When we deal with grouped statistical data, it is desirable to use a calculation method that gives as close value to the true value of a statistic as possible. In this paper, we suggested a new method to calculate the quantiles of grouped data. The main idea of the suggested method is calculating the data values by partitioning the pentagons, that correspond to the class intervals in the frequency polygon drawn according to the histogram, into parts with equal area. We compared this method with existing methods through simulations using some datasets from introductory statistics textbooks. In the simulation study, we simulated as many data values as given in each class interval using the inverse transform method, on the basis of the distribution that has the shape given by the frequency polygon. Using the sum of squares of differences from quantiles of the simulated data as a criterion, the suggested method was found to have better performance than existing methods for almost all quartiles and deciles.
Recently, long pulses are transmitted for target detection in active sonar application. Matched filtering implemented by simple convolution algorithm, requires massive computational power for long replica. The computational loads are reduced significantly by implementing the convolution in the frequency domain with overlap add method, but the performance degrades for specified input/output system delay which constrains the size of FFT function. For performance improvement, the replica could be partitioned into uniform blocks (FDL) by re-using IFFT operations, or variable blocks of increasing length (MC) by using the largest possible blocks to calculate the convolution. In this paper, by combining the strong points of the two methods, we propose a new filter partition structure that allows for further optimization of the previous two methods.
Dynamic textures are videos that exhibit a stationary property with respect to time (i.e., they have patterns that repeat themselves over a large number of frames). These patterns can easily be tracked by a linear dynamic system. In this paper, a model that identifies the underlying linear dynamic system using wavelet coefficients, rather than a raw sequence, is proposed. Content based threshold filtering based on Set Partitioning in a Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) helps to get another representation of the same frames that only have low frequency components. The main idea of this paper is to apply SPIHT based threshold filtering on different bands of wavelet transform so as to have more significant information in fewer parameters for singular value decomposition (SVD). In this case, more flexibility is given for the component selection, as SVD is independently applied to the different bands of frames of a dynamic texture. To minimize the time complexity, the proposed model is implemented on a graphics processing unit (GPU). Test results show that the proposed dynamic system, along with a discrete wavelet and SPIHT, achieve a highly compact model with better visual quality, than the available LDS, Fourier descriptor model, and higher-order SVD (HOSVD).

For mechanical system operating at high temperature, damage due to the interaction effect of creep and fatigue plays an important role. The objective of this paper is to develop a modified creep-fatigue damage model which separately analyzes the pure creep damage for hold time and the creep-fatigue interaction damage during startup and shutdown period. The creep damage was calculated by the general creep damage equation and the creep-fatigue interaction damage was calculated by the modified equation which is based on the frequency modified strain range method with strain rate term. In order to verify the proposed model, a service of high temperature low cycle fatigue tests were performed. The test specimens were made from inconel-718 superalloy and the test parameters were wave shape and hold time. A good agreement between the predicted lives based on the proposed model and experimentally obtained ones was observed.
This study analyzed the group of experts who were related to cubism, selected among the works of 2010~2013 Paris Collection based on F.G.R.(Focus Group Research). According to the results of this study, there were appeared first, 'a one-piece dress' second, 'H silhouette' third, 'cotton', in case of item distribution and frequency. The analysis was done by using the manner of expression, cubical expression, exaggeration, distortion, dismantlement, geometrical division of face, mix-match look, wraparound repetition, asymmetric structure, etc. Based on the outcomes of the analysis on figurative design elements, this study adjusted three manners appearing on cubism fashion style. First, it was 'avant garde manner' of constitution or 'dismantlement' which was compiled into multi-view representations of overlaps and viewpoints by repetitive use of color tone trimming detail. Second, it was 'geomagnetic block placement' which expresses cubism with geometric partitioning of surface and separation of panel by cutting disintegration. Finally, it was 'distortion and simplification of silhouette' which is a distortion created by constitution-line pressed thin with silhouette. It maximizes the beauty of human body outline, which was distorted by three-dimensional-manipulation, and simplified by ellipsis for another shape for the extension or expansion of detail trimming.

