This paper describes the structural analysis result and load test result of accident EMU(Electric Multiple Units). Structural analysis and load test of EMU were performed for the criteria of safety assessment. Structural analysis using commercial I-DEAS software provided important information on the stress distribution and load transfer mechanisms as well as the amount of damages during rolling stock crash. The purpose of the load test is to evaluate a safety which carbody structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load and operating condition. The results have been used to provide the critical information for the criteria of safety assessment.
This study is to propose a modified equivalent frame method under lateral loading. ACI 318-02 allows the equivalent frame method to conduct slab analysis subjected to lateral loads. However, current method can not predict the behavior of the slabs particularly under lateral loading because the equivalent frame method in the ACI 318 has been developed against gravity loads. This study provides more precise model for the analysis of the flat plate slabs under lateral loading. The model reflect the force transfer mechanism of slabs, column and torsional member more accurately than the existing model. The accuracy of this model is verified by compared with finite element method analysis results.
A penalty frame method is proposed for the coupled analysis of finite elements with independently modeled substructures. Although previously reported hybrid interface method by Aminpour et al (IJNME, Vol 38, 1995) is accurate and reliable, it requires non-conventional special solution algorithm such as multifrontal solver. In present study, an alternative method has been developed using penalty frame constraints, which results in positive symmetric global stiffness matrices. Thus the conventional skyline solver or band solver can be utilized in the solution routine, which makes the present method applicable in the environment of conventional finite element commercial software. Numerical examples show applicability of the present method.
In this study, the vulnerability of two existing asymmetric steel building frames to Progressive Collapse (PC) is assessed. The buildings have different frame systems, steel sections and number of stories (nine and six). An alternate path method (APM) with a linear static analysis (LS) is carried out according to General Services Administration (GSA) 2003 guidelines. The Demand Capacity Ratio (DCR) of each primary element (beams and columns) is given with its specific details for all frames. The results show that the nine-story building with a dual frame system (moment frame with bracing system) has a lower susceptibility and greater resistance to PC than the six-story building with a simple building frame system (gravity system with bracing system). Implementing built-up box-shaped sections for columns is a better choice than using built-up I-shaped sections because there is no weak axis for the box section.
In this paper, stress analyses using shell and solid elements on weld zone of railway bogie frame were performed. To calculate stress distribution on weld zone, a coupling model using shell and solid elements was suggested. For this purpose, we performed specimen analyses on T-type solid and shell model of T-type panels which were modeled using shell elements, solid elements and coupled elements, respectively. The result showed that the stress concentration at weld zone was occurred in solid model, but it didn't occur in shell model. And the stress distribution of coupled model was similar to that of solid model. Also, we applied the coupled modeling method on the analysis on weld zone of bogie frame. The stress distribution of coupled model showed much higher compared to that of shell only model. Therefore, the coupled model method is highly recommended for the stress analysis in weld zone of bogie frame.
A frame slab method has been proved as a possible and profitable construction solution for the urban tunnels with very shallow overburden and the excavation from the surface Is strictly limited. Since this method allows only a small amount of construction activities in the ground surface, the disturbances to the public and the surface traffic can be drastically reduced compared with the ordinary cut-and-cover method. The construction sequences of the method and the some of critical cautions needed are described in detail. Also a comprehensive numerical analysis including 2-D and 3-D analysis have been performed to verify the stability of the ground during the construction. It is revealed from this study that the frame slab method can be a quite successful solution for the shallow overburden tunnelling in urban area.
This report is the result performed the structural analysis and the static and fatigue load test of bogie frame for the purpose of designing and verifying the bogie frame which satisfy the load condition required in the UIC code. This investigation is proposed the efficient draft of the design to satisfy the load condition required in the UIC code. And It is performed the structural analysis to evaluate the static strength and the fatigue life of the patient material and the welded part. Also, This is proposed the efficient draft of the test to satisfy the method of the static and fatigue test required in the UC code. And it is carried out the static and the fatigue load test to verify it. We can designed the bogie frame in compliance with UIC 515-4 and 615-4 code.
A low damage self-centering braced frame equipped with post-tensioning strands is capable of directing damage to replaceable butterfly-shaped fuses. This paper investigates the seismic performance of rocking braced frame under near-field pulse-like ground motions compared to far-field records. A non-linear time history analysis is performed for twelve self-centering archetypes. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the influences of ground motion types and modeling parameters. Findings represent the proper efficiency of the self-centering system under both far-field and near-field pulse-like ground motions.
To achieve the structural safety of the vehicle, designs in various cases are carried out by using CATIA program. It is promoted the relaxation of stresses by collisions from the front portion, the side part and the rear portion of the vehicle. In this study, we conduct a variety of design of frames for the light weight frame of the vehicle and structural analysis, to protect the driver by adding reinforced frame. In the case of such a collision, there are maximum stresses greater than yield strength of steel and a very large local plastic deformation at the collision part.
The capabilities of finite elements codes allow now accurate simulations of blanking processes when appropriate materials modelling are used. Over the last decade, numerous numerical studies have focused on the influence of process parameters such as punch-die clearance, tools geometry and friction on blanking force and blank profile. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis is carried out to design a lead frame blanking die using LS-Dyna3D package. After design of the blanking die, an experiment is also carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42, a kind of IC lead frame material. In this paper, it has been researched the investigation to examine the influence of process parameters such as clearance and air cylinder pressure on the accuracy of sheared plane. Through the experiment results, it is shown that the quality of sheared plane is less affected by clearance and air cylinder pressure.
