The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of spermine treatment on the growth, yield and quality in strawberry under low-temperature condition, and thereby develop a chemical method to minimize damages by low temperature in greenhouse cultivation. Spermine treatment significantly improved the growth of strawberry in terms of leaf number, leaf area, leaf length, leaf diameter, plant height and plant weight. The highest effect was observed in the 250 uM spermine treatment and the effect tended to be maintained during the entire growth period of 90 days. Fresh weight and dry weight were significantly different depending on the concentrations of spermine. Strawberry plants treated with 250 uM spermine showed higher fresh weight and dry weight compared to untreated control plants during the growth period. Fruit weight, fruit length and fruit diameter were relatively higher when treated with $100{\mu}M$ spermine compared to other treatments. The fruit yield was the highest with 14 fruits per plant at $250{\mu}M$ spermine treatment and the coloration of the fruit was the best at this treatment with the Hunter a and b values of 46.56 and 28.75, respectively. The hardness of strawberry fruit tended to increase higher than 2N at $250{\mu}M$ and $500{\mu}M$ 250 uM spermine treatment. The sugar content of strawberries treated with $250{\mu}M$ spermine was $9.5^{\circ}$ Bx which was $1.6^{\circ}$ Bx higher compared to that in untreated control. However, spermine treatment did not affect the acidity of fruit and it remained 0.68-0.76% regardless of treatment concentrations. These results suggest that spermine treatment has a positive effect on the growth and productivity of strawberry fruit under abnormal low-temperature condition. The positive effect was the highest at $250{\mu}M$ spermine treatment and gradually decreased in the order of $100{\mu}M$, $500{\mu}M$, and untreated control.
In recent years, the deterioration of fruit quality caused by poor coloration and sunburn disorder has become serious problems in apple market, which is a result of the increase of surface temperature due to the abnormal temperature increase during summer season. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of wind net shading and fine water spray using sprinkler on fruit coloration, sunburn damage and overall fruit quality of 'Fuji' and 'Hongro' apples. Fifteen sprinklers (7L/hr) were installed at the orchard of the Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, located in Sinam-myeon Chungcheongnam-do Korea, at a height of 3m above the apple tree of $1.5m{\times}3.5m$ north-south direction. Fine water spraying treatment was divided into day time spray (10:00 am to 6:00 pm) and all day spray (10:00 am to 10:00 pm) from early July to 10 days before harvest in 2017 and 2018 season, respectively. Temperature of the surface of apple fruit, characteristic of fruit, and degree of sunburn damage were investigated. In 'Fuji', the fruit surface temperature checked at 2 pm on August 10 was decreased considerably in the day time spray ($35.6^{\circ}C$) and wind net ($39.0^{\circ}C$) when compared with the untreated control ($44.4^{\circ}C$). Similarly, the fruit surface temperature also decreased considerably in the all day spray ($35.1^{\circ}C$) and wind net ($36.9^{\circ}C$) treatments when compared with the untreated control ($46.5^{\circ}C$) in 'Hongro' apples. The incidence of sunburn disorder was significantly decreased with day time spray (5.0%), all day spray (5.8%) and wind net (7.0%) when compared with untreated control (23.4%) in 'Fuji' apples. As a results, the treatment of fine water spray and wind net consequently showed 26% and 34% increase of redness ($a^*$) value in the skin color difference, respectively, in 'Fuji' apples.

The purpose of this study is to suggest indicators and proper standards to forecast the sensory quality of 'Hongisul' grape. Further, this study determines the optimum fruit load of 'Hongisul' grape reflecting consumer preference. Among several quality attributes, identified through instrumental and sensory evaluation, soluble solid-acid ratio was the most useful indicator of consumer preference for 'Hongisul' grapes. The ideal soluble solid-acid ratio for marketable grapes was found to be higher than 86.3. Analysis on the effects of fruit load control on fruit quality revealed a negative correlation where the latter increased as the former decreased. This trend is common for all grape species. The field with a fruit load of $1,400kg{\cdot}10a^{-1}$ exhibited a soluble solid-acid ratio of less than 86.3, uneven coloring and slow softening texture at the mature stage. However, fruit quality proved excellent in the field with a fruit load of $1,200kg{\cdot}10a^{-1}$ or less. It is therefore proposed that fruit load should be controlled to $1,200kg{\cdot}10a^{-1}$ or less when growing 'Hongisul' grapes to produce high quality grapes. We believe that this result can be used as a standard in judging harvest time and evaluating fruit quality.

