  • Obfuscation technology delays the analysis of a program by modifying internal logic such as data structure and control flow while maintaining the program's functionality. However, the application of such obfuscation technology to malicious code frequently occurs to reduce the detection rate of malware in antivirus software. The obfuscation technology applied to protect software intellectual property is applied to the malicious code in reverse, which not only lowers the detection rate of the malicious code but also makes it difficult to analyze and thus makes it difficult to identify the functionality of the malicious code. The study of reverse obfuscation techniques that can be closely restored should also continue. This paper analyzes the characteristics of obfuscated code with the option of Pack the Output File and Import Protection among detailed obfuscation technologies provided by VMProtect 3.4.0, a popular tool among commercial obfuscation tools. We present a de-obfuscation algorithm.

  • This paper carried out the comparative analysis on ground impedance of a carbon block and a copper rod. Two types of grounding electrode were compared ; a carbon block (L : 1 m, ${\Phi}$ : 245 mm) buried at a depth of 0.8 m and a three-linked copper rod (L : 1 m, ${\Phi}$ : 10 mm) of equilateral triangles with 1 m spacing. Ground impedance depending on applied current source was evaluated by the application of a sine wave current with 60 Hz ~ 3.5 MHz, a fast-rise pulse with rising time of 200 ns, a standard lightning impulse of $8/20{\mu}s$ and a 600 Hz square wave. Ground impedance for both electrodes were almost the same value below 100 kHz, and increased rapidly afterwards. The maximum ground impedance appeared $400{\Omega}$ at around 1.5 MHz. Ground impedance of the carbon block was lower at the square wave and was higher at fast-rise pulse than that of the copper rod. Also, ground impedance as ages showed no difference for the last 8 months. From the results, it is likely that ground performance for both electrodes shows no difference against commercial frequency and lightning impulse current, while the copper rod shows better performance against a fast-rise pulse with rise-time of a few hundred ns.

  • The alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) gene from Bacillus stearothermopilus was amplified by the polymerase chain reaction. The amplified DNA was inserted into the expression vector pGEX-KG, and expressed it as a fusion protein with glutathione S-transferase (GST) in E. coli. The recombinant ADH was produced by induction with 1 mM isopropyl-${\beta}$-D-thiogalactopyranoside at $37^{\circ}C$ and purified by glutathione affinity chromatography. The recombinant ADH exhibited high substrate specificity for ethanol. The activity of the recombinant ADH proceeded optimally at pH 9.0 and $70^{\circ}C$. The recombinant ADH was highly stable against high temperature. This thermostable alcohol dehydrogenase can be used for the enzymatic determination of alcohol and for the industrial production of alcohol.

  • The analysis, hydrolysis mechanism, oxidation, reduction, thermal decomposition and metabolism of irritant materials such as chloroacetophenone isomers, bromophenylacetonitrile isomers, o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile(CS), and ethylisothiocyanate, etc. are interested in forensic science. We had studied hydrolysis of CS in 10% MeOH-$H_2O$ and 10% dioxane-$H_2O$ at pH 1.0~11.0 and various temperatures. As a result, we identified o-chlorobenzaldehyde and malononitrile that were formed by hydrolysis of CS by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectrometry, and polarographic method.

  • Background: Promoter hypermethylation is a frequent epigenetic mechanism for gene transcription repression in cancer and is one of the hallmarks of the disease. Cadherin EGF LAG seven-pass G-type receptor 3 (CELSR3) contributes to cell contact-mediated communication. Dysregulation of promoter methylation has been reported in various cancers. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the CELSR3 hypermethylation level in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) using methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting analysis (MS-HRM) and to correlate CELSR3 methylation with patient demographic and clinicopathological parameters. Materials and Methods: Frozen tissue samples of healthy subjects' normal mucosa and OSCCs were examined with regard to their methylation levels of the CELSR3 gene using MS-HRM. Results: MS-HRM analysis revealed a high methylation level of CELSR3 in 86% of OSCC cases. Significant correlations were found between CELSR3 quantitative methylation levels with patient ethnicity (P=0.005), age (P=0.024) and pathological stages (P=0.004). A moderate positive correlation between CELSR3 and patient age was also evident (R=0.444, P=0.001). Conclusions: CELSR3 promoter hypermethylation may be an important mechanism involved in oral carcinogenesis. It may thus be used as a biomarker in OSCC prognostication.

