  • In this paper, stability of initial strength at solder joint with lead free solders, such as Sn-In (52-48%) and Sn-Ag (96.5-3.5wt%) was studied. To obtain at solder joint with high quality, it is very important to control the temperature at the interface of solder joints. It is found that the thermal EMF (electro motive force) occurs betwee lead frame and copper pad on a substrate during reflow soldering process using heated tip. As a result of control the temperature at interface of solder joints, variation of initial strength at solder joint decreases from about $\pm40%$ to $\pm20%$, and it is realized Pb free soldering process using Sn/In and Sn-Ag solder paste.

  • Bucket trajectory is crucial regarding precision work with an excavator. In general, the bucket trajectory deviation is determined by the machining deviation of the frame, driving deviation of the driving hydraulic cylinder, clearance in the joints, and deformation of the structure. This paper investigated the relationship between the respective clearance in joints and the trajectory deviation of the bucket at the finishing work of the ditching for a 20-ton excavator. As a result, the larger the clearance, the larger deviation is increased at trajectory. However, it was found that the deviation of the rotation angle and displacement of the bucket was limited and the size of clearance does not affect closely on the contact angle of the pin shaft.

  • A basic assumption in the current design and analysis of reinforced concrete(RC) box structures, which are constructed by the open cut and fill method, is that the displacements and forces are uniform in the longitudinal direction of the structure. The solution may be therefore obtatined from the analysis of a unit wide strip along longitudinal axis. This strip is said to be in a plane strain condition, meaning that the out of plane deformations are vanished. The current design of box structure is carried out by the result of planar frame model for the sake of simplicity. The purpose of this study is to show more rational design method of box culverts considering a rigid zone of corner joints. The current analysis of box structures will be compared with the plane strain analysis as well as 3-d shell model. Reinforcement quantity is also determined to resist the tensile force in corner joints of box structures using strut-tie model which has been developed through the elastic analysis.

  • An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)-based Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) can calculate attitude and heading information with long-term accuracy and stability by combining gyro, accelerometer, and magnetic compass signals. Motivated by this characteristic of the AHRS, this paper presents a Motion-Tracking and Localization (MTL) method for a person or walking robot using multi-AHRSs. Five AHRSs are attached to the two calves, two thighs, and waist of a person/walking robot. Joints, links, and coordinate frames are defined on the body. The outputs of the AHRSs are integrated with link data. In addition, a supporting foot is distinguished from a moving foot. With this information, the locations of the joints on the local coordinate frame are calculated. The experimental results show that the presented MTL method can track the motion of and localize a person/walking robot with long-term accuracy in an infra-less environment.

  • The main subject of this study is the construction of an automatic welding system that has the capability to trace the weld seam in GMA welding of lap joints. The system was composed of a vision sensor, moving torch, and personal computer(IBM-PC). In the developed vision sensor, an image was captured by the frame grabber at the time of short circuit during welding. The threshold method was adopted for determining the structured light and the central difference method for detecting the weld joint. And the seam tracing of the torch was performed by using the data regeneration algorithm. In this system using the image at the time of short circuit, weld seam tracking was performed without any relations to arc light and spatters.

  • The welding deformation and its prediction method at the HAZ (Heat-Affected Zone) are presented in this paper. The inherent strain method is well known as analytical method to predict welding deformation of large scale welded structure. Depend on the size of welding deformation in welding joints, the fatigue life, the stress concentration factor and the manufacturing quality of welded structure are decided. Many welded joints and its manufacturing control techniques are also required to railway rolling stock and its structural parts such as railway carbody and bogie frame. Proposed methods in this paper focus on the two different the inherent strain area at HAZ. This is main idea of proposed method and it makes more reliable result of welding deformation analysis at the HAZ.

  • Recent earthquakes have demonstrated that even when the beams and columns in a reinforced concrete frame remain intact, the integrity of the whole structure is undermined if the joint where these members connect fails. A good seismic performance of reinforced concrete frames depends on their ability to absorb seismic energy through inelastic deformations and to avoid a sudden development of collapse mechanism in event of a strong earthquake shaking. The primary objective of this investigation is to move the plastic hinge away from the beam-column joint region and hence reducing the damage to the joint region. In this research, the seismic performance of exterior beam-column joints with four types of confinement in joint region and inclined bars from column to beam is investigated experimentally. Control specimens without inclined bars and four types of confinement Square Hoop, Square Spiral, Circular Hoop and Circular Spiral were tested along with inclined bars were tested. Seismic performance was determined via load-deflection response, ductility, stiffness, energy dissipation, strain of beam reinforcement and crack pattern. Out of the four specimens with inclined bars, seismic performance of joint with Square Spiral confinement gave the best performance in terms of all parameters.

  • This paper describes an application of wavelet analysis for damage detection of a steel frame structure with bolted connections. The wavelet coefficients of the acceleration response for the healthy and loosened connection structure were calculated at each measurement point. The difference of the wavelet coefficients of the response of the healthy and loosened connection structure is selected as an indicator of the damage. At each node of structure the norm of the difference of the wavelet coefficients matrix is then calculated. The point for which the norm has the higher value is a candidate for location of the damage. The above procedure was experimentally verified on a laboratory-scale 2-meter-long steel frame. The structure consists of 11 steel beams forming a four-bay frame, which is subjected to impact loads using a modal hammer. The accelerations are measured at 20 different locations on the frame, including joints and beam elements. Two states of the structure are considered: healthy and damaged one. The damage is introduced by means of loosening two out of three bolts at one of the frame connections. Calculating the norm of the difference of the wavelet coefficients matrix at each node the higher value was found to be at the same location where the bolts were loosened. The presented experiment showed the effectiveness of the wavelet approach to damage detection of frame structures assembled using bolted connections.

  • The microstructure, wettability, shear strength and aging effect of Sn-3.5Ag/Cu and Alloy42 lead-frame solder joints were measured for comparison. In the case of Sn-3.5Ag/Cu, $Ag_3Sn and Cu_6Sn_5$ phases in the matrix Sn and $1~2\mu\textrm{m}$ thick $Cu_6Sn_5$ phase at the interface of solder/lead-frame were formed. In the case of Sn-3.5Agl Alloy42, only AgJSn phase of low density in the matrix Sn and $0.5~1.5\mu\textrm{m}$ thick $FeSn_2$, phase at the interface of solder/leadframe were formed. Comparing to Cu, Alloy42 showed wider area of spread and smaller contact angle, thus better wettability. But shear strength and ductility of Alloy 42 solder joints were only 33% and 75% of those of Cu, respectively After aging at $180^{\circ}C$ for 1 week, $\xi-Cu_3Sn$ layer on $\eta-Cu_6Sn_5$ layer was formed on Cu lead-frame, while coarsened circular $Ag_3Sn$ phase in the matrix and thickened $FeSn_2$, at the interface were formed on Alloy42 lead- frame.

  • In this study, specimens of rigid frame joint were produced by integrating joints with adhesive and other specimens were produced by inserting a wooden gusset integrated with a column member into a slit-processed beam member and joining them with pins. Then the moment resistance performances of the specimens were examined. For the wooden gusset, a GFRP-reinforced wooden gusset was used. The calculation results of perfect elasto-plasticity for the frame specimens for which a GFRP-reinforced wooden gusset was inserted into and joined with the slit-processed beam member by pins were 20-80% lower compared to the control group which consisted of steel plate-inserted frame specimens. The rigid frame specimens for which the column and beam members have been integrated with adhesive showed almost no initial residual transformations, as well as 38% greater initial rigidity and 41% greater plasticity compared to the steel plate-inserted joint.