We analyzed the effect of planting site (elevation: high, middle, low) and temperature condition of orchard on the frost injury occurrence and storage characteristics of persimmon (Diospyros kaki cv. 'Fuyu) fruits under an early fall frost at two orchards, Changwon (A) and Changnyeong (B), Gyeongsangnam-do Korea. Also, the fruits picked at Nov. 5 and Nov. 20 were MA stored to investigate the quality and chilling injury of fruits. On 2-way factor analysis, both planting elevation and orchard factor had not a significant effect on fruit characteristics (weight, firmness, soluble solid), while planting elevation factor did on the skin color (hunter 'a')(p<0.05). A fruit skin coloration at orchard A was faster than that at orchard B. At low elevation of orchard B, 2% fruits were frost injured at harvest season. On LDPE film MA storage with the fruits harvested at Nov. 5 and Nov. 20, the fruits at orchard A had higher fruit firmness than those of orchard B during storage. In addition, the 73% (orchard A) and 85%(orchard B) fruits harvested at Nov. 5 showed no chilling injury 80 days after storage. However, At harvest of Nov, 20 (after incidence of frost), only the 14% fruits of orchard B had no the chilling disorder 80 days after storage, even though 76% fruits at orchard A did.
The aim of this study is to develop an effective dyeing process for black color on the silk fabrics, using natural Indigo, Madder, Amur cork tree, Alder, Logwood, and Gallnut. All natural dye materials were water-extracted, concentrated, and freeze-dried. Seven different processes were carried out and the color differences(${\Delta}E$) of black color with each process from the chemical black dyed fabric were compared. The light, washing, and rubbing fastness were evaluated. The black dyeing of the silk fabrics was well carried and excellent black color was obtained in every methods. The profound black color could be obtained by the subtractive mixture of the three primary colors of red, yellow, and blue in the order of indigo(blue) - amur cork tree(yellow) - madder or lac(red). Black color was efficiently obtained by iron mordant when logwood or alder fruit was used. The color difference(${\Delta}E$) from the black color with chemical dyestuff was the lowest in the indigo - amur cork tree - lac - iron method. Light fastness and washing fastness were excellent in all dyeing processes, showing grade 5. The fastness to rubbing was excellent as shown grade 5 in the dry samples of logwood - iron process and alder fruit - iron process.
The sweet pepper (paprika) is one of the most important exported vegetable crops in Korea. This study evaluated the storability of sweet pepper fruits between 2 cultivars with different maturities under different storage conditions. The sweet peppers ('Special' and 'Fiesta') were grown in a rockwool hydroponic system, and harvested two different maturities: half-maturity and full-maturity levels. The sweet pepper fruits were stored in MA(non-ventilated) and non-MA(ventilated) conditions at 4 and $9^{\circ}C$ for 20 days. The storability of sweet pepper fruit was the highest in $4^{\circ}C$ MA conditions that remained 5% carbon dioxide and 10% oxygen during the storage. The ethylene concentration in MA condition showed $2{\sim}8{\mu}l/l$ regardless of storage temperatures, cultivars and maturities. The fruits packaged with non-ventilated film, showed lower weight loss, and higher firmness, and there was no different about decay ratio compared to the fruits packed ventilated film. The coloration of semi-matured fruit that colored 50% before storage progressed faster in non-ventilated packaging condition at $9^{\circ}C$, but their color did not changed as same as level of full-matured fruit. The electrolyte leakages and respiratory rate that estimated degree of chilling injury was highest in non-MA(ventilated) conditions of 'Special' full matured fruit placed at room temperature for 3 days following storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 20 days. It may be suggested that sweet pepper fruit packed sealed (non-ventilated) film and stored at non-chilling temperature can be maintained better quality for long term storage.

