Traumatic diaphragm hernia can occur in rare cases and generally accompanies thoracic or abdominal injuries. When suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, a small force can develop into vertebral fracture and an adjacent structural injury, and lead to diaphragm hernia without accompanying concomitant thoracoabdominal injury. A high level of suspicion may be a most reliable diagnostic tool in the detection of a diaphragm injury, and we need to keep in mind a possibility in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis and a thoracolumbar fracture, even in the case of minor trauma.
End milling experiments are conducted to investigate characteristics of acoustic emission (AE) and cutting force singals due to tool fracture. The AE signals are obtained with a sensor attached to cutting fluid discharge nozzle. Tool states are identified with scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy. It is demonstrated that the AE signals provide reliable informations about the cutting processes and tool states. Morever, tool fracture can be detected successfully using both the AE count rate and the standard deviation of principal cutting force.
To maintain serviceability of concrete structure more than proper it is necessary not only predict service life through periodical monitor but also need monitoring system to recognize optimal time and method for repair. Recently, CPGFRP, replacing some GFRP with CF, is developed and used for monitoring concrete fraction. But dramatic resistance change of CPGFRP is showed below 0.5% strain and it is not small strain in terms of monitoring micro crack in concrete. In other word, monitoring with CF is not suitable in low stress hut hight stress. In this study, we accessed applicable possibility and reliability of CPGFRP composite as monitoring sense that is proved very sensitive to stress through domestic and oversea previous study. CPGFRP composite plays a role in specimen like steel and increases flexural strength. CPGFRP composite shows resistance increasement in micro crack. In particular, CPUFRP is more sensitive than strangage in low stress. Resistance change ratio curve is very similar to strain curve so sensitivity and reliability is very excellent to monitor concrete fracture.

Fiber fracture is one of the dominant failure phenomena to determine total mechanical properties in composites. Fiber fracture locations were measured by optical microscopic method and acoustic emission (AE) as functions of matrix toughness and surface treatment by the electrodeposition (ED), and then two methods were compared. Two AE sensors were attached on the epoxy specimen and fiber fracture signals were detected with elapsed time. The interfacial shear stress (IFSS) was measured using tensile fragmentation test and AE system. In ED-treated case, the number of the fiber fracture measured by an optical method and AE was more than that of the untreated case. The signal number measured by AE were rather smaller than the number of fragments measured by optical method, since some fiber fracture signals were lost while AE detection. However, one-to-one correspondence between the x-position location by AE and real break positions by optical method was generally established well. The fiber break source location using AE can be a valuable method to measure IFSS for semi- or nontransparent matrix composites nondestructively (NDT).
Peroneal tendon dislocation in association with calcaneal fracture is not common and difficult to diagnose and is often overlooked. It can result in peroneal tendon tear and tenosynovitis which in turn lead to ankle pain and dysfunction. Early detection with through physical examination and CT scan is important to reduce the subsequent tendon dysfunction. We experienced 6 cases of peroneal tendon dislocation associated with calcaneal fracture, and treated 3 of them at the time of fracture operation and treated the other 3 after calcaneal fracture surgery due to sustained pain. We report the results with a review of the literature.
We report the rehabilitation of Class II malocclusion with multiple teeth fracture due to trauma. A multidisciplinary team approach was necessary to treat patient's problems such as bone fracture, malocclusion, and multiple teeth fracture. Emergency conservative treatment, orthodontic treatment and prosthetic restoration successfully restored the occlusion. However, special considerations were needed along the orthodontic treatment process due to the unexpected complications such as ankylosis, root resorption and detection of additional teeth fractures.
Acoustic emission(AE) signals detected during metal cutting were applied as the experimental test to sensing tool wear and chipping on the NC vertical milling machine. The in-process detection of cutting tool wear including chipping, cracking and fracture has been investigated by means of AE in spite of vibration or noise through intermittent metal cutting, then the following results were obtained 1) When the tool wear is increased suddenly, or the amplitude of AE signals changes largely, it indicates chipping or breaking of the insert tip. 2) It was confirmed that AE signal is highly sensitive to the cutting speed and tool wear. 3) At the early period of cutting, the wear were large and RMS value increased highly by the influence of minute chipping and cracking, etc. Therefore, the above situations should be considered for the time when the tool would be changed.
A CP-GFRP(Carbon Powder-Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) sensor was fabricated for fracture detection. The electric resistance of the sensor was measured on condition of various composition of carbon powders and thickness of bundle of glass fibers. The resistance of the sensor was decreased as the increase of the content of carbon powders and the TEX of the glass fibers. In the case of loading on CP-GFRP, because inner crack was propagated, the part of percolation structures was disconnected. These observations show the following results. The conduction of CP-GFRP sensor is due to percolation structure of carbon powders and increase of resistance is due to expansion of cracks.
