  • This paper is described the stability and optimization according to each load of induction heating system for using half-bridge high-frequency series resonant inverter. Each metallic package is inserted into the ceramic type vessel with external working coil. This working coil is connected to the resonant inverter. It evaluates performance and stability of this system according to metallic package.

  • This study introduces a new topology optimization scheme combing the genetic algorithm (GA) with the on/off sensitivity method for the magnetic actuator core and the armature design. The design process intended to maximize the first eigen-frequency of the armature part and the magnetic actuating force acting on the armature simultaneously. GA based optimal design was carried out to obtain the initial structure and the modified on/off sensitivity method was succeeded to accelerate the design process. Final results show tens of percent improvement in actuating force as well as the first eigen-frequency of the armature.

  • The evaluation of simulation models against ADS-33 quantitative rotorcraft handling qualities metrics has, in the past, been a time consuming effort, involving many individual analyses in both the time and frequency domains. Manual tuning of control system parameters to meet handling qualities and performance specifications has been cumbersome and complicated. Performing rigorous trade-off studies for numerous variations in the control system is too time consuming to be practicable. With the complex interaction of time- and frequency based specifications for the closed- and broken-loop responses, it is difficult to know if the design makes the most effective use of the available control power. The Control Designer's Unified Interface (CONDUIT) software makes possible rapid optimization and trade-offs of design configurations against handling qualities specifications.

  • Extremely-Low-Frequency(ELF) magnetic fields are generated around power cables and bus bars in power systems. Such the stray fields may cause disturbances to nearby electronic apparatus and affect even human health. In order to seeking out a proper way to reducing the fields, the first thing to do is to accurately predict field distribution around analysis models of interest. Then, optimization techniques should be applied for finding a more improved design than the initial one. To achieve this goal, commercial electromagnetic software, MagNet, is combined with evolution strategy algorithm. For verification of the proposed method, three-phase power line cables and busbar systems have been tested.

  • Substructures position is considered as design parameter to obtain optimal structural changes to raise its dynamic characteristics. In conventional SDM (structural dynamics modification) method, the layout of modifying substructures position is first fixed and at that condition the structural optimization is performed by using the substructures size and/or material property as design parameters. But in this paper as a design variable substructures global translational and rotational position is treated. For effective structural modification the eigenvalue sensitivity with respect to that design parameter is derived based on measured frequency response function. The optimal structural modification is calculated by combining eigenvalue sensitivities and eigenvalue reanalysis technique iteratively. Numerical examples are presented to the case of beam stiffener optimization to raise the natural frequency of plate.

An integrated optimal design of energy dissipation structures under wind loads considering SSI effect

  • This paper provides a simple numerical method to determine the optimal parameters of tuned mass damper (TMD) and viscoelastic dampers (VEDs) in frame structure for wind vibration control considering the soil-structure interation (SSI) effect in frequency domain. Firstly, the numerical model of frame structure equipped with TMD and VEDs considering SSI effect is established in frequency domain. Then, the genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to obtain the optimal parameters of VEDs and TMD. The optimization process is demonstrated by a 20-storey frame structure supported by pile group for different soil conditions. Two wind resistant systems are considered in the analysis, the Structure-TMD system and the Structure-TMD-VEDs system. The example proves that this method can quickly determine the optimal parameters of energy dissipation devices compared with the traditional finite element method, thus is practically valuable.

Improved Attenuation Estimation of Ultrasonic Signals Using Frequency Compounding Method

  • Ultrasonic attenuation is an important parameter in Quantitative Ultrasound and many algorithms have been proposed to improve estimation accuracy and repeatability for multiple independent estimates. In this work, we propose an improved algorithm for estimating ultrasonic attenuation utilizing the optimal frequency compounding technique based on stochastic noise model. We formulate mathematical compounding equations in the AWGN channel model and solve optimization problems to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio for multiple frequency components. Individual estimates are calculated by the reference phantom method which provides very stable results in uniformly attenuating regions. We also propose the guideline to select frequency ranges of reflected RF signals. Simulation results using numerical phantoms show that the proposed optimal frequency compounding method provides improved accuracy while minimizing estimation bias. The estimation variance is reduced by only 16% for the un-compounding case, whereas it is reduced by 68% for the uniformly compounding case. The frequency range corresponding to the half-power for reflected signals also provides robust and efficient estimation performance.

An Accurate Design Method of Wideband BPF Considering Frequency Dependence of Inverters

  • This paper presents a design method for a wideband bandpass filter (BPF) which compensates for frequency dependency based on the image admittance and image phase. In the proposed method, new compensation methods for the admittance and phase are integrated with the conventional method. The proposed method improves the frequency shift and reduces the unwanted bandwidth when designing more than 20% of the Fractional Bandwidth (FBW), whereas the conventional method exhibits frequency degradation at only 10% FBW. The proposed design theory was verified by applying it to both lumped elements and distributed lines through circuit simulation and measurements without an optimization process. The measurement results demonstrate improvements in the frequency shift and target bandwidth. In the future, an accurate design method based on frequency dependence can be implemented for the next-generation broadband communication system applications.
