Experiments are carried out to investigate the effect of pulsations on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of an axisymmetric impinging jet on a flat plate heated by using a gold coated aim. Vertex motion in the impinging jet is visualized using a fog generator, and a thermochromatic liquid crystal (TLC) technique is used to measure the time averaged local temperature distributions on the impingement plate. In addition, the quantitative data for mean velocity and turbulence intensity are obtained employing hot-wire anemometer. Parameters such as pulsating frequency (f = 0, 10 and 20 Hz) and the nozzle-to-palate spacing (H/D = 2, 10) are considered at the jet Reynolds number of 20,000. Consequently, the significant changes of flow structure and local Nusselt number distribution due to pulsations are observed. In the case of H/D = 2, the enhanced heat transfer coefficient exceeding 30 % is observed at the stagnation point. At the high H/D, heat transfer rate increases with pulsation frequency.

Reclaimed lands, expected as high-tech export horticultural complex, have unusual light environments due to sea fog. For adequate greenhouse design at reclaimed land, spatial light distributions in greenhouse should be required considering diffusive and direct lights. The objectives of this study were to analyze light environments and estimate spatial light distributions in greenhouse at reclaimed land by 3D greenhouse models. Total and diffusive lights were compared between reclaimed land and inland. For verification of the 3D greenhouse models, spatial light distributions and measured light intensities in greenhouse were compared with the estimated ones. Light environments at reclaimed land showed a higher diffusive irradiation than at inland, especially near sunrise and sunset. The estimated spatial light distributions in greenhouse showed good agreements with the measured ones. By using this method, we could estimate the average light intensity with time and spatial light distributions in greenhouse at specific outside light conditions. This result will be useful for analysis of light environments but also estimation of crop light inception in greenhouse at reclaimed land.
This study was conducted to investigate effects of cooling methods on the growth and yield of tomato cv. momotaro in the glasshouse for four years from 1996 to 1999. Cooling methods were fan, fan and fogging, fan and shading(temp. control), fan and shading(radiation control), fan and shading (temp. control) with fogging. Fan, Fogging and Shading(temp. control) were operated automatically when air temperature was over 3$0^{\circ}C$. Amount of fogging was 500m1/min/100m$^2$and Droplets in a fog were 50 microns or smaller. Shading(radiation control) was operated automatically when solar radiation was over 500W/m$^2$. The growth and yield were the least in fan and shading(temp. control) method due to lack of light Intensity. Fogging method must be reconsidered for expensive equipment and maintenance expenses. As the matter stands, It is suggested to be the most considerable cooling method to increase ventilation rate with fan or use fan and shading(radiation control).
A new open-loop signal processing technique of digital phase tracking is known to have a Potential to solve the problems in the open-loop processor such as limited dynamic range, dependence on the optical intensity fluctuations, and dependence on gain fluctuations of signal path. But new problems with digital phase tracking must be solved before it can be a useful signal processing method. In this paper, barriers to the success of the digital phase tracking such as harmonics content, phase difference, amplitude variations of the phase modulation(PM) signal, bandwidth limit of the signal path, and the implementation of the mixer, are pointed out and their effects on the performance of the signal processor are analyzed to calculate the requirements of the signal processor for $1{\mu}rad$-grade FOG.

Water in the Mulgol pond on Dokdo (island), Korea, was historically used for drinking water, but now it has been no longer used for this purpose due to regionally low water quality. Since 2007, this pond has been covered with a metal lid to protect from pollutants of seabirds, indicating limited light penetration into the Mulgol pond. Here, we investigated water quality in the pond and potential relationships of nitrogen components and microbes in May, June, August, and November 2020. The source salinity ranged from 1.39 to 1.57 psu. Suspended solids (0.8~5.1 mg L-1) and chlorophyll-a (<0.01~0.49 ㎍ L-1) remained low. The concentration of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) was between 35.9 and 47.2 mg L-1. Thus, water in the Mulgol pond proves to be brackish water with low chlorophyll-a and high nutrients. This unique environment may be established by limited light intensity, sea fog (or seawater), and fecal pellets from many seabirds. Although the light source (800~8000 lux) was exposed to the four subsamples, chlorophyll-a concentrations were below <0.5 ㎍ L-1 during the incubation periods. This result suggests that the biomass of phytoplankton does not increase along with an increase in light intensity. Furthermore, the content of nitrate constituted more than 90% of DIN, and a significant negative correlation between nitrate concentration and bacterial abundance was shown in May and June 2020 during the light exposure experiments (R=-0.762, p<0.05). Thus, it is possible that bacteria may be a significant agent to reduce nitrate concentration in the Mulgol pond, the relationship between nitrate concentration and bacterial abundance may vary seasonally.
