  • As the portable camcorder becomes popular, various video stabilization algorithms for de-shaking of camera motion have been developed. In the past, most video stabilization algorithms were based on 2-dimensional camera motion, but recent algorithms show much better performance by considering 3-dimensional camera motion. Among the previous video stabilization algorithms, 3D video stabilization algorithm using content-preserving warps is known as the state-of-the art owing to its superior performance. But, the major demerit of the algorithm is its high computational complexity. So, we present a computationally light full-frame warping algorithm based on ROI (region-of-interest) while providing comparable visual quality to the state-of-the art in terms of ROI. First, a proper ROI with a target depth is chosen for each frame, and full-frame warping based on the selected ROI is applied.

  • This paper proposes a new motion estimation algorithm that employs matching in a variable search area. Instead of uisg a fixed search range for coarse motion estimation, we examine a varying search range, which is determined adaptively by the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the frame difference. The hexagonal matching method is one of the refined methods in image warping. It produces improved image quality, but it requires a large amount of computataions. The proposed adaptive partial matching method reduces computational complexity below about 50% of the hexagonal matching method, while maintaining the image quality comparable. The performance of two motion compensation methods, which combine the affine or bilinear transformation with the proposed motion estimation algorithm, is evaluated based on the following criteria:computtational complexity, number of coding bits, and reconstructed image quality. The quality of reconstructed images by the proposed method is substantially improved relative to the conventional BMA method, and is comparable to the full hexagonal matching method;in addition, computational complexity and the number of coding bits are reduced significantly.

  • A hand-made vehicle with a formula (VF-1) was designed and manufactured with the aim of realizing a lightweight and high-performance vehicle. The driver's body weight and stiffness of the frame were considered. The vehicle was equipped with a one-cylinder Exiv 250 engine with intake manifold potting for realizing weight reduction, high performance, and low cost. The suspension system for the formula was designed through the analyses and tests of vehicle motion and equipment. In a steering system, anti-Ackerman geometry was introduced to increase the transverse force during cornering. A full electric paddle shift system was adopted to decrease the braking distance. For protection against the distortion and warping of the frame, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding technology was used.

  • Recently, most of movies top-ranked in the box office are screening in Stereoscopic 3D, and the world's leading electronics companies such as Samsung and LG are getting the hots for 3DTV sales. However, each person has different binocular disparity and different viewing distance, and thus he or she feels the severe visual fatigue and headaches if he or she is watching 3D content with the same binocular disparity, which is very different from things he or she feels in the real world. To solve this problem, this paper proposes and implement a 3D rendering system that correct the disparity of 3D content by reflecting binocular distance and viewing distance. Then, the computational complexity is analyzed. Optical-flow and Warping algorithms turn out to consume 732 seconds and 5.7 seconds per frame, respectively. Therefore, a dedicated chip-set for both blocks is strongly required for real-time HD 3D display.
