Abrasion tests of an SBR compound were conducted using four different types of abrasion testers (cut and chip, Lambourn, DIN, and LAT100). The abrasion test results were analyzed in terms of size distributions and morphologies of the wear particles. Most wear particles were larger than 1000 ㎛. The wear particle size distributions tended to decrease as the particle size decreased. Except for the Lambourn abrasion test, the wear particles smaller than 212 ㎛ were rarely generated by the other three abrasion tests, implying that small wear particles were produced through friction by introducing talc powder. Shapes of the wear particles varied depending on the abrasion testers. The wear particles generated from the Lambourn abrasion tester had stick-like shapes. The cut and chip abrasion test showed a clear abrasion pattern, but the DIN abrasion test did not show any specific abrasion pattern. The Lambourn and LAT100 abrasion tests showed irregular abrasion patterns.

During contact between surfaces, there is wear and the generation of wear. The particles contained in the lubricating oil carry detailed and important monitoring information about the condition of the machine. Therefore, this paper was undertaken for the Ferrography system of wear debris generated from a lubricated moving machine surface. The lubricating wear test was performed under different experimental conditions using the Falex wear test of the Pin and V-Block types by Ti(C,N) coated. It was shown from the test results that wear particle concentration(WPC), wear severity index(Is) and size distribution have come out all higher with increases in sliding friction time. With the Ferrogram thin leaf wear debris as well as ball and plate type wear particles were observed.
Friction characteristics of automotive friction materials according to the types of phenolic resin were investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Four different simplified friction materials bound with Bakelite$^{TM}$ and Xylok$^{TM}$ phenolic resin were studied in this work. Two different modes of drag test(constant initial temperature test and constant interval test) were employed to analyze the effects of the binders on friction characteristics. Friction materials containing modified Xylok$^{TM}$ resin showed good heat resistance and friction stability. The results also showed that aramid fiber played important roles in improving friction stability and weard wear
We have studied on the tribological characteristics of surface modification by Arc Ion Implantation(AIP) coating method. Coating materials were deposited by the Titanium carbide(TiC) and Titanium nitride(TiN). An experimental process was established to determine the tribological characteristics of friction and wear behaviour with the variation of applied load, temperature and the time by the Falex friction and wear test machine. The results, It can be improved that when the surface modification of hard coatings(TiC, TiN) was deposited steel, the tribological characteristics become better. It is argued that improved because of excellence of the anti-wear, the extreme pressure properties and the heat stability.
In order to enhance the thermal stability of binder materials of bonded type solid lubricants, several metal-alkoxide based sol-gel materials such as methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMOS), titaniumisopropoxide$(Ti(Opr^i)_4),$ zirconiumisopropoxide $(Zr(Opr^i)_4)$ and aluminumbutoxide$(Al(Obu^t)_4)$ were chemically modified by epoxy-, acrylic- and fluoro-silane compounds, respectively. Friction and wear characteristics of these hybrid ceramic materials were tested with a micro tribo-tester, and evaluated with respect to both heat-curing temperature and the time. Test results generally showed that hybrid ceramic materials modified by epoxy-silane compounds had a low friction compared to others. And the higher het-curing temperature and the longer heat treatment time resulted in the higher friction and the lower wear. IR spectroscopic analyses revealed that these results were caused mainly by the increased metal oxide content in hybrid ceramics when the heat-curing temperature was over $320^{\circ}C.$

The friction behaviour of Si-wafer, diamond-like carbon (DLC) and two self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) namely dimethyldichlorosilane (DMDC) and diphenyl-dichlorosilane (DPDC) coated on Si-wafer was studied under loading conditions in milli-newton (mN) range. Experiments were performed using a ball-on-flat type reciprocating micro-tribo tester. Glass balls with various radii 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm were used. The applied normal load was in the range of 1.5 mN to 4.8 mN. Results showed that the friction increased with the applied normal load in the case of all the test materials. It was also observed that friction was affected by the ball size. Friction increased with the increase in the ball size in the case of Si-wafer. The SAMs also showed a similar trend, but had lower values of friction than those of Si-wafer In-terestingly, for DLC it was observed that friction decreased with the increase in the ball size. This distinct difference in the behavior of friction in DLC was attributed to the difference in the operating mechanism. It was observed that Si-wafer and DLC exhibited wear, whereas wear was absent in the SAMs. Observations showed that solid-solid adhesion was dominant in Si-wafer, while plowing in DLC. The wear in these two materials significantly Influenced their friction. In the case of SAMs their friction behaviour was largely influenced by the nature of their molecular chains.
A lubricated state of an automobile transmission can not be inspected directly with eyes. Thus, it needs to develop a more general method. Wear debris can be collected from the lubricants of operating transmission of an automobile and its morphology is directly related to the fiction condition of the interacting materials from which the wear particles originated in lubricated transmission. In this paper, to identify the friction condition for transmission gear by neural network, the wear test of ball-on-disk type and the analysis of friction state were carried out for carburized SCM420 and nitrocarburized NT100 under different experimental conditions. The four shape parameters($50\%$ volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) of wear debris were calculated by the image processing system. They were used as input values to identify the moving condition of transmission gear by the neural network.
In general, a brake system of axle for heavy duty machine as a wheel excavator makes use of wettype multiple disk brakes. These disk bakes are very important parts of heavy duty machine because they are dvanced in durability and braking power, and can be designed compactly. Thus, we adesigned and made wettype multiple disk brakes of axle for the wheel excavator to be localization of these imported all. In this study, wet multiple disk brakes were made a comparative test with the 3 types materials of friction disk by the SAE No.2 dynamometer. The friction characteristics were measured and analyzed to decide a suitable material as wear depth of friction disk and dynamic and static friction coefficient on temperature of oil and applied pressure.
High Temperature wear behavior of plasma sprayed ZrO$_2$ and MoS$_2$, $Fe_2O_3$ coatings were investigated for high temperature wear resistance applications. The MoS$_2$, $Fe_2O_3$ added powders containing 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 mol% of $MoS_2$, $Fe_2O_3$ for plasma spray were made by spray drying method. Wear test were performed at temperature ranges from room temperature to 600$\circ$C. The microstructural change of coatings and the worn. surface were examined by SEM and XRD. In ZrO$_2$ coating, the coefficient of friction and wear amount of room temperature to 400$\circ$C was increased with temperature and decreased with temperature over 400$\circ$C. The coefficient of friction and wear amount of MoS$_2$ added coatings were increased with temperature, but those of $Fe_2O_3$ added coatings had lower coefficient of friction and higher wear resistance than ZrO$_2$ coating.
In this paper wear ratio, hardness and microstructure were experimented for study of friction wear characteristic of automotive disk brake considering running distance. In this work.4 specimens were employed for test of the friction&wear tester as a function running distance. Despite the fact that brakes must operate under a variety of environmental conditions. most research has worked in laboratory with ideal condition.
