  • Since containment building is the major shielding structure to ensure safety of nuclear power plant, the structural behavior and ultimate pressure capacity of containments must be studied in depth. This paper addresses ambiguous issue of determining free-field position for liner failure by suggesting an expanded free-field region and comparing internal pressure capacities obtained by test data, conservative assumption and suggested free-field region. For this purpose, a practical approach to determine the free-field position for the evaluation of liner tearing is carried out. The maximum principal strain histories versus internal pressure capacities among different free-field positions at various azimuths and elevations are compared with those at the equipment hatch as a conservative assumption. The comparison shows that there are considerable differences in the internal pressure capacity at liner failure within the expanded free-field region compared to the vicinity of the equipment hatch. Additionally, this study proposes an approximate correlation with conservative factors by considering the expanded free-field ranges and material characteristics to determine realistic failure criteria for liner. The applicability of the proposed correlation is demonstrated by comparing the internal pressure capacities of full-scale containment buildings following liner failure criteria according to RG 1.216 and an approximate correlation.

  • Time Stretched Pulse (TSP) is used for transmitting and analyzing the impulse signal over the designated spatial place. However, if transfer functions of transmitter and receiver are unknown, performance investigation of free field in temporal domain is barely possible due to the overlap between the direct and indirect signal from the space. Generally, the free field or hemi-free field is evaluated by the Annex A of ISO 3745 in which utilizing the inverse square law with one-third octave band signals. In this paper, the author performs analysis of free field via applying TSP with inverse square law and the results are compared with the one-third octave band signals. According to the analysis of deviation between the corresponding signal and inverse square law model, the proposed TSP method provides the comparable performance index to the one-third octave band signal with reduced measuring time. Provided that the pre-whitening can be implementable by employing the speaker and microphone transfer function, further analyses from TSP compression are able to be performed such as multipath separation from time domain data. The anechoic chamber used in this experiment is verified conformance with ISO 3745 for free field and hemi-free field condition for limited frequency of the signal.

  • The anechoic chamber is essential tool to measure the various acoustic parameters with high precision. The chamber provides the climate controlled indoor environments but requires the dedicated room at a great cost in order to isolate and absorb sound field. Provided the purpose of the chamber is specific to the experiments of sound localization, the performance requirements excluding free field can be alleviated for cost effective solution. This paper designs low cost and profile anechoic chamber based on acoustic pyramids and evaluates the performance specified by the Annex of ISO 3745. Data analysis is employed to measure the free and hemi-free field performance over five straight paths for working areas and four paths for non-working areas. The identical two measurement campaigns were conducted for free and hemi-free field chamber which is easily interchangeable by simple labor in this chamber design. In the working area with conventional speaker, the results of these analyses demonstrate that lab-designed anechoic chamber is in conformance with ISO 3745 for 250 Hz - 16 kHz one-third octave band at free field chamber and for 1 kHz - 16 kHz one-third octave band at hemi-free field chamber.

  • Let X be a divergence-free vector field defined on a closed, connected Riemannian manifold. In this paper, we show the equivalence between the following conditions: ${\bullet}$ X is a divergence-free vector field satisfying the shadowing property. ${\bullet}$ X is a divergence-free vector field satisfying the Lipschitz shadowing property. ${\bullet}$ X is an expansive divergence-free vector field. ${\bullet}$ X has no singularities and is Anosov.

  • The properties of a scale-free network are little known; its node degree following a power-law distribution is among its few known properties. By selecting real-field scale-free networks from a network dataset and comparing them to other networks, such as random and non-scale-free networks, the topology characteristics of scale-free networks are identified. The assortative coefficient is identified as a key metric of a scale-free network. It is also identified that most scale-free networks have negative assortative coefficients. Traditional generation models of scale-free networks are evaluated based on the identified topology characteristics. Most representative models, such as BA and Holme&Kim, are not effective in generating real-field scale-free networks. A link-rewiring method is suggested that can control the assortative coefficient while preserving the node degree sequence. Our analysis reveals that it is possible to effectively reproduce the assortative coefficients of real-field scale-free networks through link-rewiring.

  • We propose a new type of spin torque nano-oscillator structure with an exchange- biased free rotating layer. The proposed spin torque nano-oscillator consists of a fixed layer and a free rotating layer with an additional anti-ferromagnetic layer, which leads to an exchange bias in the free rotating layer. The spin dynamics of the exchange-biased free rotating layer can be described as an additional exchange field because the exchange bias manifests itself by the existance of a finite exchange bias field. The exchange bias field plays a similar role to that of a finite external field. Hence, microwave generation can be achieved without an external field in the proposed structure.

  • We describe modified Fowler-Nordheim (FN) field emission equation for the free-standing nanomembrane cathode, which has mechanical degrees of freedom. The derived FN equation agrees well with the experimental data. The free-standing nanomambrane cathode demonstrates its unique ability to detect large biomolecure ions.

  • Superior performance of field consistent eight-node hexahedron element in static bending problems has already been demonstrated in literature. In this paper, its performance in free vibration is investigated. Free vibration frequencies of typical test problems have been computed using this element. The results establish its superior performance in free vibration, particularly in thin plate application and near incompressibility regimes, demonstrating that shear locking, Poisson's stiffening and volumetric locking have been eliminated.

• Using micro-wells on the Mo substrate, we could obtain various tubular-volcano-types of free-standing diamond field emitters by depositing a diamond film detaching the film and turning the film upside down. The field emission characteristics of these structures were investigated as a function of size, shape and the number density of the tubular-volcano-type diamond field emitters. The field emission characteristics, especially the current density, were greatly enhanced with increasing the number density of the tubular-volcano-type diamond field emitters on the Mo substrate. Based on these results, we suggest that the reduction of the well size can give better field emission characteristics by the increase in the number density of the tubular-volcano-type diamond field emitters. Finally, we suggest the feasibility of fabricating a large-area field emission display using our patterned tubular-volcano-type free-standing diamond field emitters.
