We present the results from B-, R-, I-, J- and H-band observations of the NEP-Wide survey field. The NEP-Wide survey is an AKARI survey of the North Ecliptic Pole covering ~ 5 square degrees area. Our optical/NIR imaging supports the AKARI IR imaging data by providing a crucial coverage in the optical/NIR. The optical data were obtained in 2007 using the 1.5 m telescope and SNUCAM at Maidanak Observatory, Uzbekistan. The NIR data were obtained in 2008 with FLAMINGOS on the KPNO 2.1 m telescope. We used IRAF, SExtractor, SCAMP, and SWarp for reducing the raw data, I-band fringe pattern removal, astrometry, standard photometry calibration, and source detection. Our optical-NIR data reach the depths of B ~ 23.4, R ~ 23.1, I ~ 22.3, J ~ 21.05, and H ~ 20.64 AB mag at 5-sigma. Here, we present the astrometric accuracy, galaxy number counts, completeness, and reliability, as well as redshift tracks of some normal galaxies and quasars on the B - R vs. R - I color-color diagram. The photometric data are being used for identifying optical counterparts of the IR data provided by AKARI, studying their SEDs, and selecting interesting objects for spectroscopic follow-up studies.

Recently, the first generation of mass production of FinFET-based microprocessors has begun, and scaling of FinFET transistors is ongoing. Traditional capacitance and resistance models cannot be applied to nonplanar-gate transistors like FinFETs. Although scaling of nanoscale FinFETs may alleviate electrostatic limitations, parasitic capacitances and resistances increase owing to the increasing proximity of the source/drain (S/D) region and metal contact. In this paper, we develop analytical models of parasitic components of FinFETs that employ the raised source/drain structure and metal contact. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified with the results of a 3-D field solver, Raphael. We also investigate the effects of layout changes on the parasitic components and the current-gain cutoff frequency ($f_T$). The optimal FinFET layout design for RF performance is predicted using the proposed analytical models. The proposed analytical model can be implemented as a compact model for accurate circuit simulations.

We proposed a novel single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. We designed cell structure driven by fringe electric field in the transmissive (T) part and vertical electric field in the reflective (R) part. In the device, high surface pretilt angle of the LC in the R-part is achieved through polymerization of an UV curable reactive mesogen (RM) monomer at surfaces. By optimizing the parameters, a newly developed transflective display has characteristics such as single gap and single gamma curve.

Due to the complexity of the engineering problems, it is difficult to obtain directly the stress field around the crack tip by theoretical derivation. In the paper, the hybrid method is employed to calculate full-field stress around the crack tip in uni-axially leaded finite width tensile plate, using the displacement data of given points calculated by finite element method as input data. The method uses complex variable formulations involving conformal mappings and analytical continuity. In order to accurately compare calculated fringes with experimental ones, both actual and reconstructed photoelastic fringe patterns are two times multiplied and sharpened by digital image processing. Reconstructed fringes by hybrid method are quite comparable to actual fringes. The experimental results indicate that Mode I stress intensity factor analyzed by the hybrid method are accurate within a few percent compared with ones obtained by empirical equation and finite element analysis.
The stress field around the dynamically propagating interface crack tip under a remote mixed mode loading condition has been studied with the aid of dynamic photoelastic method. The variation of stress field around the dynamic interface crack tip is photographed by using the Cranz-Shardin type camera having $10^6$ fps rate. The dynamically propagating crack velocities and the shapes of isochromatic fringe loops are characterized for varying mixed load conditions in double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens. The dynamic interface crack tip complex stress intensity factors, $K_1\;and\;K_2$, determined by a hybrid-experimental method are found to increase as the load mixture ratio of y/x (vertical/horizontal) values. Furthermore, it is found that the dynamically propagating interface crack velocities are highly dependent upon the varying mixed mode loading conditions and that the velocities are significantly small compared to those under the mode I impact loading conditions obtained by Shukla (Singh & Shukla, 1996a, b) and Rosakis (Rosakis et al., 1998) in the USA.

