영역트리를 이용한 효율적인 세밀정도제어 (An Efficient Level-of-detail Control of Meshes by Region Tree)

  • 기존의 LOD 제어방법들은 랜더링속도를 성공적으로 증가시켜왔으나 오버헤드가 크다는 단점을 갖고 있다. 이러한 오버헤드는 각 vertex마다 view-frustum clipping, back-face culling, 스크린 공간 기하학적 오차계산과 같은 view-dependent refinement criteria를 측정하고, 메쉬의 LOD를 바꾸기 위해서 edge collapse/vertex split를 수행하기 때문이다. 제안하는 방법은 메쉬를 여러 개의 region들로 나누고 vertex가 아닌 region에 대해 view-dependent refinement criteria를 측정하므로 오버헤드가 훨씬 작다. 또한 각 region 들의 LOD가 바뀔 때 미리 만들어 둔 LOD 버전들중에서 하나를 선택하기만 하면 되므로, edge collapse/vertex split을 수행하는 오버헤드는 없다. 실험적으로 제안하는 LOD 제어방법은 기존의 방법들보다 작은 메모리를 사용하고 LOD 제어 오버헤드도 적으며, LOD 제어를 하지 않은 경우보다 2배-5배의 랜더링 속도향상을 얻었다.

그래픽스 하드웨어를 이용한 입체 스윕 경계 근사 (Approximating 3D General Sweep Boundary using Graphics Hardware)

  • This paper presents a practical technique for approximating the boundary surface of the volume swept out by three-dimensional objects using the depth-buffer. Objects may change their geometries and orientations while sweeping. The sweep volume is approximated as a union of volume elements, which are just rendered inside appropriate viewing frusta of virtual cameras and mapped into screen viewports with depth-buffer. From the depth of each pixel in the screen space of each rendering, the corresponding point in the original world space can be computed. Appropriately connecting these points yields polygonal faces forming polygonal surface patches approximately covering some portion of the sweep volume. Each view frustum adds one or more surface patches in this way, and these presumably overlapped polygonal surface patches approximately enclose the whole sweep volume. These patches may further be processed to yield non-overlapped polygonal surfaces as an approximation to the boundary of the original 3D sweep volume.

  • Recently, metamaterials attracted much attention because of the potential applications for superlens, cloaking and high precision sensors. We developed several dielectric metamaterials for enhancing antireflection or light trapping capability in solar energy harvesting devices. Colloidal lithography and electrochemical anodization process were employed to fabricate self-assembed nano- and microscale dielectric metamaterials in a simple and cost-effective manner. We improved broadband light absorption in c-Si, a-Si, and organic semiconductor layer by employing polystyrene (PS) islands integrated Si conical-frustum arrays, resonant PS nanosphere arrays, and diffusive alumina nanowire arrays, respectively. We also demonstrated thin metal coated alumina nanowire array which is utilized as an efficient light-to-heat conversion layer of solar steam generating devices. The scalable design and adaptable fabrication route to our light management nanostructures will be promising in applications of solar energy harvesting system. On the other hands, broadband invisible cloaks, which continuously work while elastically deforming, are developed using smart metamaterials made of photonic and elastic crystals. A self-adjustable, nearly lossless, and broadband (10-12GHz) smart meatamaterials have great potentials for applications in antenna system and military stealth technology.

자동차용 벨로우즈의 구조해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Structual Analysis of Bellows for Automotive)

  • The purpose of the study is to perform structual analysis of 9 type bellows for automotive. The bellows joint which was used as a absorber or safety equipment to prevent the deformation or fracture of a structure, has been analyzed by the FEM modeling using axi-symmetric conical frustum element. Using FEM the general behavior of bellows analysis can be investigate easily, as well as the stability of the analysis can be guarantee. The results of finite element structual analysis and actual result gave a good agreement.

