  • This research studied the utilization of the bed log wastes as a papermaking grade pulp. Five different bed log samples from shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Sing) cultivation were collected by the cultivating periods of 1 to 5 years. The wood chemical composition and the characteristics of kraft pulping of each sample were investigated. The results of chemical composition showed that the rate of carbohydrate (glucose and xylose) content in sapwood was decreased as the cultivation period was increased. In heartwood, there was no significant difference. The screening yield of non-cultivated bed log from kraft pulping was higher than that of cultivated one, but the reject of cultivated one, especially for 5 year-cultivated, was lower than non-cultivated bed log. The fiber length and width was continuously decreased as the cultivation period was increased. Therefore, the freeness of the pulp from the cultivated bed log was sharply decreased comparing to non-cultivated due to the fiber cutting and the increased fine content. The dry strengths were increased according to the increasing addition level of bed log kraft pulp to KOCC and non-cultivated wood pulp. From the overall results, the pulp from 5 years cultivated bed log can be reasonably used if it is mixed with long fiber pulp for advantages such as reducing beating time.

  • Kudzu vine (Pueraria lobata) is a perennial plant and spreads all around in South Korea. Recently the use of leaves, stems and roots of kudzu vine has been investigated in many fields. However, the research on kudzu fibers has not been performed in korean pulp and paper industry. As the stems and roots of kudzu were estimated to contain cellulosic fibers, the possibility of producing a raw material from kudzu fibers in pulp and paper mills was investigated in this study. The stems and roots of kudzu were collected in woods, and then the chemical composition and ash contents was measured. To acquire kudzu pulp, kraft pulping and bleaching of kudzu roots were carried out sequently. After making kudzu pulp, freeness and fiber length were measured, and handsheets was also prepared with kudzu pulp and the properties of handsheets were determined. Consequently, kudzu fibers have lower holocellulose contents than wood fibers and other non-wood fibers. Average fiber length is shorter than that of Sw-BKP, but shows the same level as that of Hw-BKP. The handsheet made from kudzu pulp shows the bulkier structure than those made from Hw-BKP and Sw-BKP.

  • In this study, we evaluated properties of pulp treated with swelling agent and swelling concentration. We used swelling agent, such as NaOH, DMSO, urea. One of them, pulps treated with NaOH from 0 to 5% measured WRV, beating efficiency, crystallinity and aspect ratio. We identified that NaOH when freeness reaches 100mL CSF was the shortest, on the other hand, WRV didn't change. Because NaOH is good beating efficiency, when pulp treated with various concentration of NaOH from 0 to 5%, pulp treated 1% NaOH was best beating efficiency. However, WRV, crystalline structure and crystallinity didn't change. The more NaOH concentration increased, the more aspect ratio increased, but when NaOH concentration exceeds 3%, aspect ratio decreased. As a result, pulp treated with 1% NaOH was the greatest beating efficiency and WRV, chemical structure didn't change.

  • The kind and the mixing ratio of recovered papers would affect the quality of final recycled paper. In this study, effects of the mixing ratio of various domestic recycled papers (old news print (ONP), old corrugated container (OCC) and coated paper (CP)) on variations in physical properties of paper and its productivity were investigated. When the mixing ratio of CP grade increased, the freeness (CSF) of recycled pulp was increased while paper strength and white water turbidity was decreased. Paper strength was decreased as the percentage of OCC was higher than ONP. When ONP was mixed with OCC, no adverse effect was observed except the increased drainage resistance. It is expected that these results could be utilized as fundamental data to establish regulations for the recovered paper grades according to mixing ratios of different kinds of them.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine modern people's lifestyle and identify their needs by analyzing clothing behavior through city nomads' attitudes in dairy life, tastes, and methods to pursue in their life. This study tries to understand substitute values as ethical life emerging recently, free life style of mental emotion, clothing behaviors, and fashion style represented by the results. Upon observing city nomads' fashion trend, tunics symbolizing flexibility and comfort and simultaneously reflect colors in a monk style or from basic items that have been used. City nomads' fashion trend also reveals androgynous freeness-and-easiness. City nomads reflect a folksy inspiration, and different cultural perspectives appear in a mixed fashion. Multi-purpose gypsy/boho style is ideal for traveling and occupying smaller spaces in line with the nomadic lifestyle reflectings an American casual image partially by way of gypsy or bohemian nuances. Motorcycle jeans symbolizing functionality for traveling are becoming a part of everyday life. The fashions discussed are categorized as urban, tourer, sports and road. Everyday sportswear - athleisure - is attracting attention enabling a healthy and sound lifestyle. Athleisure is fashion wear harmonizing workplace with leisure, and everyday life and social gatherings. Athleisure represents a significant collapse of the boundary of high fashion and street fashion. Urban- tech wear is light and enables modern people to perform garment and gear functions simultaneously, making storage useful using various technical devices by elevating activity and functionality. Urban outdoor fashion holding functionality and adding modern fashion in appearance has appeared.

  • In order to improve voters' reliability in electronic voting system, voter verifiable receipt technique is being actively researched. Since the receipt should be verifiable not only inside but also outside a polling place, it satisfies the requirements, individual verifiability and receipt-freeness. In the previous researches, there are some problems that special paper and printer is necessary or frequent monitoring is needed to confirm the voting machine's trustworthiness. In this paper, we propose a new receipt issuing scheme. Our scheme does not require any special equipments such as special paper and printer or optical scanner. In addition to that it does not require voters to trust any devices in the polling station and there is no need of frequent observations to the voting machines.

  • Three fiber sources including Russian spruce (Picea jezoensis) and larix (Larix leptolepis), and Myanmar bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides) for thermomechanical pulp were explored to replace domestic pine (Pinus densiflora) pulp that has some limitations in an aspect of supply and pitch trouble. Thermomechanical pulps were manufactured under the identical condition, and then compared with their representative pulp properties and pulping process. Both Russian larix and Myanmar bamboo contained large amounts of extractives that would negatively affect mechanical pulping processes. Russian spruce showed the least contents in shives and pitch. Russian spruce and domestic pine reached an optimum freeness level within a short pulp processing time, which consumed less amount of refining energy compared to larix and bamboo. In particular, the spruce wood showed the highest brightness level which might lead to a less consumption of bleaching chemicals. It was expected that Russian spruce could be replaced with the domestic pine wood in respect of both pulping process and pulp quality.
