Many surgeons are on the point of bone excision and reconstruction of the bone defects by autograft. xenograft, and allograft in the treatment of begin and malignant tumors of bone. Of all type of bone grafts, we received the autograft as the best ideal bone graft. Of autogenic bone graft, replantation of excised autogenic bone for reconstructiong the bone defects has been the ideal method until now, but early bone healing reponses and tumor cell devitalization after replantation of excised autogenic bone have not been identified for clinical applications. So, to evaluate bone healing response after replantation in rabbit's calvarial bone, we divided the experimental group into three groups. Group 1 is a fresh autogenous bone group. Group 2 is a deep frozen group. Group 3 is freeze-dried demineralized group. Obtained result were as followed: 1. Inflammatory cell infiltration appeared at I week and disappeared at 4 weeks in all experimental group, Especially, severe inflammatory cell infiltration showed in fresh autogenous bone group at 2 weeks. Group 3 is the least showing group on the point of inflammatory cell infiltration. 2. Osteoblastic activity evenly increased upto 4 weeks and maintained to 6 weeks and decreased after this period, especially osteoblastic activity in group 2 is less than group 1 and group 3. We can't discriminate between osteoblastic activity of group 1 and that of group 3. 3. In new bone formation, group 3 was more active than any other groups at early stage, but there were little differences among three experimental groups at later state. 4. Bone resorption around the grafted bone slightly appeared at 1 week and disappeared at 4 weeks in all experimental groups. We can find the more bone resorption in group 2 at 2 weeks than any other groups. We could suggest, as appears from our results, that freeze-dried deminiralized bone graft is the useful bone graft in the clinical applications of excised autogenic bone.
The definition of edible ice is frozen water for the use of food manufacturing, processing, or cooking, as well as for the direct eating. It has been reported that in the process of ice manufacturing and its selling, edible ice is contaminated with some microorganisms, which causes food poisoning and gastroenteritis. It was shown that besides in the edible ice, germ growth caused by various reasons occurred in the mineral water, tap water, water filtering system, and water purifier. With public awareness, in order to examine the sanitary conditions of edible ice in the Northern area of Daegu metropolitan city, 15 places were randomly selected. As a result, 14 places were found to be contaminated with microorganisms. After incubating on the Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) agar plate, 80% of Gram-negative bacilli, 17% of Gram-positive cocci, and 3% of Gram-negative cocci were cultured. Enterobacter cloacae, Chryseomonas luteola, Pantoea spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus or Providencia rettgeri were detected. Gram-positive cocci cultured in BHI agar plate from 5 specimens were identified as Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus xylosus, which is well known bacteria causing strong food poisoning. This present paper raises questions on the importance and awareness of sanitary conditions of edible ice and the identification of pathogenic microorganisms living in the edible ice in relation to their distribution. The examination of sanitary conditions of edible ice in other areas in Daegu seems to be also needed to find out if there are similar cases.

A styrofoam box is used as a simple and easy freezing method to preserve animal semen as a livestock genetic source. This study optimized the methods of freezing chikso brindled cattle semen. To test the freezing box, the motility of spermatozoa was compared between two box sizes (length×width×heigh) with the dimensions of 23.5×30.5×22.5 cm and 25.5×46.5×26.5 cm. The motility of thawed sperm from brindled Korean bulls was used to confirm the efficiency of the freezing boxes. The box having a larger inner space with larger horizontal and height measurements supported better motility after thawing (60.4±5.3% vs 67.2±3.1%) with 10 min of exposure time in liquid nitrogen vapor. The optimized freezing space is estimated to be an essential element for successful freezing results and the larger box could be used for production of more than 60 frozen semen straws. These properties are also helpful to optimize the cryopreservation techniques that would control the quality and quantity of semen straws according to different animal species.
Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract on nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) production and on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free-radical scavenging in macrophages. Methods: Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (300 g) was heated at $100^{\circ}C$ with distilled water (2 L) for 4 hours. The extract was filtered and concentrated to 100 mL by using a rotary evaporator, was frozen at $-80^{\circ}C$, and was then freeze-dried by using a freezing-drying system. The RAW 264.7 macrophage was subcultured by using $10-{\mu}g/mL$ lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In order to evaluate cytotoxicity, we performed 3-(4,5-dimrthylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays and measured the cell viability. The NO production was measured by using Griess assays, and the $PGE_2$ production was measured by using enzyme immunoassays. The antioxidant activity, the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free-radical scavenging capability, was measured by using the DPPH method. Results: Cell viability with the 1-, 5-, 25-, 125- and $625-{\mu}g/mL$ Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract was not significantly decreased compared to the cell viability without the extract. When 125 and $625{\mu}g/mL$ of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract were used, nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages was significantly inhibited compared to that in the control group. When 25, 125, and $625{\mu}g/mL$ of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract were used, $PGE_2$ production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages was significantly inhibited compared to that in the control group. The 125- and $625-{\mu}g/mL$ Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extracts had high DPPH free-radical scavenging capabilities in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Conclusion: This study indicates that Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract suppresses NO and $PGE_2$ production and improves DPPH free-radical scavenging capability. Thus, it seems that Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix hot aqueous extract may have an anti-inflammation effect and antioxidant activity.