  • 본 연구에서는 지형을 Rendering 기법의 대표적인 방법인 Geometry Clipmaps와 ROAM 2.0을 분석하여 Rendering 연산에 소요되는 연산을 CPU가 아닌 GPU에 중점을 두어 보다 빠르고 넓은 가시화 영역을 보장하는 확장된 Geometry Clipmaps 알고리즘을 제안한다. 확장된 알고리즘은 LOD(Level of Detail)을 통한 각 레벨의 Mesh 구성 방법, 레벨간의 연결망 Mesh 구성 방법, VFC(View Frustum Culling)을 사용하여 Rendering을 최적화 할 수 있는 Mesh Block화 방안 그리고 최대 1m 해상도를 갖는 고해상도 영상 Mapping 방안 등을 포함하고 있다.

V.F. 모델을 이용한 주행차량의 전방 계측시스템에 관한 연구 (A study on a Front Measurement System from the Traveling Vehicle Using V.F. Model)

  • 본 논문에서는 3차원 좌표를 얻을 수 있는 카메라 Calibration 알고리듬을 확립하고, View Frustum(V.F.) 모델을 이용하여 도로의 영상을 모델화하였다. 그리고 주행하는 차선 내에 존재하는 선행차량의 위치측정 및 차량까지의 거리를 정확히 인식하기 위해 피칭오차를 보정하며 실시간으로 계측하는 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 기존의 많은 추돌 경보시스템(CWS)들은 도로가 평면이라 가정하여 도로와 차량사이의 기하적인 변화에 따른 오차 특성을 고려하지 않았다. 이를 보완하고자 본 논문에서는 카메라 Calibration 알고리듬을 적용하여 실세계 좌표계와 영상좌표계 사이의 기하해석으로 사영행렬을 추출하였고, V.F. 모델을 이용하여 소실점의 기하적인 해석을 통하여 차량의 피칭변화에 따른 오차특성을 실시간으로 보정하였다. 실험결과 거리의 오차를 2%이하로 줄일 수 있어 피칭변화에 강인함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, we investigate the methodology to calculate the volume of the pyramid and frustum of the pyramid that is found in Gu Jang Sel Hae and San Hak Jeong Ui(The first volume)text. Comparing and analyzing content in Korean and Chinese mathematics education textbooks that uses as a foundation the aforementioned methodology, it is proposed that in future development of mathematics education curriculum the area of solid geometry be taught in greater depth in basic study guides.

  • This research demonstrates a 3D virtual visualization of urban environment and video fusion for effective damage prevention and surveillance system using open standard. We present the visualization and interaction simulation method to increase the situational awareness and optimize the realization of environmental monitoring through the CCTV video and 3D virtual environment. New camera prototype was designed based on the camera frustum view model to project recorded video prospectively onto the virtual 3D environment. The demonstration was developed by the X3D, which is royalty-free open standard and run-time architecture, and it offers abilities to represent, control and share 3D spatial information via the internet browsers.

카메라 의존적 파티클 시스템을 이용한 실시간 빗줄기 렌더링 (View-Dependent Real-time Rain Streaks Rendering)

  • Realistic real-time rain streaks rendering has been treated as a very difficult problem because of various natural phenomena. Also, in creating and managing a large number of particles, a large amount of computer resources had to be used. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a more efficient real-time rain streaks rendering algorithm by generating view-dependent rain particles and expressing a large amount of rain even with a small number. By creating a 'rain space' dependent on the field of view of the camera moving in real time, particles are rendered only in that space. Accordingly, even if a small number of particles are rendered, since the rendering is performed in a limited space, an effect of rendering a very large amount of particles can be obtained. This enables very efficient real-time rendering of rain streaks.

Hydrodynamic characteristics of a fixed semi-submersible platform interacting with incident waves by fully nonlinear method

  • Based on the potential flow theory, a fully nonlinear numerical procedure is developed with boundary element method to analyze the interaction between a fixed semi-submersible platform and incident waves in open water. The incident wave is separated from the scattered wave under fully nonlinear boundary conditions. The mixed Euler-Lagrangian method is used to capture the position of the disturbed wave surface in local coordinate systems. The wave forces exerted on an inverted conical frustum are used to ensure the accuracy of the present method and good agreements with published results are obtained. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the semi-submersible platform interacting with regular waves are analyzed. Pressure distribution with time and space, tension and compression of the platform under wave action are investigated. 3D behaviors of wave run-ups are predicted. Strong nonlinear phenomena such as wave upwelling and wave interference are observed and analyzed.
