  • The object of the present work is the natural frequency analysis of subambient pressure tri-pad and pico sliders. Head/disk interaction during start/stop and constant speed were detected by using the acoustic emission (AE) test system. The frequency spectrum analysis is performed using the AE signal obtained during the head/disk interaction. The FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) analysis of the AE signals is used to understand the interaction between the AE signal and the state of contact. Natural frequency analysis was performed using the Ansys program. The results indicate acceptable accordance of finite element calculation results with the experimental results.

  • The spectrum of impulse response signal which is obtained from an impulse hammer testing is used for frequency response function, nevertheless it has serious faults when the record length for the signal processing is not very long. The faults cannot be avoided with the conventional signal analyzer that is processing all the signals as if they are always periodic. The signals generated by the impact hammer are undoubtedly non-periodic because of the damping, and are acquired for limited recording time due to the memory as well as the computation performance of the signal analyzer. This paper will make clear the relation between the faults and the length of recording time, and propose the way for solving the faults.

  • Stall inception in a high-speed centrifugal compressor has been examined. The main objective was to find stall precursor and to develop a reliable stall warning method. Eight equally spaced fast-response pressure transducers in the inducer detected the spatial structure of small amplitude perturbations, via spatial Fourier transform, as stall is approached. Near the stall inception point, the phase of spatial courier coefficients increased linearly with the speed of impeller relation for several impeller revolutions at all test speeds, and the spectrum at impeller frequency increased as stall is approached. These are the clear evidences that the impeller frequency participates in the stalling process.

  • As visual surveillance systems gain wider usage in a variety of fields, it is important that they are capable of interpreting scenes automatically, also known as "human motion analysis" (HMA). However, existing HMA methods are too domain specific and computationally expensive. This paper proposes a general purpose HMA method that is based on the idea that human beings tend to exhibit erratic motion patterns during abnormal situations. Limb movements are characterized using the statistics of angular and linear displacements. In addition, the method is enhanced via the use of the entropy of the Fourier spectrum to measure the randomness of subject's motions. Various experiments have been conducted and the results indicate that the proposed method has very high classification accuracy in identifying anomalous behavior.

  • It is considered that the effect of radiation aging, such as electron beam due to the ultra-high voltage for transmission, on the physical properties and electrical characteristics of electrital insulating materials. Low-density polyethylene(thickness 100[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$]) is selected as an experimental specimen. Fourier transform infra-red spectrum, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy is used so as to analysis the physical properties, the morphological changes and the crystallinity of LDPE. And it is made an experiments of dielectric characteristics in the temperature range of 20[$^{\circ}C$]~120[$^{\circ}C$], in the frequency range of 30[Hz]~1.5$\times$10$^{5}$ [Hz] and in the applied voltage range of 300[mV]~1500[mV].

  • Full-range spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) with a 1-${\mu}m$ band light source is shown here. The phase of the reference beam is continuously stepped while the probing beam scans the sample laterally (B-scan). The two dimensional spectral interferogram obtained is processed by a Fourier transform method to obtain a complex spectrum leading to a full-range OCT image. A detailed mathematical explanation of the complex conjugate resolving method utilized is provided. The system's measurement speed was 7.96 kHz, the measured axial resolution was $9.6{\mu}m$ in air and the maximum sensitivity 99.4 dB. To demonstrate the effect of mirror image elimination, In vivo human eye pathology was measured.

  • This paper aims to make an artificial arm control strategy. For this, we propose a new feature extraction method and design artificial neural network for the functional classification of myoelectric signal(MES). We first transform the two channel myoelectric signals (MES) for biceps and triceps into frequency domain using fast Fourier transform (FFT). And features were obtained by comparing the magnitudes of ensemble spectrum data and used as inputs to the three-layer neural network for the learning. By changing the number of units in hidden layer of neural network we observed the improvement of classification performance. To observe the effeciency of the proposed scheme we performed experiments for classification of six arm functions to the three subjects. And we obtained on average 94[%] the ratio of classification.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that obtains the surfac eorientation of the texture image using structural approaches. The proposed method showed that structural approaches can be effectively used in 3-D analysis of textures as well as description and segmentation without additional information. By examining fourier power spectrum of the texture image, we detemine the tilt of the textured surface. Then, 1-D projection information of the texture in the obtained tilt direction is used to compute the slant. Using the obtained information, we can compute the vanishing point, and rearrange the textured surface with lines converging to the vanishing point and lines perpendicular to the tilt direction. In the experimental results, we have ascertained the proposed algorithm can make a rpecise 3-D analysis of structural textures.

  • The cognitive ultra-wideband (UWB) network detects interfering narrowband systems and adapts its configuration accordingly. An inherently adaptive and flexible candidate for cognitive UWB transmission is the wavelet packet multicarrier modulation (WPMCM). In this letter, we use an enhanced forward consecutive mean excision thresholding algorithm to tackle the noise uncertainty in the wavelet-based sensing of WPMCM systems, and mathematical analysis is performed for primary user channel fading. As a benchmark, we compare the proposed system with a conventional fast Fourier transformation-based system, and performance investigation proves significant improvements when primary and secondary links are subjected to multipath fading and noise.
