  • 토마토과실은 ripening 도중에 연화가 되며 수확후 운반이나 저장중에 물리적인 상처, 부패때문에 연화가 심화되어 많은 손실을 가져온다. 연화란 세포벽의 구조적 붕괴에 기인하며 이중 pectin의 분해와 밀접한 관계가 있다고 한다. Pectin에는 세포내 Ca함량의 대부분이 존재하며 Ca은 세포벽의 구조를 지지하는데 중요한 역할을 한다고 알려져 있다. 따라서 작물재배시 Ca 이온을 효과적으로 사용, 과실내의 Ca함량이 증가된다면 조직의 경도가 향상되어 과실의 저장력 뿐만 아니라 모식물체에서 보다 더 숙성된 과실을 수확, 유통 할수 있다. (중략)

Comparative analyses of susceptibility to chemicals associated with fermentation between Drosophila melanogaster and Drosophila suzukii

  • Drosophila melanogaster Meigen and Drosophila suzukii Matsumura are taxonomically close Drosophila species belonging to the family Drosophilidae and melanogaster group. D. melanogaster is thought to be evolutionarily adapted to overripe, decaying, and fermented fruits, in which large amounts of chemicals such as ethanol, acetic acid, and 2-phenylethanol are produced, whereas, D. suzukii is attracted to fresh ripening fruit. Considering the distinct habitats of the two flies, D. suzukii is hypothesized to exhibit higher susceptibility to these chemicals than D. melanogaster. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the survival rate of the flies at various concentrations of three chemicals (2-phenlyethanol, acetic acid, and ethanol) and calculated the lethal concentration (LC) values to compare the tolerance and susceptibility of D. melanogaster and D. suzukii to the chemicals. Our results revealed that D. melanogaster exhibited higher tolerance than D. suzukii to all chemicals, supporting the hypothesis of different evolutionary adaptations to distinct habitats of the two flies.

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간으로 web-cam을 이용해, 후숙과일의 불량 여부를 판단, 분류하고 불량이 없는 후숙과일의 이미지 분석을 통하여 숙성도 예측하는 시스템을 소개한다. 실시간 다중 객체인식에 탁월한 yolo모델을 활용해, 과일의 불량여부 판단 후 분류하고, 이미지를 획득한 뒤, k-mean clustering 알고리즘을 이용해, 이미지를 segmentation 한다. segmentation된 이미지에 grabcut 알고리즘의 foreground-extraction을 사용해 배경 제거를 한 뒤, cluster의 중심색상값 색상값의 면적%, 전체 면적을 이용해 현재 숙성도를 계산하고 이를 이용해 과일의 후숙 시간 데이터와 비교, 숙성이 완료될 시간을 예측한다. 기존 수작업으로 이루어지고 있는 과일의 분류작업의 인력 감소 및 정확성을 높일 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안한다.

Effect of the Gibberellin Treatment on Enlargement and Mature Promotion in 'Niitaka' Pear (Pyrus pyryfolia L.) (지베렐린이 '신고'배의 비대와 성숙촉진에 미치는 영향)

  • The object of this study was to evaluate the effect of the gibberellin treatment on fruit enlargement and ripening promotion in 'Niitaka' pear(Pyms pynfolia). Fruit weight was similar between $GA_{4+7}$ treatments and the gibberellin-paste control, but fairly increased of fruit weight compared to non-treatment Most effective time for $GA_{4+7}$ treatment to increase diameter and length was on 35 and 40 days after full bloom, respectively. Shape index was similar in all treatments. Fruit enlargement at the period of early growth, $GA_{4+7}$ 2.4% treatment was remarkably effective than $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ 2.7% treatment or non-treatment However at the period of maturity, $GA_{4+7}$ 2.4% treatment and $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ 2.7% treatment showed little differences in fruit enlargement and coloring. In maturing promotion effect, young fruit treated with $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ showed similar fruit coloring to ethephon treatment on 35 days after full bloom, and both of those treatments promoted fruit coloring than non- treatment about 6 days. $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ treatments resulted higher solid content and decreased acidity than non-treatment However, there was no differences in fruit hardness comparing to non-treatment As a result, gibberellin was most effective in fruit enlargement, so as all $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ treatments were more effective on fruit enlargement than ethephon treatment or non-treatment Specifically, when $GA_{3}+GA_{4+7}$ was treated 35days after full bloom of flower, the diameter, the length and the shape of fruit index were best, and fruit coloring was good as well.

