  • Spectrum sharing in centrally controlled cognitive radio (CR) networks has been widely studied, however, research on channel access for distributively controlled individual cognitive users has not been fully characterized. This paper conducts an analysis of random channel access of cognitive users controlled in a distributed manner in a CR network. Based on the proposed estimation method, each cognitive user can estimate the current channel condition by using its own Markov-chain model and can compute its own blocking probability, collision probability, and forced termination probability. Using the proposed scheme, CR with distributed control (CR-DC), CR devices can make self-controlled decisions based on the status estimations to adaptively control its system parameters to communicate better.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical distributed intrusion detection system, named HNHDIDS(Home Network Hierarchical Distributed Intrusion Detection System), which is not only based on the structure of distributed intrusion detection system, but also fully consider the environment of secure home networks service. The proposed system is hierarchically composed of the one-class support vector machine(support vector data description) and local agents, in which it is designed for optimizing for the environment of secure home networks service. We support our findings with computer experiments and analysis.

  • The CAN is a serial communication protocol for distributed real-time control and automation systems. Data generated from field devices in the distributed control of power plant are classified into three categories: real-time event data, real-time control data, non-real-time data. These data share a CAN medium. If the traffic of the CAN protocol is not efficiently controlled, performance requirements of the power plant system could not be satisfied. This paper proposes a bandwidth allocation algorithm that can be applicable to the CAN protocol. The bandwidth allocation algorithm not only satisfies the performance requirements of the real-time systems in the power plant but also fully utilizes the bandwidth of CAN. The bandwidth allocation algorithm introduced in this paper is validated using the integrated discrete-event/continuous-time simulation model which comprises the CAN network and distributed control system of power plant.

  • Since the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, data analysis is being conducted in various fields. Distributed data processing has already become essential for the fast processing of large amounts of data. However, in the defense sector, simulation used cannot fully utilize the unstructured data which are prevailing at real environments. In this study, we propose a distributed data processing platform that can be applied to battalion level simulation models to provide visualized data for command decisions during training. 500,000 data points of strategic game were analyzed. Considering the winning factors in the data, variance processing was conducted to analyze the data for the top 10% teams. With the increase in the number of nodes, the model becomes scalable.

  • Microturbines system (MTS) are currently being deployed as small scale on-site distributed generators for microgrids and smart grids. In order to fully exploit DG potentialities, advanced integrated controls that include power electronics facilities, communication technologies and advanced modeling are required. Significant expectations are posed on gas microturbines that can be easily installed in large commercial and public buildings. Modeling, control, simulation of microturbine generator based distributed generation system in smart grid application of buildings for both grid-connected and islanding conditions are presented. It also incorporates modeling and simulation of MT with a speed control system of the MT-permanent magnet synchronous generator to keep the speed constant with load variation. Model and simulations are performed using MATLAB, Simulink and SimPowerSystem software package. The model is built from the dynamics of each part with their interconnections. This simplified model is a useful tool for studying the various operational aspects of MT and is also applicable with building cooling, heating and power (BCHP) systems

  • The WiMedia alliance has specified a distributed medium access control (WiMedia MAC) protocol based on ultra wideband (UWB) for high data rate WPANs (HR-WPANs). The merits of WiMedia MAC such as distributed nature and high data rate make it a favorite candidate in HR-WPAN. Although QoS parameters such as the range of service rates are provided to a traffic stream, the WiMedia MAC is not able to use the QoS parameters and to determine or adjust a service rate using the QoS parameters for the traffic stream. In this paper, we propose a fair and adaptive resource allocation method that allocates time slots to isochronous streams according to QoS parameters and the current traffic load condition in a fully distributed manner. Although the traffic load condition changes, each device independently recognizes the changes and calculates fair and maximum allowable service rates for traffic streams. From the numerical and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed method achieves high capacity of traffic streams and fair QoS provisioning under various traffic load condition.

  • This study estimates the nature of the relationship of entrepreneurship and business confidence on youth unemployment in the Philippines over the 2001-2017 period. The paper employed a range of cointegrating regression models, namely, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach, Johansen-Juselius (JJ) and Engle-Granger (EG) cointegration models, dynamic OLS, fully modified OLS, and canonical cointegrating regression (CCR) estimation techniques. The Granger causality based on error correction model (ECM) was also performed to determine the causal link of entrepreneurship and business confidence on youth unemployment. The ARDL bounds testing approach, Johansen-Juselius (JJ) and Engle-Granger (EG) cointegration models confirmed the existence of long-run equilibrium relationship of entrepreneurship and business confidence on youth unemployment. The long-run coefficients from JJ and dynamic OLS show significant long-run and positive relationship of entrepreneurship and business confidence on youth unemployment. While results of the long-run coefficients from fully modified OLS and canonical cointegrating regression (CCR) found that only entrepreneurship has significant and positive relationship with youth unemployment in the long-run. The Granger causality based on error correction model (ECM) estimates show evidence of long-run causal relationship of entrepreneurship and business confidence on youth unemployment. In the short-run, increases in entrepreneurship and business confidence causes youth unemployment to decrease.

  • In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of a Bluetooth baseband module we have developed. The module has a distributed buffer, i.e. FIFO, for data stream. Bus interface of the module is designed on the basis of interface of microprocessor widely used and the external interface is designed to consider chips connected directly. Since the module performs as many hardware efficient tasks as possible, processing load of microprocessor is very small. It can also be controlled either by software or by hardware for flexibility. The fully synthesizable baseband module was fabricated in a $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology occupying $2.79\times2.8{\textrm{mm}^2}$ area. And an FPGA implementation of this module is tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

  • In general, the function of intake structure, whether it be a open channel, a fully wetted tunnel, a sump or a tank, is to supply an evenly distributed flow to a pump station. An even distribution of flow, characterized by strong local flow, can result in formation of surface or submerged vortices, and with certain low values of submergence, may introduce air into pump, causing a reduction of capacity and efficiency, an increase in vibration and additional noise. Unfortunately in order to design the sump station, the reasonable code or the standards weren't presented yet in Korea. Thus, some researchers had often referred the HI code, JSME code or CEN code to design the sump station. This study aims to prescribe the standard of sump design which were matched well the Korean pump station. Thus, the HI code and TSJ code would be interpreted fully to Korean language, the part of interpreted clauses of the western codes would be selected to compose the standard.

  • Modern telecommunication switching systems are SPC (Stored Program Control) machines handling voice, data and other kinds of traffic, in an environment which tends to be fully digital switching and transmission. The throughput of such systems is determined by the real time capacity of its centralized or distributed control processors and by the traffic capacity of the switching network. Designers must verify the traffic and call processing capacity of the switching system and check its performance under traffic load before it is put into service. Verification of traffic and call processing capacity of switching systems is one of the problems treated by teletraffic studies; teletraffic studies are based on stochastic process, queueing theory, simulations and other quantitative methods of decision making. This paper reviews the general methodologies to evaluate the throughput and performance of the digital switching system. TDX-10, which is a fully digital switching system under development in ETRI, is employed to give illustrative examples of the methodologies discussed in this paper.