The purpose of this study is to verify the factors determining core journals in a field based upon the results of the citation analysis of the journals in the field of Korean History(KH). In order to verify the determinant factors, dividing the articles of the KH journals into their novelty and author's seniority, the following hypotheses were established. Hypothesis 1: When a KH journal publishes more articles on prehistoric and ancient eras than others, the journal will have higher chance to be included in the core journals. Hypothesis 2: When a KH journal publishes more articles by senior researchers than others, the journal will have higher chance to be included in the core journals. To achieve the purpose, the cited articles found in the two sample journals, namely, Backsan Hakbo and Hanguksa Yongu were analysed during the past 20 years from 1962 to 1981. Applying the Hirst's Discipline Impact Factor method to the the study, Historical Science Impact Factor(HSIF) on the samples itself and the historical era dealt with in the articles and the seniority of the authors during every five-year period. Based upon thr present study to ver~fy the two hypotheses, the following conclusions have been reached. 1) Tht. most influencing sublect mattcr era or1 thix liSIF of the lo~lrual is arranged in prehistoric arid ancient, Koryo, Chosun, recent era, and the others by order of era. 2 ) Clial~g~~lg a fringe or semicore journal u~to a core j ~ u r n a l , very IISIF' 011 it> article e r a 1s grown up arrd prcllistoric a ~ ~ d ancierlt era:. are, s p c c ~ a l l ~ , incr.eased high relatively. In this study, we investigated the electro-optical (EO) characteristic of fringe-field switching (FFS) mode cell by the two kinds of ultraviolet (UV) alignment method on the organic thin film (polyimide: PI). The suitable organic layers for FFS cell and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the in-situ photoalignment method were studied; Disclination is observed after conventional photoalignment method for 1h, and in-situ photoalignment method for 1h. Monodomain alignment of the NLC can be observed via insitu photo alignment method for 2 h and 3 h. It is considered that NLC alignment is due to photo-depolymerization of the polymer with oblique non-polarized UV irradiation on PI surface. An unstable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with conventional photoalignment method can be achieved. However, a stable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photoalignment method (1 h), and V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photo alignment method was much stable comparing with that of other UV-aligned FFSLCD's. As a result, more stable EO performance of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photoalignment method for 3h is obtained than that of the other UV-aligned FFS-LCD's.

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys were conducted in a sand tank model in a laboratory and at an alluvial field site to detect the groundwater table and to investigate the influence of saturation on GPR response in the unsaturated zone. In the sand tank model, the groundwater table and saturation in the sand layer were altered by injecting water, which was then drained by a valve inserted into the bottom of the tank. GPR vertical reflection profile (VRP) data were obtained in the sand tank model for rising and lowering of the groundwater table to estimate the groundwater table and saturation. Results of the lab-scale model provide information on the sensitivity of GPR signals to changes in the water content and in the groundwater table. GPR wave velocities in the vadose zone are controlled mainly by variations in water content (increased travel time is interpreted as an increase in saturation). At the field site, VRP data were collected to a depth of 220 m to estimate the groundwater table at an alluvial site near the Nakdong river at Iryong-ri, Haman-gun, South Korea. Results of the field survey indicate that under saturated conditions, the first reflector of the GPR is indicative of the capillary fringe and not the actual groundwater table. To measure the groundwater table more accurately, we performed a GPR survey using the common mid-point (CMP) method in the vicinity of well-3, and sunk a well to check the groundwater table. The resultant CMP data revealed reflective events from the capillary fringe and groundwater table showing hyperbolic patterns. The normal moveout correction was applied to evaluate the velocity of the GPR, which improved the accuracy of saturation and groundwater table information at depth. The GPR results show that the saturation information, including the groundwater table, is useful in assessing the hydrogeologic properties of the vadose zone in the field.

Variations of temperature and velocity fields in a Hele-Shaw convection cell (HSC) were investigated using a holographic interferometry and 2-D PIV system with varying Rayleigh number. To measure quasi-steady variation of temperature field, two different measurement methods of holographic interferometry, double-exposure method and real-time method, were employed. In the double-exposure method, unwanted waves were eliminated effectively using a digital image processing technique. The reconstructed images are clear, but transient flow cannot be reconstructed clearly. On the other hand, transient convective flow can be reconstructed well using the real-time method. However, the fringe patterns reconstructed by the real-time method contain more noises, compared with the double-exposure method. Experimental results show a steady flow pattern at low Rayleigh numbers and a time-dependent periodic flow structure at high Rayleigh numbers. The periodic flow pattern at high Rayleigh numbers obtained by the real-time holographic interferometer method is in a good agreement with the PIV results.

A bulge testing system was developed to measure mechanical properties of thin film materials. A bulge pressure test system for pressurizing the bulge window of the film and a micro out-of-plane ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometric) system for measuring deflection of the film were included in the testing system developed. For the out-of-plane ESPI system, whole field speckle fringe pattern, corresponding to the out-of-plane deflection of the bulged film, was 3-dimensionally visualized using 4-bucket phase shifting algorithm and least square phase unwrapping algorithm. The bulge pressure for loading and unloading was controlled at a constant rate. From the pressure-deflection curve measured by this testing system, ain-plane stress-strain curve could be determined. In this study, elastic modulus of an electrolytic copper film 18 ${\mu}m$ was determined. The modulus was calculated from determining the plain-strain biaxial elastic modulus at the respective unloading slopes of the stress-strain curve and for the Poisson's ratio of 0.34.
