This study suggests a new one-step fluorescent cyanoacylate-fuming method for developing fingerprints by using a CAB mixed with dimethylaminobenzalde (DMAB) and cyanoacylate (CA) in a specific ratio. CAB is prepared by mixing 2.5 % (w/w) DMAB with CA and fumigated at 180 ℃. Under these conditions, developing fingerprints showed the best results. The fuming method using CAB develops latent fingerprints into fluorescence and has a higher sensitivity than CA, and it showed comparable or better contrast to existing fluorescence enhancement methods. It was also applicable on a variety of non-porous surfaces that can be encountered at ordinary times. This method is more useful than conventional fluorescent dyeing methods in that it minimizes damage to fingerprints or samples, makes it easy to manufacture, saves time, and can use existing current equipment as it is.
There are various methods of developing latent fingerprints from evidence found at crime scenes. Crime scene investigators should choose appropriate techniques among them depending on the conditions of the evidences. In this study, we compared the three methods using forensic light sources to develop latent fingerprints on multi-colored surfaces. We selected the various samples according to color, shape and texture of the surfaces and developed the latent fingerprints using fluorescent powder, IR(Infrared) photography and Episcopic Co-axial Illumination. Fluorescent powder was highly effective on all surfaces. IR photography was also effective, but only on the not dark surfaces. Episcopic Co-axial Illumination was effective only on the flat and polished surfaces. Although fluorescent powder was fine regardless of the characteristics of the surfaces, IR photography was better on certain surfaces.
Researchers have used the visual criteria to compare the effectiveness of fingerprint enhancement techniques. However, since the visual criteria is subjective, bias can occur. Therefore, many researchers have tried to make the criteria objective using the contrast index (CI). However, there is a constraint that the CI was only validated on inked fingerprints or color-change fingerprints. In this study, we compared enhancement of fluorescence fingerprints on colored papers using the CI. The CI values differ according to the color of the background, reagent, and light source, even though the same standard fingerprints were used. Through the comparison of values, we could compare the enhancement of fluorescence fingerprints according to these factors. When visual evaluation criteria were used, the same peak score was obtained regardless of the reagent and light source. However, we could get a more detailed score comparison in this study using the CI. Therefore, it is confirmed that for comparison of enhancement of fluorescence fingerprints, the CI can be used as a basis for determining which light source and reagent are appropriate according to the background.

As a traditional method to apply fingerprint powder, brush method ("dusting") can create a risk to the health of crime scene investigators due to the inhalation toxicity of harmful and fine powders. Therefore, as a new method of applying powders, we tried to evaluate the potential of a chamber method for the development of latent fingerprint using fans in a closed chamber with a fixed capacity that can prevent the powders from being blown outside and exposed to the users, by comparing with the development results of the conventional brush method. Fingerprints on glass and plastic (PET) were extracted with black powder and green fluorescent powder, and the sharpness and minutiae of the developed fingerprints were compared for each method. The results of the black powder showed similar results, but the effect of the chamber method was slightly decreased when the green fluorescent powder was used. In order to improve the development with the green fluorescent powder, the mixture (50 : 50) of the fluorescent powder with the silica gel was tested and the results were similar to those of the brush method. It is expected that the chamber method has a high potential as a new powder application method considering the health of the crime scene investigator after fine tuning of development conditions with additional studies.
Vacuum metal deposition (VMD) is effective to develop latent fingerprints on non-porous and semi-porous surfaces. VMD can be used in cases when fingerprints that can not be developed by generalized techniques or deposited on difficult surfaces. The recommended surfaces for VMD techniques include vinyl, polymer bills, magnetic coated tickets, etc. In this study, the minimum amount of gold input was explored for developing fingerprints from at least 12 hours to up to 28 days after deposit fingerprint on the pink high density polyethylene envelope (HDPE) and low density polyethylene envelope (LDPE), which are mainly used as delivery envelopes. And the results were compared with the effects of black powder and fluorescent powder. In addition, delivery envelopes used for delivery were collected, then classified as HDPE and LDPE and pseudo-operation test was performed. As a result, VMD method developed good quality of fingerprints.
While the crime scene investigation, evidences are found to search with the naked eyes and to use science equipments. Crime evidences, which are used as judgement, have various things: blood, sperm, saliva, hair, fingerprint, fiber, soil, paint, and so on, especially, fingerprints could take through crime scene investigation, and in there, it could distinguish individually. In this case study, sort of leathers: a wallet, a belt, and a sofa, which are needed special identification even thought people experience easily in usual day, are tried many of the identification tests. As a result, using fluorescent magnetic powder method or fluorescent powder method as identification of many leathers is most efficient.
We identify the enhancement effects of zinc chloride and liquid nitrogen on low quality ninhydrin-developed fingerprint and we wanted to find out another cooling methods available for ninhydrin/Zn fingerprint enhancement besides the liquid nitrogen, which is hard to access. Artificial sweat was used to make the same level of fingerprints, and fingerprints developed by each technique were evaluated by SWGFAST standard and compared the average score and standard deviation. As a result of the experiment, ninhydrin/Zn-liquid nitrogen got 3.2 and 3.3 as average scores that enough to identify an individual such as 1,2-IND/Zn or DFO. Also, experiments using dry ice instead of liquid nitrogen as a way of the ninhydrin/Zn-developed fingerprints enhancement resulted in 3.0 and 2.9 as average scores, therefore, it was confirmed that dry ice is also a sufficient cooling method to be considered in practice in the field of forensic science.
