  • This study was performed to examine the effects of Curcuma aromatica (CA) and orange rind on the quality and sensory score of flying fish $Cypselurus$ $agoo$ $agoo$ roe treated with electrolyzed water during frozen storage ($-18^{\circ}C$). The pH was decreased with increasing amounts of CA extract added to flying fish roe and during frozen storage. The flying fish roe treated with CA extract showed increased yellowness, as compared to flying fish roe with no CA extract added and untreated with electrolyzed water (untreated). The flying fish roe containing CA extract maintained greater hardness than did untreated flying fish roe. The volatile basic nitrogen and trimethylamine contents of treated flying fish roe were lower than those of untreated flying fish roe during frozen storage. The results of volatile organic compound tests showed that the contents of alcohol, acid and ketone compounds in flying fish roe treated with CA extract and orange rind were relatively decreased, but the limonene content of treated flying fish roe was increased compared to that of untreated flying fish roe. In sensory evaluation, flying fish roe containing 0.05 and 0.1% of CA were preferred over others. In conclusion, CA and orange rind increased the quality and sensory scores of flying fish roe treated with electrolyzed water.

  • Flying fish Cypselurus agoo roe is a popular food ingredient due to its abundant nutrition, unique texture, and flavor. It contains high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, protein, and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, and niacin), making it a highly utilized food ingredient. Additionally, it is widely used as a raw material for food and cooking in several countries. After harvesting, flying fish roe is dried and transported to processing plants, where it performed a re-moisturizing process. However, the conventional re-moisturizing process is time-consuming and results in some loss of quality. Thus, this study investigates the conditions required for the re-moisturization of flying fish roe including the composition of the immersion solution, immersion time, and conditions that could minimize damage to the roe. The results suggest a reasonable composition of immersion solution to minimize damage to flying fish roe and the most appropriate immersion time for re-moisturization. These results may provide valuable insights for the industry to enhance the quality of re-moisturized flying fish roe, leading to an increase in its market value and demand.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of fatigue and its associated factors leading to the fatigue among Korean commercial airline pilots. Methods: An anonymous, web-based questionnaire collecting data on sleep related characteristics was completed by airline pilots. The final 1,029 samples of completed questionnaires were analyzed. The association of the risk factors with fatigue was determined using logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of fatigue was 60% (Fatigue Severity Scale index≥3.2), disturbed sleep 28% (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index≥9), daytime sleepiness 17% (Epworth Sleepiness Scale≥10), and sleep apnea (Berlin Questionnaire≥2) 11%. The fully adjusted logistic regression showed that quality of life (odds ratio [OR]=0.16, confidence interval [CI]=0.11-0.24), daytime sleepiness (OR=1.26, CI=1.18-1.34), sleep quality (OR=1.44, CI=1.29-1.61), mental workload (OR=1.10, CI=1.05-1.14), vigorous physical activity (OR=0.82, CI=0.72-0.92), late starts (OR=1.25, CI=1.06-1.46) and average weekly flying hours (OR=1.02, CI=1.00-1.03) were associated with higher levels of fatigue. Conclusion: Lower quality of life, disturbed sleep, more subjective sleepiness, shorter sleep duration, higher mental workload, less vigorous physical activity, frequent late starts, and longer flying hour were shown to be risk factors for fatigue in airline pilots. These findings should be taken into account in the development of sleep and fatigue countermeasures for airline pilots.

  • In this paper, a new Pigeon Colony Algorithm (PCA) based on the features of a pigeon colony flying is proposed for solving global numerical optimization problems. The algorithm mainly consists of the take-off process, flying process and homing process, in which the take-off process is employed to homogenize the initial values and look for the direction of the optimal solution; the flying process is designed to search for the local and global optimum and improve the global worst solution; and the homing process aims to avoid having the algorithm fall into a local optimum. The impact of parameters on the PCA solution quality is investigated in detail. There are low-dimensional functions, high-dimensional functions and systems of nonlinear equations that are used to test the global optimization ability of the PCA. Finally, comparative experiments between the PCA, standard genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization were performed. The results showed that PCA has the best global convergence, smallest cycle indexes, and strongest stability when solving high-dimensional, multi-peak and complicated problems.

  • Changes in proximate composition and protein quality were determined to find out appropriate processing conditions of the seasoned and smoked squid(Neon flying squid, Ommastrephes bartrannii). Moisture and crude protein contents were severely reduced (p<0.05), while increasing of fat and ash contents were not apparent. Seasoning and smoking contributed iii enhancing TBA value. Trypsin inhibitor(Tl) content was not increased severely after those processing steps. TI content checked in the all steps of squid processing was not correlated with the TBA value of squid in the same processing step. An improved digestibility and protein efficiency ratio(PER) were observed in the all products except with steak(mechanically soften product) in vitro enzymatic digestibilities of both raw Neon flying squid meats(mantle and arm) were significantly inferior(p<0.05) to other squid species.

  • The longitudinal stability characteristics of a Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft are quite different from that of the conventional airplane due to the existence of force and moment derivatives with regard to height. This stability characteristics plays a great role in designing a safe and efficient WIG due to its potential danger in sea surface proximity. The static and dynamic stability criteria are derived from the motion equations of WIG in the framework of small disturbance theory and discussed in the paper. The static and dynamic stability analyses of a 20-passenger WIG are conducted based on the wind tunnel test data and the dynamic motion behaviors are investigated for the change of the design parameters. Finally, the flying quality of the 20-passenger WIG is analysed at the cruising condition according to the military regulations.

  • The endless hot rolling has been focused as an innovative process technology for increasing the productivity drastically and reducing the imperfection of quality in hot rolled steel strip. To realize it in actual mill, a lots of new facilities such as bar coiler, movable LASER welder and high speed strip shear should be equipped. And also it is necessary to develop the control technique for changing the roll gap and rolling speed during rolling, which is named as Flying Gap and Speed Change control technology. To prevent a strip rupture caused by excessive tension, it is very important to minimize fluctuations in strip thickness and intension during FGSC control. In this paper, the mathematical model for FGSC control algorithm was suggested and dynamic simulation is performed to accertain the effect of suggested control method on fluctuations in strip thickness and tension. For endless hot rolling simulation, a lots of FGSC control situations, for instance - strip thickness change from strip to strip - strip width change from strip to strip - carbon content change from strip to strip are considered.