  • Objective: The primary aim of the study was to generate new prediction equations for the estimation of maxillary and mandibular canine and premolar widths based on mandibular incisors and first permanent molar widths. Methods: A total of 2,340 calculations (768 based on the sum of mandibular incisor and first permanent molar widths, and 1,572 based on the maxillary and mandibular canine and premolar widths) were performed, and a digital stereomicroscope was used to derive the the digital models and measurements. Mesiodistal widths of maxillary and mandibular teeth were measured via scanned digital models. Results: There was a strong positive correlation between the estimation of maxillary (r = 0.85994, $r^2=0.7395$) and mandibular (r = 0.8708, $r^2=0.7582$) canine and premolar widths. The intraclass correlation coefficients were statistically significant, and the coefficients were in the strong correlation range, with an average of 0.9. Linear regression analysis was used to establish prediction equations. Prediction equations were developed to estimate maxillary arches based on $Y=15.746+0.602{\times}sum$ of mandibular incisors and mandibular first permanent molar widths (sum of mandibular incisors [SMI] + molars), $Y=18.224+0.540{\times}(SMI+molars)$, and $Y=16.186+0.586{\times}(SMI+molars)$ for both genders, and to estimate mandibular arches the parameters used were $Y=16.391+0.564{\times}(SMI+molars)$, $Y=14.444+0.609{\times}(SMI+molars)$, and $Y=19.915+0.481{\times}(SMI+molars)$. Conclusions: These formulas will be helpful for orthodontic diagnosis and clinical treatment planning during the mixed dentition stage.

  • VNTR and STR DNA typing are typical genetic analysis methods which are widely used in DNA-fingerprinting for forensic science and other genetic research purposes. In this study, genomic DNA of different constitutions(Taeun, Soyang and Soum) were analyzed by VNTR and STR DNA typing to provide scientific and objective references for Sasang Medicine. It was found out in this study that VNTR-MCT118 and YNZ22 loci showed too many different variation of allele distribution and numbers for each constitution. Therefore, it is thought that VNTR typing can not used for genetic classification study for Sasang Constitution which classifies human body into 4 groups. However, vWA locus, one of the STR loci investigated in this study, showed slight difference in allele distribution for each different constitution.

  • As the utilization rate of smart device increases, various applications for smart device have been developed. Since these applications can contain important data related to user behaviors in digital forensic perspective, the analysis of them should be conducted in advance. However, lots of applications get to have new data format or type when they are updated. Therefore, whether the applications are updated or not should be checked one by one, and if they are, whether their data are changed should be also analyzed. But observing application data repeatedly is a time-consuming task, and that is why the effective method for dealing with this problem is needed. This paper suggests the automatic system which gets updated information and checks changed data by collecting application information.

  • An archaeoparasitological analysis of the soil samples from Nadym Gorodok site of Western Siberia has been carried out in this study. The archaeological site was dated as the 13 to 18th century, being characterized as permafrost region ensuring good preservation of ancient parasite eggs. Parasite eggs as Opisthorchis felineus, Alaria alata, and Diphyllobothrium sp. were found in the archaeological soil samples, which made clear about the detailed aspects of Nadym Gorodok people's life. We found the Diphyllobothrium sp. eggs throughout the 14 to 18th century specimens, allowing us to presume that raw or undercooked fish might have been commonly used for the foods of Nadym Gorodok inhabitants and their dogs for at least the past 400 years. Our study on Nadym Gorodok specimens also demonstrate that there might have been migratory interactions and strong economic ties between the people and society in Western Siberia, based on archaeoparasitological results of Opisthorchis felineus in Western Siberia.

  • We collected age determination cases which were done at Yonsei university dental hospital, department of oral medicine from 1976 to 1999 to analyze it's tendency among Koreans. We analyzed 435 clients cases which were stored by age estimation program from January 1993 to December 1999. The results are as follows: 1. There were no significant difference in the sexual distribution (male : 52.0%, female : 48.0%) and more than half percent (51%) were 20's and 30's. 2. Among the age determination clients, those who wanted to decrease their age (50.3%) and those who wanted to increase their age (49.7%) shows similar in number. And the former case were predominant in the female clients, but the latter case in the male clients. Also the clients below six years of age were predominant in the former case, but the clients more than sixty were predominant in the latter case. 3. The purposes of age correction showed different distribution for ages: job or employment for 20's and 30's, marriage for 20's, registration for school for below six, welfare and other social services for 50 and older. 4. Age was estimated by Nolla's growth stage for 12 and under, calcification of the second and third molar for 12~20, and for 20 and over, Takei's tooth abrasion model was used. 5. The alleged age was in accordance with the documents and other information given by clients, but in the 20.6% of the estimation cases, the alleged age was discarded. In the results of the analysis of age determination cases in Koreans, many of the cases resulted from our historical turbulence and social distinctiveness, causing an increase in the necessity for age correction in each age group. For more accurate determination for each age group, further studies with Koreans must be done continuously.