1. The relatively lower prehardening temperature was more effective on increase of the hardiness of the intermediately hardy varieties than the higher one but either the extremely hardy or nonhardy varieties did not respond to the temperature as much as the intermediate types. 2. Five degree Centigrade was generally more favorable than $2^{\circ}C$ on hardening of the plants, especially when frozen at higher temperature for shorter duration. 3. It appears that photoperiod during prehardening and hardening did not play so important role as temperature on the hardiness. 4. The higher the soil moisture content, the higher the frost injury occurred. 5. Application of nitrogen increased markedly the hardiness and % DM of the plants. Percentage of dry matter of young seedlings might be used as an easy and rough criterion for evaluating hardiness since there was a highly significant regression of varietal frost injury on the %DM. 6. Four days appeared to be enough for hardening of plants although the plants increased gradually the hardiness as duration of hardening extended. Dehardening of the plants at relativity higher temperature took place rapidly within one to four days. 7. Under this controlled environment, freezing at about $-8^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours seemed the best for the purpose of evaluating the hardiness to low temperature. 8. It is believed that assessment of frost injury should be done at least one week after freezing. Some varieties showed strong ability to recover from the damage as recovery period was extended. 9. As a whole, Cd 80 and 83 were the most hardy and followed by Cappelle and Maris Otter. Four. winter oats varieties and Jufy I belonged to the intermediate type while the other three spring varieties were nonhardy at all. Peniarth was comparable with Maris Otter in hardiness. S 147 appeared the least hardy among the winter oats varieties. 10. It is evident that water-soluble carbohydrate content is associated with the hardiness to some extent but not primary factor involved in hardiness.
The objective of this study is to investigate cryoprotective effects of corn starch enzyme hydrolysates of nonsweet and low-calories on denaturation of frozen fish protein. The cryoprotective effects of were examined in Alaska pollack actomyosin solution by changes in SDS-PAGE pattern, solubility, and $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity. When samples stored for 0 and 30 days were compared on SDS-PAGE patterns, severe changes in all bands were shown on the control sample regardless of storage temperature, especially in myosin heavy chain (MHC). Not much difference no appeared the electrophoretic pattern in case of the samples containing sucrose at any storage temperature during 30 days of storage. The cryoprotective effect of the hydrolysates were markedly dependant on storage temperature and no MHC band was found in the samples stored at $-5^{\circ}C$. The SDS-PAGE patterns of sample stored at $-20^{\circ}C$, however, completely maintained after 30 days or storage. When the samples were stored at $-5^{\circ}C$, the solubility of the sample containing sucrose was retained at $90\%$ after 30 days of storage, whereas dramatically decreased in other samples. The samples including sucrose, D.E. 10, 15, and 20 revealed $90\%$ in solubility when stored at $-20^{\circ}C$. The tendency of remaining $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase activity was almost shown the same as that of solubility.
