This study is concerned with the surface quality of products according to the material and coating condition of the forming tool in incremental sheet forming. Three forming tools, SKD11 with and without diamond-like-coating (DLC) and polymer tool tip, were used to form conical and pyramidal geometries to take into account the influence of friction between the forming tool and the sheet on the surface quality including geometric accuracy of deformed samples. Each test was performed using SUS304 with a thickness of 0.4 mm according to different incremental depths per lap of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm for the contour tool path, considering the increase in normal force which is associated with the frictional behavior during local deformation. The surface quality was then investigated through surface roughness measured with KEYENCE VR-6000 and relative strain distribution including deformed shape analyzed with ARGUS which is a non-contact optical strain measurement system. Differences between 3D CAD surfaces and captured geometry from experiments were evaluated to compare the effect of friction on geometric accuracy. From comparisons of experimental results, it was revealed that the polymer-based tool tip can improve surface quality and geometric accuracy by reducing the undesired material flow due to local friction in the increment sheet forming process.
Statement of the problem. The record base in fabricating procedures of the complete denture, as a temporary form for reproducing denture base, is used to record upper and lower jaw relation and to align artificial teeth and try-in it in the mouth. The accuracy of jaw relation record is affected by the accuracy, stiffness and stability of the record base. So, the accuracy of record base is the most important requirements of jaw relation records. Purpose of study. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the gap that occurred over the palatal area of a maxillary record base fabricated with autopolymerizing resin and light-curing resin. Methods/material. The maxillary record bases were fabricated out of autopolymerizing resin that is used the most frequently in clinics and light-curing resin that attracts special attention for its several merits. The light-curing resin was made by two kinds of polymerization methods, which are one step curing method and multiple step curing method. All record bases were cut in certain positions of the master cast 1 hour and 1 day later after fabrication and the accuracy of the master cast was measured and analyzed with a microscope. Results. A pattern of gap formation between the record base and the maxillary cast was observed in all specimens. According to kinds of resins, autopolymerizing resin was significantly more accurate than light-curing resin. There was no statistical difference according to time lapse, and in all three groups, the maximum discrepancy occurred at the posterior border in the mid-palatal region. Conclusion. The autopolymerizing resin is better than light-curing resin, and multiple step curing method is more accurate than one step curing method when using light-curing resin.

The machining accuracy is affected by geometric, volumetric errors of the machine tools. To improve the product quality, we need to enhance the machining accuracy of the machine tools. To this point of view, measurement and inspection of finished part as error analysis of machine tools ahas been studied for last several decades. This paper suggests the enhancement method of machining accuracy for precision machining of high quality metal reflection mirror or optics lens, etc. In this paper, we study 1) the compensation of linear pitch error with NC controller compensation function using laser interferometer measurement, 2) the method for enhancing the accuracy of NC milling machining by modeling and compensation of volumetric error, 3) the spherical surface manufacturing by modeling and compensation of volumetric error of the machine tool, 4) the system development of OMM without detaching work piece from a bed of machine tool after working, 5) the generation of the finished part profile by OMM. Furthermore, the output of OMM is compared with that of CMM, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.