Comparison of Fruit Characteristics of 'Fuji'/M.26 in Response to Ethephon Treatment and Combined Treatment of Ethephon and CaCl2 During Maturing Stages (Ethephon 단용처리와 Ethephon 및 염화칼슘 혼합처리에 따른 사과 'Fuji'/M.26의 성숙기 과실특성 비교)

  • The harvest time of the late-ripening 'Fuji' apple (Malus × domestica) is variable, depending on the coloration of the fruit skin. Ethephon, a plant growth regulator, promotes the ethylene production and induces physiological responses associated with fruit maturation in climacteric fruit crops, such as apples. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ethephon treatment on fruit characteristics after fruit enlargement, with the objective of proposing an economical and stable harvest control method for 'Fuji'/M.26 apples. Fruit characteristics were assessed at 10-days intervals following the application of 100 mg/L ethephon and mixture of 100 mg/L ethephon and 0.5% CaCl2 at 145 days after full bloom (DAFB). Starch contents of ethephon-treated (ET) and ethephon with CaCl2-treated (EC) apples began to decrease from 155 DAFB, and the starch contents of ET and EC at 10 days before harvest were similar to those of control at harvest time. Red coloration of fruit skin in EC was lower compared to ET but higher than control. The average fruit firmness was low in ET, while the control and EC exhibited similar levels of firmness. Fruit sugar acid ratios did not show significant differences between treatments. However, the titratable acidity of EC was significantly lower than that of the control at 10 days before harvest. Moreover, fruit sugar acid ratio of ET and EC at 10 days before harvest in 2021 was similar to their sugar acid ratio at harvest time. Therefore, it was thought that fruit maturation and skin coloration could be accelerated by 10 days from the harvest time through the combined treatment of 100 mg/L ethephon and 0.5% CaCl2 at the end of fruit enlargement in 'Fuji'/M.26.

Comparison Plant Growth and Fruit Setting among Sweet Pepper Cultivars of Red Line (적색 계통 파프리카 품종 간 생육 및 착과 특성 비교)

  • To suggest the basic data for exporting enlargement of sweet pepper (Capsicim annuum L.), this study compared plant growth and fruit setting characteristics among 8 cultivars of red line. At 23 weeks after planting, plant height was long in 'Debla', 'Cupra', 'Thialf', 'Viper' and 'Spider', and was shot in 'Scirocco', 'Ferrari', 'Special'. 'Debla' had a few nodes number and long internode length. For 23 weeks after planting, weekly increment of plant hight and number of developed node were many in 'Debla' and 'Cupra', were few in 'Special' and 'Ferrari'. Average fruits of over 200 g was harvested in 'Viper', 'Spider' and 'Debla', average fruits of range of 180~200 g was harvested in 'Special' and 'Thialf', and average fruits of range of 160~180 g was harvested in 'Scirocco' and 'Cupra'. Cultivars harvested heavy fruits except in 'Debla' was high in percentage of irregular fruit size. Number of fruit setting on plant was many in 'Cupra' and 'Ferarri', ripening first was many in 'Ferarri', 'Scirocco' and 'Viper'.