A feeding experiment was conducted to determine the effects of feeding frequency on growth and body composition in juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). Triplicate groups of the 40 fish averaging 1.6 g were fed the 2 different commercial diets (D-1 and D-2) and moist pellet (MP) contained frozen horse mackerel and commercial binder meal at different feeding frequencies of 4 times daily, 3 times daily, 2 times daily, once a day or once in 2 days. Growth and feed intake of fish were affected by diets and feeding frequencies (P<0.05). Feed intake ($\%$ of body wt.) in the all diet groups was significantly decreased according to feeding frequency decreased (P<0.05). Weight gain of fish fed the each diet were increased according to feeding frequency increased, although no significant differences were observed between 3 times and 4 times daily (P>0,05). If the same feeding frequency, feed intake and growth of fish fed the moist pellet were lower (P<0.05) than those of commercial diets (D-1 or D-2), probably due to the relatively high moisture content or unbalanced nutrients. Whole body lipid content of fish fed the each diet at once in 2 days was the lowest among feeding frequencies. These results indicate that 3 times daily feeding regimen may be more effective than that of 4 times daily and moist pellet in this study will not be used as a practical type of diet for juvenile olive flounder weighing between 1,6 g and 4 g.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of extruded pellet (EP) diets, as compared to a raw fish moist pellet (MP) diet for olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, grown in commercial-scale aquaculture for 1 year. Four diets with duplication per diet were formulated for this experiment: two experimental EP diets (EP1 and EP2), one commercial EP diet (CEP), and a raw fish MP diet (MP). The MP diet consisted of 80% frozen horse mackerel and 20% commercial binder meal. Fish weighing $30.1{\pm}0.1 g$ ($mean{\pm}SD$) were distributed randomly to each aquarium as a group of 2,600 fish. Weight gain (WG) and feed efficiency ratio (FER) of fish fed EP2 and MP were higher (P<0.05) than those of fish fed CEP, while those of fish fed EP1 did not differ (P>0.05) from those fed EP2 and MP. However, fish fed the MP diet had a higher survival rate than fish fed the other diets. Fish fed EP2 had higher serum, phospholipids and total protein levels, and lower levels of serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and total cholesterol than fish fed MP (P<0.05). Dorsal muscle and liver proteins and lipid of fish fed EP1 were higher (P<0.05) than those of fish fed CEP, while those of fish fed EP1 and MP did not differ from those of fish fed EP2 (P>0.05). These results strongly suggest that EP1 could be developed to replace MP for grow-out stage production of olive flounder without adverse effects on growth performance.

A study on the rapid fermentation of fish sauce has been carried out for effective utilization of sardine. The frozen sardine was thawed at room temperature, chopped, homogenized with equal amount of water and then hydrolyzed by addition of commercial proteolytic enzymes such as bromelain, papaya protease, ficin and a enzyme mixture under different conditions of hydrolysis. The effect of wheat gluten for masking fishy odor and color development during thermal treatment were also tested. The reaction mixture was heated for 30 minutes at $100^{\circ}C$ for enzyme inactivation, pasteurization and color development and then centrifuged for 20 minutes at 4,000 rpm. Finally, table salt and benzoic acid were added for bacteriostatic effect. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The hydrolyzing temperature, time, pH and the concentration of enzymes based on the weight of whole sardine for optimal hydrolysis were as follows: autolysis, $52.5^{\circ}C$, 4 hours, pH 8.0: with $0.25\%$ bromelain, $52.5^{\circ}C$, 4 hours, pH 6.6 :with $0.25\%$ ficin, $52.5^{\circ}C$, 4 hours, pH 6.8: with $0.3\%$ papaya protease, $52.5^{\circ}C$, 4 hours, pH 6.6: with $6\%$ enzyme mixture, $52.5^{\circ}C$, 4 hours, pH 6.9, respectively. But pH control was not much beneficial in increasing yield. 2. The hydrolytic reaction of chopped sardine with proteolytic enzymes could be interpreted as a first order reaction that devided into 2 periods with different reaction rate constsnts. $Q_{10}$ values of the first period prior to 4 hours were 1.23 to 1.31, and those of post 4 hours were 1.25 to 1.55. The corresponding activation energies were $1.81{\times}10^4\;to\;2.34{\times}10^4\;kJ/kmol$ and $1.92{\times}10^4\;to\;3.77{\times}10^4\;kJ/kmol$, respectively. 3. The reasonable amount of $75\%$ vital wheat gluten for addition was $9\%$ of chopped sardine. 4. The dark brown color was mainly developed during the thermal treatment for 30 minutes at $100^{\circ}C$ and not changed during storage.
Due to the changes in the distribution market, issues related to storage and distribution of agricultural, aquatic and livestock products, and storage and transportation of processed and fresh food are rapidly emerging, and as a result, Cold Chain is naturally receiving attention as one of the logistics services. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the competitiveness of location in the construction of a cold chain cluster centered on the metropolitan area, which has attracted attention in relation to the distribution of cold chains, such as recently refrigerated frozen foods. To this end, this study evaluated the competitiveness of cold chain cluster candidates in the metropolitan area by utilizing the CFPR (Consistent Fuzzy Preference Relations) method that can efficiently extract and quantify expert knowledge. As a result, the location competitiveness was found to be superior to Incheon New Port's hinterland, Gyeonggi South Area (Yongin), Gyeonggi West Area (Gimpo Logistics Complex), and Pyeongtaek Oseong Logistics Complex. In particular, this study extracted the knowledge of refrigerated and refrigerated logistics warehouse operation experts, and conducted detailed competitiveness assessments for cold chain cluster candidates in the metropolitan area, and suggested the optimal cluster candidates. In the future research, it is necessary to classify the questionnaire into the owner, large business group, and public business group, etc., who have the right to purchase and build to secure ownership of the fresh food distribution center.