Next Generation Beyond 4G/5G systems will rely on the deployment of small cells over conventional macrocells for achieving high spectral efficiency and improved coverage performance, especially for indoor and hotspot environments. In such heterogeneous networks, the expected performance gains can only be derived with the use of efficient interference coordination schemes, such as Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR), which is very attractive for its simplicity and effectiveness. In this work, femtocells are deployed according to a spatial Poisson Point Process (PPP) over hexagonally shaped, 6-sector macro base stations (MeNBs) in an uncoordinated manner, operating in hybrid mode. A newly introduced intermediary region prevents cross-tier, cross-boundary interference and improves user equipment (UE) performance at the boundary of cell center and cell edge. With tools of stochastic geometry, an analytical framework for the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) distribution is developed to evaluate the performance of all UEs in different spatial locations, with consideration to both co-tier and cross-tier interference. Using the SINR distribution framework, average network throughput per tier is derived together with a newly proposed harmonic mean, which ensures fairness in resource allocation amongst all UEs. Finally, the FFR network parameters are optimized for maximizing average network throughput, and the harmonic mean using a fair resource assignment constraint. Numerical results verify the proposed analytical framework, and provide insights into design trade-offs between maximizing throughput and user fairness by appropriately adjusting the spatial partitioning thresholds, the spectrum allocation factor, and the femtocell density.

A very important part in vibration analysis is to calculate the frequency response function (FRF). In general, a large sized or/and complicated structure has many thousands to millions of degrees. Therefore, the FRF cannot be calculated by the traditional analysis method using an inverse matrix. This paper presents a new FRF calculation method of a superstructure by synthesizing sub-structure modes, of which the DOF can be deduced by partitioning into some sub-structures. To confirm its analysis results, the method was applied to an assembled plate ($B300{\times}L900{\times}t5mm$) with three diagonal sub-plates($B300{\times}L300{\times}t5mm$) in series and compared with the measured data. The test results have were comparable those of the calculated ones with an error less than 5%.

In this paper, we present a histogram and moment-based vidoe scencd change detection technique using hierarchical Hidden Markov Models(HMMs). The proposed method extracts histograms from a low-frequency subband and moments of edge components from high-frequency subbands of wavelet transformed images. Then each HMM is trained by using histogram difference and directional moment difference, respectively, extracted from manually labeled video. The video segmentation process consists of two steps. A histogram-based HMM is first used to segment the input video sequence into three categories: shot, cut, gradual scene changes. In the second stage, a moment-based HMM is used to further segment the gradual changes into a fade and a dissolve. The experimental results show that the proposed technique is more effective in partitioning video frames than the previous threshold-based methods.

This paper presents three dimensional structure of RF packages and the improvement effect of its electrical characteristics when implementing RF transceivers. We divided RF modules into several subunits following each subunit function based on the partitioning algorithm which suggests a method of three dimension stacking interconnection, PAA(pad area array) interconnection and stacking of three dimensional RF package structures. 224MHz ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) RF module subdivided into subunits of functional blocks of a receiver(RX), a transmitter(TX), a phase locked loop(PLL) and power(PWR) unit, simultaneously meeting the requirements of impedance characteristic and system stability. Each subfunctional unit has its own frequency region of 224MHz, 21.4MHz, and 450KHz~DC. The signal gain of receiver and transmitter unit showed 18.9㏈, 23.9㏈. PLL and PWR modules also provided stable phase locking, constant voltages which agree with design specifications and maximize their characteristics. The RF module of three dimension stacking structure showed $48cm^3$, 76.9% reduction in volume and 4.8cm, 28.4% in net length, 41.8$^{\circ}C$, 37% in maximum operating temperature, respectively. We have found that three dimensional PAA package structure is able to produce high speed, high density, low power characteristics and to improve its functional characteristics by subdividing RF modules according to the subunit function and the operating frequency, and the features of physical volume, electrical characteristics, and thermal conditions compared to two dimensional RF circuit modules.
Regional rainfall quantile depends on the identification of hydrologically homogeneous regions. Various variables relevant to precipitation can be used to form regions. Since the type and number of variables may lead to improve the efficiency of partitioning, it is important to select those precipitation related variables, which represent most of the information from all candidate variables. Multivariate analysis techniques can be used for this purpose. Procrustes analysis which can decrease the dimension of variables based on their correlations, are applied in this study. 42 rainfall related variables are decreased into 21 ones by Procrustes analysis. Factor analysis is applied to those selected variables and then 5 factors are extracted. Fuzzy-c means technique classifies 68 stations into 6 regions. As a result, the GEV distributions are fitted to 6 regions while the lognormal and generalized logistic distributions are fitted to 5 regions. For the comparison purpose with previous results, rainfall quantiles based on generalized logistic distribution are estimated by at-site frequency analysis, index flood method, and regional shape estimation method.
