  • Resonance of the bridge can be occurred with the coincidence between a natural frequency of the bridge and a crossing frequency of moving loads which is determined from the speed and effective beating interval of the vehicle. In case of the railway bridge, the effective beating interval of the vehicle is fixed under the passage of specific trains. In the present study, resonance and cancellation of the bridge subjected to moving high-speed train are analyzed with the variations of span length. A steel-concrete composite railway bridge is idealized by the combinations of plate elements and space frame elements. High-speed train is idealized with moving constant forces and a 3-dimensional full modelling. From analyzing dynamic responses of D.M.F of vertical displacement, maximum vertical acceleration of the slab, and end rotation according to the variations of span length of the bridge, design criteria of span length of the bridge which satisfies dynamic safety is discussed.

  • The optimum design of base isolation system considering model parameter uncertainty is usually performed by using the unconditional response of structure obtained by the total probability theory, as the performance index. Though, the probabilistic approach is powerful, it cannot be applied when the maximum possible ranges of variations are known and can be only modelled as uncertain but bounded type. In such cases, the interval analysis method is a viable alternative. The present study focuses on the bounded optimization of base isolation system to mitigate the seismic vibration effect of structures characterized by bounded type system parameters. With this intention in view, the conditional stochastic response quantities are obtained in random vibration framework using the state space formulation. Subsequently, with the aid of matrix perturbation theory using first order Taylor series expansion of dynamic response function and its interval extension, the vibration control problem is transformed to appropriate deterministic optimization problems correspond to a lower bound and upper bound optimum solutions. A lead rubber bearing isolating a multi-storeyed building frame is considered for numerical study to elucidate the proposed bounded optimization procedure and the optimum performance of the isolation system.

  • In this paper, we propose an interference cancellation(IC) scheme using a partial Rake(PRAKE) combining in ultra-wideband(UWB) multipath fading channels. In this IC scheme, differently from the conventional transmitter model, which employs a guard interval between each frame, the guard interval is employed between each slot for estimating the multiple access interference(MAI). The UWB systems using the proposed IC scheme have little performance degradation without regard to the number of user, while the conventional UWB systems have a significant performance degradation according to the number of user. In order to reduce the receiver complexity, the PRAKE combining of post-canceled signal and the partial user IC scheme are also proposed.

  • Video scene segmentation is fundamental role for content based video analysis and many kinds of scene segmentation schemes have been proposed in previous researches. However, there is a problem, which is to find optimal threshold value according to various kinds of movies and its content because only fixed single threshold value usually used for cut detection. In this paper, we proposed the variable dynamic threshold method, which change the threshold value by a probability distribution of cut detection interval and information of frame feature differences and cut detection interval in previous cut detection is used to determine the next cut detection. For this, we present a cut detection algorithm and a parameter generation method to change the threshold value in runtime. We also show the proposed method, which can minimize fault alarm rate than the existing methods efficiently by experimental results.

  • In this paper, a new temporal decomposition method is proposed. which takes into consideration not only spectral distortion but also bit rates. The interpolation functions, which are one of necessary parameters for temporal decomposition, are obtained from the training speech corpus. Since the interval between the two targets uniquely defines the interpolation function, the interpolation can be represented without additional information. The locations of the targets are determined by minimizing the bit rates while the maximum spectral distortion maintains below a given threshold. The proposed method has been applied to compressing the LSP coefficients which are widely used as a spectral parameter. The results of the simulation show that an average spectral distortion of about 1.4 dB can be achieved at an average bit rate of about 8 bits/Frame.

  • In this paper, we propose packet selection and significance based interval allocation algorithm for real-time streaming service. In real-time streaming of inter-frame (and layer) coded video, minimizing packet loss does not imply maximizing QoS. It is true that packet loss adversely affects the QoS but one single packet can have more impact than several other packets. We exploit the fact that the significance of each packet loss is different from the frame type it belongs to and its position within GoP. Using packet dependency and PSNR degradation value imposed on the video from the corresponding packet loss, we find each packet's significance value. Based on the packet significance, the proposed algorithm determines which packets to send and when to send them. The proposed algorithm is tested using publicly available MPEG-4 video traces. Our scheduling algorithm brings significant improvement on user perceivable QoS. We foresee that the proposed algorithm manifests itself in last mile connection of the network where intervals between successive packets from the source and to the destination are well preserved.

