In Korea, man-caused forest fires are known originate primarily in coniferous forests. We have hypothesized that the vulnerability of Pinus densiflora forests is principally a consequence of the ignition characteristics of the species. To assess this hypothesis, we conducted two combustion experiments using fallen leaves with a reference species, Quercus variabilis. In the first experiments, in which a cigarette was employed as a primary heat source for the initiation of a forest fire, the Pinus leaves caught fire significantly faster (1'1" at Pinus, 1'31" at Quercus, P < 0.001), and ignition proceeded normally. Quercus leaves, on the other hand, caught fire but did not ignite successfully. In the second set of experiments utilizing different moisture contents and fuel loads, the maximum flame temperature of the Pinus leaves was significantly higher ($421^{\circ}C$ at Pinus, $361^{\circ}C$ at Quercus, P < 0.001) and the combustion persisted for longer than in the Quercus leaves (8'8" at Pinus, 3'38" at Quercus, P < 0.001). The moisture contents of the leaves appeared to be a more important factor in the maximum temperature achieved, whereas the most important factor in burning time was the amount of fuel. Overall, these results support the assumption that Pinus leaves can be ignited even by low-heat sources such as cigarettes. Additionally, once ignited, Pinus leaves burn at a relatively high flame temperature and burn for a prolonged period, thus raising the possibility of frequent fire occurrences and spread into crown fires in forests of P. densiflora.
Technology for energy recovery from waste can reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. So recently, there are several companies using RDF, RPF, WCF instead of using only coal fuel and it's part of the fuel on the increase. In this study, we developed Wood chip fuel $CO_2$ emission factor through fuel analysis. It's moisture content is 23%, received net calorific value is 2,845 kcal/kg, and received basis carbon is 34%. The result of emission factor is $105ton\;CO_2/TJ$, it's 5.9% lower than 2006 IPCC guideline default factor $112ton\;CO_2/TJ$. The gross GHG(Greenhouse gases) emissions of plant A is $178,767ton\;CO_2 eq./yr$, and Net GHG emissions is $40,359ton\;CO_2 eq./yr$. Therefore, the reduction of GHG emissions is $138,408ton\;CO_2/yr$ through using WCF, and I accounts for 77% of all GHG emissions.

Since the liquid phase LPG injection(LPLI) system has an advantage of higher power and lower emission characteristics than the mixer type fuel supply system, many studies and applications have been conducted. However, the heat extraction, due to the evaporation of liquid fuel, causes not only a dropping of LPG fuel but also icing phenomenon that is a frost of moisture in the air around the nozzle tip. Because both lead to a difficulty in the control of accurate air fuel ratio, it can result in poor engine performance and a large amount of HC emissions. The experimental investigation was carried out on the bench test rig in this study. It was found that n-butane, that has a relatively high boiling point($-0.5^{\circ}C$), was a main species of droplet composition and also found that the droplet problem was improved by the use of a large inner to outer bore ratio nozzle whose surface roughness is smooth. The icing phenomena were decreased when the an engine head temperature was increased, although a large amount of icing deposit was still observed in the case of $87^{\circ}C$. Also, it was observed that the icing phenomenon is improved by using anti-icing bushing.

The characterization of aging of the pyrotechnic device is conducted thermally, chemically, and spectroscopically. The device is comprised of two parts: (i) igniter composed of Zr and (ii) pyrotechnic delay composed of ZrNi alloy. The thermally induced chemical reaction is identified through Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA). The peak deconvolution of the themo-chemical data is used to estimate the enthalpy change of each metallic fuel component. Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) are used for chemical species analysis. The decomposition of oxidants by moisture significantly affected the fuel aging, and the formation of oxide film and metal oxide on the fuel surface gave rise to the thermal energy decrease.
Sericite is used as a raw material for ceramics and paints, and recently it is widely used as adsorbents to remove heavy metals in wastewater. A new air filter containing sericite was developed using the principle of which components contained in the sericite react with moisture in the air to release oxygen. We tested whether the newly developed air filter actually improves fuel efficiency when mounted on a diesel vehicle. When the diesel vehicle used in the test was warmed up, the fuel efficiency increased by 10~17% compared to when an existing air filter was installed. However, the effect of the developed air filter on the amount of emissions (HC, CO, NOx) has not been investigated, and further research is required for the diesel vehicle emissions.

Use of heavy fuel fly ash (HFFA) (diesel and cracked fuel) for power generation in Saudi Arabia has generated and accumulated large quantities of HFFA as a byproduct. In this research, HFFA is studied with the emphasis on the utilization of this waste material in concrete blocks and asphalt concrete mixes. Two types of mixes, one with low and other with high cement content, were studied for concrete blocks. Different mixes having varying percentages of HFFA (0% to 25%), as cement/sand replacement or as an additive, were studied. The performance of concrete blocks is evaluated in terms of compressive strength, water absorption, durability and environmental concerns. The results showed that blocks cannot be cast if more than 15% HFFA is used; also there is a marginal reduction in the strength of all the mixes before and after being exposed to the sulfate solution for a period of ten months. HFFA is studied in asphalt concrete mixes in two ways, as an asphalt modifier (3&5%) and as a filler (50%) replacement, the results showed an improvement in stiffness and fatigue life of mixes. However, the stability and indirect tensile strength loss were found to be high as compared to the control mix due to moisture damage, indicating a need of using antistripping agents. On environmental concerns, it was found that most of the concerned elements are within acceptable limits also it is observed that lower concentration of barium is leached out with the higher HFFA concentrations, which indicates that HFFA may work as an adsorbent for this leaching element.