Various empirical formulas have been developed to describe the stability of breakwater armor stones. The Hudson formula is known to have needs to be refined in many ways. but it is most widely used because of its simplicity. The van der Meer formula is sometimes used for the cross-check, but it is not very popularly used due to its complexity and the uncertainty of the relevant parameters. Recently, on the other hand, Yoo(2003) proposed a formula of a simple form using a new non-dimensional number which is called 'action slope' (abbreviated as Yoo formula hereinafter). In this study, in order to provide coastal engineers with some idea of the use of these formulas, their accuracies were estimated by comparing with the experimental data reported by van der Meer in 1987 and 1988. It was found that the van der Meer formula showed the highest accuracy, while the Hudson formula of very low accuracy needed considered judgment on its use. On the other hand, the Yoo formula of slightly lower accuracy but simpler expression than the van der Meer formula seems to be able to be used in engineering practice if a slightly higher safety factor is taken.
This paper not only tests VIDS(Video Image Detection System) performance by vehicle speed group but also suggests optimal VIDS height considering road and cost condition. The VIDS spreads over freeway and national highway and plays an important role in ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems). As a result, speed data accuracy drops form 50kph vehicle speed and volume and occupancy data accuracy drop from 30kph. Lowest speed data accuracy is only 88%, but volume and occupancy accuracy are 75% and 77% respectively. The reason VIDS data accuracy drop by vehicle speed is gap distance decrease between vehicles. Therefore, this paper suggests $17m{\sim}21m$ for optimal VIDS height considering road and cost condition.
Real-time hybrid testing (RTHT) involves virtual splitting of the structure into two parts: physical substructure that contains the key region of interest which is tested in a laboratory and numerical substructure that contains the remaining part of the structure in the form of a numerical model. This paper numerically assesses four step-by-step integration methods (Central difference method (CDM), Operator splitting method (OSM), Rosenbrock based method (RBM) and CR-integration method (CR)) which are widely used in RTHT. The methods have been assessed in terms of stability and accuracy for various realistic damping ratios of the physical substructure. The stability is assessed in terms of the spectral radii of the amplification matrix while the accuracy in terms of numerical damping and period distortion. In order to evaluate the performance of the methods, five carefully chosen examples have been studied - undamped SDOF, damped SDOF, instantaneous softening, instantaneous hardening and hysteretic system. The performance of the methods is measured in terms of a non-dimensional error index for displacement and velocity. Based on the error indices, it is observed that OSM and RBM are robust and performs fairly well in all the cases. CDM performed well for undamped SDOF system. CR method can be used for the system showing softening behaviour. The error indices indicate that accuracy of OSM is more than other method in case of hysteretic system. The accuracy of the results obtained through time integration methods for different damping ratios of the physical substructure is addressed in the present study. In the presence of a number of integration methods, it is preferable to have criteria for the selection of the time integration scheme. As such criteria are not available presently, this paper attempts to fill this gap by numerically assessing the four commonly used step-by-step methods.

Optical system needs to be aligned before its undergoing process, is usually shows coma aberrations, which occurred due to imperfection in the lens or other components results in off-axis point sources, appearing to have a tail like a comet. There are some methods to correct coma aberration. In this paper, to correct coma aberration in optical system, using a robot arm type coordinate measuring machine(CMM). CMMs are widely used to measure the form of accuracy of parts and positioning accuracy of systems. Among them, robot arm type CMM has more advantages than the others, such as its mobility and measuring range. However, robot arm type CMM has lower accuracy than cantilever type CMM. To prove robot arm type CMM's accuracy, several factors were suggested in this paper and the final measuring results were compared to a commercial cantilever type CMM. Based on this accuracy, a typical optical system was successfully aligned by using our robot arm type CMM.

The transcription characteristics in the molding of aspheric glass lenses for camera phone modules have been investigated experimentally. The surface topographies of both the form and the roughness were compared between the mold and the molded lens. The molded lens showed a transcription ratio of 93.4%, which is obtained by comparing the form accuracy (PV) values of the mold and the molded lens. The transcription of the roughness topography was ascertained by bearing ratio analysis.
A novel index representing burden distribution form in the blast furnace is developed and index estimation model is built with an empirical modeling method to monitor inner condition of the furnace without expensive sensors. To find the best combination of index and modeling method, two candidates for the index and four modeling methods have been examined. Results have shown that 3-D index have more resolution in describing the distribution form than 1-D index and ANN model produces smallest RMSE due to nonlinearity between the indices and charging mode. Although ANN has shown the best prediction accuracy in this study, PLS can be a good alternative due to its advantages in generalization capability, consistency, simplicity and training time. The second best result of PLS in the prediction results supports this fact.
The objective of this study was to derive approximate closed-form error rates for M-ary burst symbol transmission (MBST) of dual-hop adaptive decode-and-forward (ADF) cooperative relay systems over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. Within a burst, there are pilot symbols and data symbols. Pilot symbols are used for channel estimation schemes and each relay node's transmission mode selection schemes. At first, our focus was on ADF relay systems' error-events at relay nodes. Each event's occurrence probability and probability density function (PDF) were then derived. With error-event based approach, we derived a tractable form of PDF for combined signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Averaged error rates were then derived as approximate expressions for arbitrary link SNR with different modulation orders and numbers of relays. Its accuracy was verified by comparison with simulation results.