The study was conducted to investigate the relationship between berry set density per bearing shoot and fruit quality in 'Kyoho' grape. Fruit quality was evaluated by soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), skin color, and total anthocyanin content (TAC). There was a sharp increase in SSC of fruit juice from veraison initiation to 30 days after veraison. The SSC level increased with the lower berry set per bearing shoot. The rapid accumulation of SSC 4 weeks after veraison in the cluster of low berry set (10-20) was observed, while that of high berry set (40-50) showed delayed and low SSC accumulation which reached only $15.0^{\circ}Bx$ at harvest. TA of fruit juice in all treatments reduced rapidly from veraison initiation to 30 days after veraison, and then reduced gradually. TA in all treatments except 50 berries set reached to 0.4-0.6% which was optimal TA in 'Kyoho' at fruit harvest. During fruit maturing after veraison, fruit skin color changed from green to purple-black, L and b value decreased, and a value increased. TAC in 10 and 20 berries set was gradually increased to 2 weeks after veraison, sharply increased until 6 weeks after veraison, and then finally decreased, while TAC in content in 30, 40, and 50 berries set per annual shoot remained at low level. The results indicated that the number of berry set for good quality seemed to be 20 per bearing shoot in 'Kyoho' grape.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of inoculation time of phosphate- solubilizing Kluyvera sp. CL2 on fruit quality in cultivation of Campbell early' grape. When phosphate-solubilizing strain was treated at the stone-hardening stage, soil phosphorous increased, exchangeable cations such as K, Ca and Mg also increased. Soil pH was not changed severely due to the soil buffer capacity. Water soluble phosphate concentrations did not decrease heavily up to 20 days after inoculation. When this strain was treated at the berry-softening stage, soil phosphate solubilization ratio was high, cluster weight and sugar content also increased. Both anthocyanin contents and Hunter's values were seen to be significant when inoculation times were stone-hardening stage and berry-softening stage, in particular, increase of Hunter's value a resulted in the improvement of coloration. From these results, we could find that the inoculation of phosphate-solubilizing Kluyvera sp. CL2 at berry-softening stage was the most effective in improvement of fruit productivity and quality in cultivation of'Campbell early' grape.

This study was carried out to understand the physiological characteristics of 'Manpungbae' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) pears through the seasonal changes of pericarp structure and anatomical differences between bagging and non-bagging treatment, and also fruit quality and peel coloration characteristics at the harvest time. The pericarp at full bloom was consists of outer epidermis, hypodermis, parenchyma cell, and inner epidermis from the exterior. The cell layers from the outer epidermis to vascular bundle increased rapidly 7-10 layers to 18-26 layers from full bloom (FB) to 77 days after full bloom (DAFB) and did not change significantly until maturity. Thus, the cell division period of 'Manpungbae' pear was until 77 DAFB and during this period, the thickness from hypodermis to vascular bundle increased from $73.1{\mu}m$ to $195{\mu}m$ in this period. Stone cells were formed from seven to 21 DAFB and stone cell clusters were formed around 49 DAFB. The cork cell layer was formed between 49 and 77 DAFB. 'Manpungbae' fruit pericarp was consists of 4.5 layers of the cork cell layers and seven layers of hypodermis which has the tannin at harvest time (161 DAFB). Comparison of the fruit enlargement and fruit structure development by bagging or non-bagging showed that 'Manpungbae' fruits without bagging had more than three cork cell layer than those with bagging at maturity. The size of stone cell clusters were varied in two treatments. Fruit weight was higher in the non-bagging treatment but there was no difference in soluble solid contents (SSC) between two treatments. The weight of the 'Manpunbae' fruit was distributed from 301 g to more 900 g and the average fruit weight was 677.2 g at harvest time, and fruits in the range of 551-800 g accounted for 71.6% of total production. The SSC, acidity and SSC/acidity ratio was $10.2-12.1^{\circ}Brix$, 0.10-1.24% and 9.76-14.31 respectively, and the SSC was higher in bigger fruit which had a very higher positive correlation with a fruit weight. However, the fruit firmness tended to be lower with fruit size which had a very higher negative correlation with the fruit weight and SSC. The cork cell layer numbers between yellowish brown and green pericarp were not different significantly, in 3.8 and 3.5 respectively.
The effects of girdling on fruit quality and cold resistance of 'Kyoho' grapes were investigated. Girdling treatment was conducted on the trunk at 10 cm above ground with 1 cm width and grapes were harvested at 90 and 110 days after full bloom to compare the fruit quality. First harvesting rate in girdling treatment was higher than that in non-girdling treatment and coloration was also higher in girdled vines at the final harvest. In other words, coloring process of grape was promoted and enhanced by girdling, but this effect of coloring improvement was decreased after successive girdling treatment. Fruit quality showed no difference between the treated and non-treated berries, but fruit cracking rate was lower in girdled treated berries. Girdled trees were weakened and suffered from freezing damage. Especially, most grapevines withered up after being girdled for three consecutive years. Although girdling had effect on improving the berry coloring significantly, the effect wore off with continuous girdling. And it was possible that consecutive girdling leaded to wither and growth suppression especially in grapevines. These adverse effects may make the continuous girdling technique unsuitable in practice for 'Kyoho' grape.