Evaluation of horticultural traits and genetic relationship in melon germplasm (멜론 유전자원의 원예형질 특성 및 유연관계 분석)

  • Horticultural traits and genetic relationship were evaluated for 83 melon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivars. Survey of a total of 36 characteristics for seedling, leaf, stem, flower, fruit, and seed and subsequent multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) were conducted. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that 8 principle components including fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, cotyledon length, seed diameter, and seed length accounted for 76.3% of the total variance. Cluster analysis of the 83 melon cultivars using average linkage method resulted in 5 clusters at coefficient of 0.7. Cluster I consisted of cultivars with high values for fruit-related traits, Cluster II for soluble solid content, and Cluster V for high ripening rate. Genotyping of the 83 cultivars was conducted using 15 expressed-sequence tagged-simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) from the Cucurbit Genomics Initiative (ICuGI) database. Analysis of genetic relatedness by UPGMA resulted in 6 clusters. Mantel test indicated that correlation between morphological and genetic distance was very low (r = -0.11).

Current Research Status of Postharvest and Packaging Technology of Oriental Melon (Cucumis melo var. makuwa) in Korea (국내 참외의 수확 후 관리 및 포장기술 연구)

  • Oriental melon ($Cucumis$ $melo$ var. $makuwa$) is a popular and high-value market fruit cultivated in Korea. Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in oriental melon as a healthy diet over the past few years. However, the melons have relatively high quality loss because the fruit are mainly produced for a limited period of time in the summer season. Lack of the proper postharvest treatments and high temperature exposure at harvest or during distribution are the most critical environmental factors limiting postharvest life of fruit. This review focuses on the overview of current research studies for postharvest treatment and functional packaging technology of oriental melon in Korea. Major physiological problems of the harvest fruit include the ripening process in quality changes of the produce such as loss of weight, firmness, flavor, and decay during the storage periods. Low temperature at 7 to $10^{\circ}C$ with high relative humidity of 90 to 95% is the suitable environmental condition used to maintain the quality of fresh oriental melon. Controlled atmosphere (CA) storage or modified atmosphere (MA) packaging can be used as supplemental treatments to extend postharvest-life. For oriental melon, an optimum CA is currently recommended to be 2-3% oxygen and 5-10% carbon dioxide atmosphere. Precooling, pretreatments of ethylene action and functional packaging system can be applied to oriental melon after harvest in order to extend storage life. Major active packaging technologies are concerned with a selectively gas permeable film related to respiration of produce and the packaging applications of ethylene removal, antimicrobial, and antifogging substances to keep the effective freshness of fruit.

The Effects of Treatment with Ethylene-Producing Tablets on the Quality and Storability of Banana (Musa sp.)

  • This study was conducted to assess the effect of ethylene producing tablet (patent no.10-1574011) and treatment period on quality and storability of banana (AAA - Cavendish group) fruit imported into Korea from the Philippines. Three and five days of treatment periods, and different concentrations of ethylene tablet (50 ppmv, 100 ppmv) and control (standard ethylene gas treatment at a concentration of 100 ppmv) were used for the study. Slightly higher respiration rate was observed in banana fruits treated with 50 ppmv in both 3 and 5 days after treatments as compared to the control. Better storability was observed with banana fruits treated with 50 ppmv and 100 ppmv as compared to the control. All the treatments were shown a decrease in firmness as the storage days proceeded. The highest firmness was recorded from 50 ppmv on the initial day of storage while the lowest was recorded from 100 ppmv on 9 day storage. It was observed that banana fruits could be stored for up to 12 days without losing their color quality in all treatments except for the control. However, the quality of fruits at the control rapidly decreased (lost marketability) after 9 days of storage. Banana fruits treated with ethylene tablet with 100 ppmv for 5 days recorded the highest soluble solids content (SSC) at the beginning of storage period which was similar with the control. However, banana fruits treated with ethylene tablet with 100 ppmv for 3 days showed better storability than the control. On the other hand, ethylene tablet with 50 ppmv for 5 days of treatment has extended banana shelf life without affecting peel color, firmness and SSC content. Hence, these results indicate that banana fruits treated with ethylene tablet with 100 ppmv for 3 days or /and 50 ppmv for 5 days are an optimum for ripening of banana to be used for market and ultimate consumption.
