and structure to IsdG family proteins and contains conserved critical residues for heme degradation. However, HmoB is distinct from other IsdG family proteins in that HmoB is about 60 amino acids longer in the N-terminus and does not form a dimer whereas previously studied IsdG family heme oxygenases form functional homodimers. Interestingly, the structure of monomeric HmoB resembles the dimeric structure of IsdG family proteins. Hence, B. subtilis HmoB is a heme oxygenase with a novel structural feature.

  • To operate the automatic devices of manufacturing process more effectively and to solve the needs of the resource sharing, network technology is applied to the control devices located in common manufacturing zone and operated by connecting them. In this paper, functional standard of the network layers are set as physical and data link layer of IEEE 802.2, 802.4, and VMD application layer and ISO-CIM reference model. Then, they are divided as minimized architecture, designed as group objects which perform group management and service objects which organizes and operates the group. For the stability in this network, this paper measures the variation of data packet length and node number and analyzes the variated value of the waiting time for the network operation. For the method of the analysis, non-exhausted service method are selected, and the arrival rates of the each data packet to the nodes that are assumed to form a Poission distribution. Then, queue model is set as M/G/1, and the analysis equation for waiting time is found. For the evalution of the performance, the length of the data packet varies from 10 bytes to 100 bytes in the operation of the group management network, the variation of the wating time is less than 10 msec. Since the waiting time in this case is less than 10 msec, response time is fast enough. Furthermore, to evaluate the real time processing of the group management network, it shows if the number of nodes is less than 40, and the average arrival time is less than 40 packet/sec, it can perform stable operation even taking the overhead such as software delay time, indicated packet service, and transmissin safety margin.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to compare the psychosocial characteristics among patients with functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID), adults with functional gastrointestinal symptoms, and normal control group and investigate factors related to quality of life (QoL) of FGID patients. Methods : 65 patients diagnosed with FGID were selected. 79 adults were selected as normal control group based on the Rome III diagnostic criteria, and 88 adults who showed functional gastrointestinal symptoms were selected as "FGID positive group". Demographic factors were investigated. Psychosocial factors were evaluated using the Korean-Beck Depression Inventory-II, Korean-Beck Anxiety Inventory, Korean-Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Multi-dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and WHO Quality of Life Assessment Instrument Brief Form. A one-way ANOVA was used to compare differences among groups. Pearson correlation test was used to analyze correlations between QoL and psychosocial factors in patients with FGID. Results : There were group differences in the education level. Depression (F=29.012, p<0.001), anxiety (F=27.954, p<0.001) and Childhood trauma (F=7.748, p<0.001) were significantly higher in FGID patient group than in both FGID-positive and normal control group. Social support (F=5,123, p<0.001), Resilience (F=9.623, p<0.001) and QoL (F=35.991, p<0.001) were significantly lower in the FGID patient group than in others. QoL of FGID patients showed a positive correlation with resilience (r=0.475, p<0.01), and showed a negative correlation with depression (r=-0.641, p<0.01), anxiety (r=-0.641, p<0.01), and childhood trauma (r=-0.278, p<0.05). Conclusions : FGID patients have distinctive psychosocial factors compared to the both FGID-positive and normal control group. Therefore, the active interventions for psychosocial factors are required in the treatment of patients with FGID.
