Let p be a prime. A group G is said to be residually p-finite if for each non-trivial element x of G, there exists a normal subgroup N of index a power of p in G such that x is not in N. In this note we shall prove that certain HNN extensions of free abelian groups of finite rank are residually p-finite. In addition some of these HNN extensions are subgroup separable. Characterisations for certain one-relator groups and similar groups including the Baumslag-Solitar groups to be residually p-finite are proved.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of living condition and aging on food intake in Korea. 98 free-meal receivers and 81 members in well-being center for the aged were asked about their food frequency and food consumption and their socioeconomic status by a questionnaire. All data were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences) 10.0 program. There were statistical differences of living condition, marital status, former job and teeth status between free-meal receivers and people with stable lives. Moreover, all age groups of free-meal receivers had lower income, living expenses, educational period and frequency of physical activity than those of people with stable lives. But smoking and drinking was much higher in free-meal receivers. Arthritis was the most prevalent disease in both groups. And free-meal receivers had higher blood pressure and lower Body Mass Index than people with stable lives. Food consumption of free-meal receivers was definitely lower than that of people with stable lives in terms of food frequency and standard amount of food eaten. But noodles, bean sprouts and eggs were very important foods for free-meal receives. Food consumption of the aged was affected by age, educational period, income, blood pressure, duration after retirement, frequency of physical activity and Body Mass Index. Therefore, as various socioeconomic status affects on food intakes of the aged, more effective and practical nutritional programs which consider the receivers'socioeconomic status are needed for the nutritionally at-risk groups like the aging free-meal receivers.
For the investigation to the effects of H. cordata on prevention of hypercholesteromia, dietary hypercholesteromic rats were fed for 4 weeks with basial diet containing 5, 10, 15, 20% H. cordata powder, 5, 10 and 15% H. cordata juice. Total cholesterol and triglyceride contents of livers were significantly lower in experimental groups than in control group. Phospholipid contents in livers were not significant difference between control and experimental groups. Contents of free cholesterol in livers were ranged from 0.4$\pm$0.2 to 0.7$\pm$0.5mg/kg and cholesteryl ester contents were lower in H. cordata juice added groups than H. cordata powder added groups. Total cholesterol content in brains were not significant difference between cholesterol not added, H. cordata powder added at 15, 20% and its juice added group at 15%. The more powder and juice of H. cordata were added to basial diets, the lower contents of triglyceride and phospholipid were detected in brains. Contents of free cholesterol and cholesteryl ester in brains were not significance in all experimental groups. In kidneys, total cholesterol contents were not significant in control group and H. cordata powder of 5% was added group. Triglyceride, phospholipid and cholesteryl ester contents in kidney were not significant in all groups. Contents of free cholesterol in kidney were equally significant between cholesterol free and 15% H. cordata juice treated group.

In this note, we shall show that the generalized free products of subgroup separable groups amalgamating a subgroup which itself is a finite extension of a finitely generated normal subgroup of both the factor groups are weakly potent and cyclic subgroup separable. Then we apply our result to generalized free products of finite extensions of finitely generated torsion-free nilpotent groups. Finally, we shall show that their tree products are cyclic subgroup separable.
This study were performed to investigate effect of dietary cadmium(Cd) and protein levels on growth, body protein metabolism and Cd toxicity in growing rats. Forty eight male rats of Sprague-Dawley weighing 113$\pm$2g were blocked into 6 groups accoridng to body weight. Dietary protein were given at the levels of 7, 15 and 40% of diet and Cd (200ppm)were either added or not. The result obtained were summerized as follow; 1) Food intake, weight gain, FER PER, liver and kidney weight, weight and length of bones, hematocrit, and hemoglobin content in Cd-added groups were low than those in Cd-free groups. 2) Serum total protein showed no significant difference with Cd addition, but it was significantly lower in low protein diet groups. Liver protein in Cd-added groups was lower than Cd-free groups, and was tend to be increased with increasing dietary protein level. 3) Daily urinary and fecal nitrogen excretions in Cd-added groups were lower than Cd-free groups, and were increased with increasing dietary protein level. 4) Cadmium contents in blood, liver, kidney, and femur were tend to be decreased with increasing dietary protein level. Especially, Cd content in kidney of Cd-added groups was significantly decreased with increasing dietary protein level. 5) Daily urinary and fecal Cd excretions were tend to be increased with increasing dietary protein level, and Cd-added-high protein diet group showed the highest Cd excretion among the Cd-added groups, Cd absorption ration and Cd retention ratio were tend to be decreased with increasing dietary protein level.
The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary protein and magnesium levels on calcium and magnesium metabolism in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Forty-eight male rats(average weight, 210g) divided into six diet groups; protein 8% and Mg-free diet, protein 8% and Mg 400mg/kg diet, protein 8% and Mg 900mg/kg diet, protein 20% and Mg-free diet, protein 20% nd Mg 400mg/kg diet, and protein 20% and Mg 800mg/kg diet group. After the rats were fed with experimental diets concentration were examined. Kidney weight was significantly higher in protein 8% and Mg-free group compared with other groups. Serum calcium concentration of protein8% group tended to decrease with the increase of the level of magnesium. Serum magnesium concentration in protein 8% and 20% group was lower in Mg-free group than that in other groups(p<0.05) and it also increased as the dietary magnesium level was increased. Urinary calcium and magnesium concentration in Mg-free group were significantly lower than those of other groups.
CAT(0) cubical complexes are a key to formulate geodesic spaces with nonpositive curvatures. The paper discusses the median structure of CAT90) cubical complexes. Especially, the underlying graph of a CAT(0) cubical complex is a median graph. Using the idea of median structure, this paper shows that groups acting on median complexes L(${\delta}$) groups and, in addition, work L(0) groups are closed under free product.
We study free actions of finite abelian groups on 3dimensional nilmanifolds. By the works of Bieberbach and Waldhausen, this classification problem is reduced to classifying all normal nilpotent subgroups of almost Bieberbach groups of finite index, up to affine conjugacy. All such actions are completely classified.
Background: To evaluate whether ABO-Rh blood groups have significance in the treatment response and prognosis in patients with non-metastatic breast cancer. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated files of 335 patients with breast cancer who were treated between 2005 and 2010. Demographic data, clinic-pathological findings, treatments employed, treatment response, and overall and disease-free survivals were reviewed. Relationships between clinic-pathological findings and blood groups were evaluated. Results: 329 women and 6 men were included to the study. Mean age at diagnosis was 55.2 years (range: 26-86). Of the cases, 95% received chemotherapy while 70% were given radiotherapy and 60.9% adjuvant hormone therapy after surgery. Some 63.0% were A blood group, 17.6% O, 14.3% B and 5.1% AB. In addition, 82.0% of the cases were Rh-positive. Mean follow-up was 24.5 months. Median overall and progression-free survival times were 83.9 and 79.5 months, respectively. Overall and disease-free survival times were found to be higher in patients with A and O blood groups (p<0.05). However rates did not differ with the Rh-positive group (p=0.226). In univariate and multivariate analyses, ABO blood groups were identified as factors that had significant effects on overall and disease-survival times (p=0.011 and p=0.002). Conclusions: It was seen that overall and disease-free survival times were higher in breast cancer patients with A and O blood groups when compared to those with other blood groups. It was seen that A and O blood groups had good prognostic value in patients with breast cancer.