  • In this article the seismic demand and performance of two recent braced steel frames named steel moment frames with the elliptic bracing (ELBRFs) are assessed through a laboratory program and numerical analyses of FEM. Here, one of the specimens is without connecting bracket from the corner of the frame to the elliptic brace (ELBRF-E), while the other is with the connecting brackets (ELBRF-B). In both the elliptic braced moment resisting frames (ELBRFs), in addition to not having any opening space problem in the bracing systems when installed in the surrounding frames, they improve structure's behavior. The experimental test is run on ½ scale single-story single-bay ELBRF specimens under cyclic quasi-static loading and compared with X-bracing and SMRF systems in one story base model. This system is of appropriate stiffness and a high ductility, with an increased response modification factor. Moreover, its energy dissipation is high. In the ELBRF bracing systems, there exists a great interval between relative deformation at the yield point and maximum relative deformation after entering the plastic region. In other words, the distance from the first plastic hinge to the collapse of the structure is fairly large. The experimental outcomes here, are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

  • The pipe framed and arch shape plastic greenhouse, which is the most popular greenhouse in Korea, is relatively weak in snowdrift. Reinforcement of rigid frame or column is required to reduce the damage from heavy snow in this type. But additional rigid frames or columns decrease light transmissivity or workability, and increase construction cost. So it is desirable to prepare some temporary poles and to install them when the warning of heavy snow is announced. This study was carried out to develop the temporary pole supporting system using galvanized steel pipes for plastic housing and to evaluate the safe snow load on a temporary pole. A pipe connector, which is inserted in the top of pipe used in the temporary pole and supports the center purline, was designed and manufactured to be able to carry the upper loads safely. And a bearing plate was safely designed and manufactured in order to carry the loads acting on it to the ground. When temporary poles of ${\phi}$ 25 pipe are installed at 2.4m interval, it shows that the single span plastic greenhouses with 5~7 m width are able to support the additional snow depth of 13.9~25.3 cm beyond the snow load supported by main frame.

  • In this study, the vibration signal of the mold was measured and analyzed to monitor the process information and characteristics during the press molding process. A necklace-type picture frame mold was used for press molding, and the vibration signal was measured by GY-61 acceleration sensor module attached to the surface of the upper (movable) mold base. The change of the vibration signal of the mold according to press speed was analyzed. As a result, the vibration signal had a large change at five sections: "Holder contact", "Punch contact and start of pressing", "End of pressing", "Mold open", and "Demolding". The time difference between "Punch contact and start of pressing" and "End of pressing" means the pressing time which is the actual time the material is molded under pressing pressure. The time intervals for each section, represented by the time interval between "Holder contact" and "Punch contact and start of pressing", can be used to compare and evaluate the press speed applied to the process. By comparing the vibration signals at 60 rpm and 90 rpm, the amplitude at the section of "Punch contact and start of pressing" increased as the press speed increased. This result means that as the press speed increases, more force and pressure is applied to the material. Also, the peak values of the other sections were found to increase as the press speed increased. It was found that the pressing time, the time interval between "Punch contact and start of pressing" and "End of pressing", decreases as the pressing speed increases. Similarly, press speed factor, the time interval between "Holder contact", and "Punch contact and start of pressing", is found to be shorter. Therefore, based on the result of this study, the pressing time, press speed, pressing(punching) pressure of each cycle can be monitored by measuring the vibration signal of the mold. Also, it was confirmed that the level and trend of process information and characterization can be evaluated as the change of the mold vibration during press molding.

  • A digital video is usually very long temporally. requiring large storage capacity. Therefore, users want to watch pre-summarized video before they watch a large long video. Especially in the field of sports video, they want to watch a highlight video. Consequently, highlight video is used that the viewers decide whether it is valuable for them to watch the video or not. This paper proposes how to create soccer video highlight using the structural features of the caption such as temporal and spatial features. Caption frame intervals and caption key frames are extracted by using those structural features. And then, highlight video is created by using scene relocation, logical indexing and highlight creation rule. Finally. retrieval and browsing of highlight and video segment is performed by selection of item on browser.