In order to examine the application feasibility of Orimulsion fuel in a commercial boiler using heavy fuel oil, a numerical and experimental research efforts have been made especially to figure out the fundamental combustion characteristics of this fuel in a small-scale boiler. One of the notable combustion features of Orimulsion fuel is the delayed appearance of flame location with the flame shape of rather broad distribution, which is found experimentally and confirmed by numerical calculation. This kind of flame characteristics is considered due to the high moisture content included inherently in the process of Orimulsion manufacture together with micro-explosion by the existence of fine water droplets. In order to investigate the effect on the combustion characteristics of Orimulsion, a series of parametric investigation have been made in terms of important design and operational variables such as injected amount of fuel, types of atomization fluid, and phonemenological radiation model employed in the calculation, etc. The delayed feature of peak flame can be alleviated by the adjustment of the flow rate of injected fuel and the generating features of CO, $SO_2$ and NO gases are also evaluated in the boiler. When the steam injection as atomizing fluid is used, the combustion process is stabilized with the reduced region of high flame temperature. In general, the calculation results are physically acceptable and consistent but some refinements of phenomenological models are necessary for the better resolution of pollutant formation. From the results of this small-scale Orimulsion boiler, it is believed that a number of useful information are obtained with the working computer program for the near future application of Orimulsion fuel to a conventional boiler.

This study investigated the spontaneous combustion behavior of solvent-treated low rank coals. Indonesian lignite (a KBB and SM coal) and sub-bituminous (a Roto coal) were mixed with non-polar 1-methyl naphthalene (1MN) either by mechanical agitation or ultrasonication. The property change associated with 1MN treatment was then analyzed using proximate analysis, calorific value analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and moisture re-adsorption test. Susceptibility to spontaneous combustion was evaluated using crossingpoint temperature (CPT) measurement along with gas analysis by GC. A FT-IR profile showed that oxygen functional groups and C-H bonding became weaker when treated by 1 MN. XPS results also indicated a decrease of the oxygen groups (C-O-, C=O and COO-). Increased hydrophobicity was found in the 1MN treated coals during moisture readsorption test. A CPT of the treated coals was ${\sim}20^{\circ}C$ higher than that of the corresponding raw coals and the ultrasonication was more effective way to enhance the stability against spontaneous combustion than the agitation. In the gas analysis less CO and $CO_2$ were emitted from 1MN treated coals, also indicating inhibition of pyrophoric behavior. The surface functional groups participating in the oxidation reaction seemed to be removed by the ultrasonication more effectively than by the simple mechanical agitation.

Coal is abundantly available compared to other energy sources and is used as a versatile energy resource worldwide. To address the environmental issues stemming from conventional coal utilization, efforts are underway to develop clean coal utilization technologies, with IGCC technology being a notable example. In IGCC plants, coal is subjected to a CMD process where both drying and pulverization are achieved by supplying hot air. However, if the temperature of the supplied hot air is excessively high, it can lead to devolatilization and spontaneous combustion, thereby compromising the stable operation of the CMD process. This study aimed to measure the devolatilization and spontaneous combustion temperatures of different types of bituminous coal, and to explore their correlations with the characteristics of the coals. Six coal types exhibited devolatilization between 350 and 400 ℃, while three coal types showed devolatilization at temperatures exceeding 400 ℃. Spontaneous combustion ℃curred in one coal type below 100 ℃, six coal types between 100 and 150 ℃, and two coal types above 150 ℃. The measured initiation temperatures were compared with the coal characteristics including the oxygen, moisture, Fe2O3, and CaO content, the H/C ratio, and the O/C ratio to establish correlations. Regression analysis was used to calculate the regression coefficients and determination coefficients for each ignition temperature. It was found that 52.44% of the FC/VM data significantly influenced the volatile matter ignition temperature, and 59.10% of the Fe2O3 data significantly affected the spontaneous combustionignition temperature.

This Study is to into fuel using a torrefation reaction to food waste. When the fuel of only food waste alone, fuel value is was performed at a ratio of sewage sludge constant attempts to prevent low. Mixing ratios of food waste and sewage sludge, 10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 5:5. Regardless mixing ratio, it was possible to confirm that decreases the moisture content of 10% or less at a reaction temperature of $240^{\circ}C$ or higher. As the ratio of the reaction temperature and the sewage sludge is high, the fixed carbon content is increased. It was measured at up to 36%(mixing ratios6:4, reaction temperature $270^{\circ}C$) from the initial 1.1%. From the reaction temperature $240^{\circ}C$ satisfied with 3000Kcal/Kg or more is a SRF criteria shows the calorific value. It was possible to obtain a heating value that is increased from the raw sample approximately sextuple. As reaction temperature is heightened, Van krevelen Diagram moved to the range of Lignite range. It was possible to obtain high fuel ratio and 5,500Kcal/kg or less of a combustility index as the sewage sludge mixing ratio becomes high. Increase the fixed carbon content, than those food waste alone solid fuel into and improved fuel costs, it is necessary to ensure that the quality of the fuel is improved.
