Synthesis of a Fluorene Carbonate from Fluorenyl Epoxide Using Supercritical Carbon Dioxde (초임계이산화탄소를 이용한 플로레닐계 에폭사이드로부터 카보네이트 화합물의 합성)

  • The carboxylation of the fluorenyl epoxide with a spiro framework, 9,9'-Bis(4-oxiranylmethoxyphenyl) fluorine (2) was catalyzed by some onium salts such as quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts to produce the corresponding five-membered cyclic carbonate (3) in an efficient and environmentally benign fashion. The coupling reactions depend greatly on the kind of the halide anions and alkyl chain length of the onium salts. While the reaction was sensitive to the reaction temperature, the reaction trends suggest that the catalytic efficiency of the quaternary ammonium halides may correlate strongly with the melting points of the halides. The reactions using a catalytic amount (2 mol %) of quaternary ammonium bromide with an n-butyl chain at 75.9 bar of $CO_2$ and 393 K give the highest yield of the cyclic carbonate (92%).

Analytical method of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in oil contaminated soils (유류 오염토양 중 다환방향족탄화수소류(PAHs) 분석방법 고찰)

  • This study was performed to establish an analytical method of PAHs in oil contaminated soil of these methods by evaluating the PAHs test methods from US EPA and ISO etc. The application to domestic contaminated soil leads to a conclusion that alumina column is a more effective clean-up procedure for oil contaminated soil rather than the others. It is proposed with the new analytical method of 12 PAHs except for more volatile compounds (naphthalene, acenaphthylene, acenaphthene, fluorene). The recovery of PAHs in this method ranged 67~107%. The oil contaminated soil samples were analyzed using GC/MSD. The concentration of PAHs ranged $78.68{\sim}275.57{\mu}g/kg$. The predominated compounds were fluoranthene, pyrene and chrysene attributing about 70% of total concentration. The level of Benzo[a]pyrene ranged $1.76{\sim}24.65{\mu}g/kg$.

White Light-Emitting Diodes Using Conjugated Polymer Blends

  • We report the characterization of white light emitting devices fabricated using conjugated polymer blends. Blue emissive poly[9,9-bis(4'-n-octyloxyphenyl) fluorene-2,7-diyl-co-10-(2'-ethylhexyl)phenothiazine-3,7-diyl] [poly(BOPF-co-PTZ)] and red emissive poly(2-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-5-methoxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (MEH-PPV) were employed in the blends. The inefficient energy transfer between these blue and red light emitting polymers (previously deduced from the PL spectra of the blend films) enables the production of white light emission through control of the blend ratio. The PL and EL emission spectra of the blend systems were found to vary with the blend ratio. The EL devices were fabricated in the ITO/PEDOT/blend/LiF/Al configuration and white light emission was obtained for one of the tested blend ratios.

  • We report on the opto-electronic properties of red, green, and blue poly (fluorene) co-polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) fabricated on a flexible plastic substrate. The plastic substrate used has a multi-layer structure with water vapor and oxygen transmission rates of less than $10^{-5}$ g/$cm^2$-day-atm and $10^{-7}$ cc/$cm^2$-day-atm, respectively. We obtained a wide range of color gamut and a maximum emission efficiency of 0.7, 10, and 1.7 cd/A for red, green, and blue PLEDs, respectively. Finally, a simple equivalent circuit model is proposed to simulate PLED current density-voltage characteristics.

  • 다양한 혐기성 조건에서 다환방향족탄화수소(PAHs)로 오염된 토양의 미생물 분해 연구를 수행하였다. 대표적인 다환방향족탄화수소인 phenanthrene과 fluorene을 토양과 물에 오염시켜서 약 100일 동안 저감정도를 관찰하였고, 실제 다환방향족탄화수소로 오염된 현장 토양을 이용 혐기성하에서 다환방향족탄화수소의 생분해 가능성을 확인하였다. 미생물 접종원은 혐기성 조건에서 다환방향족탄화수소에 노출시킨 슬러리가 사용되었다. 황산염 환원조건, 질산염 환원조건, 메탄생성조건 등의 다양한 혐기성 조건에서 실험을 수행한 결과, 메탄생성조건 > 질산염 환원조건 > 황산염 환원조건의 순서로 분해가 잘 일어났다. 또한 현장오염토양의 경우 34일간 처리 후 메탄생성조건에서 최대 72%의 분해율을 보였다.

  • Haloarene in which the phenyl group and halophenyl group are connected by alkyl groups were synthesized to study the photochemical behavior. The photochemical reactions of 1-halo-2-(phenylalkyl)enzenes (1 and 2) were studied in several aerated or unaerated solvents. In the case of 2-benzyl-1-halobenzene photoreduced product (biphenyl) is major in acetonitrile or benzene. In cyclohexane or acetonitrile with triethylamine, photoreduced product is obtained exclusively, while in acetonitrile with toluene, xylene, or sodium hydroxide photocyclized product (fluorene) is mainly obtained. In the case of 1-halo-2-phenethylbenzenes (5 and 6), photocyclized product (9,10-dihydrophenanthrene and phenanthrene) are major in acetonitrile or benzene. While the haloarenes 1 or 2 connecting the two arene rings by methylene is photoreduced, the other haloarene 5 or 6 connecting by ethylene is photocyclized. In cyclohexane or acetonitrile with a small amount of triethylamine, photoreduced reactions of 5 or 6 mainly occur. In acetonitrile with sodium hydroxide, toluene, or xylene, photocyclization of 5, 6 occur exclusively. The triplet state is mainly involved in the photocyclization of 5 or 6, because of the inhibition of oxygen.

The study of new host materials for solution-processed green organic electrophosphorescence

  • We report the syntheses, photophysical properties and device performances of solution processible host material for green-phosphorescent OLEDs. The butterfly-shaped new host materials with nonconjugated linkage of carbazole and fluorene moieties have large triple energy band gap around 2.8 eV. All of the EL devices exhibited turn-on voltages in the range of 4.8-5.0 V. GH-4 exhibited the best performance with a maximum current efficiency and power efficiency of 21.1 cd/A and 7.9 lm/W.

  • To understand the exact charge carrier photogeneration properties of photoactive thin films consisting of a ${\pi}-conjugated$ polymer matrix and a triplet dopant, we prepared two types of polymer, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and poly[9,9-bis(2- ethylhexyl)fluorene-2,7-diyl] (PF2/6) doped with triplet emitters for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), either iridium(III)fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) $(Ir(ppy)_3)$ or iridium(III)bis[(4,6-fluorophenyl)- $pyridinato-N,C^2'$]picolinate (FIrpic), as thin film devices by using the conventional method. Those doped film devices, as well as pristine film devices, on ITO substrates were characterized by means of steady state photocurrent measurement for a wide spectral range.

  • A new series of statistical alternating EL copolymer, poly[bis{2-(4-phenylenevinylene)-2-cyanoethenyl}- 9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-yl-alt-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (polymer-I) was synthesized by the modified Heck coupling reaction, and their EL characteristics were also investigated. Double layer polymer light-emitting display (PLED) with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al devices show maximum brightness and luminous efficiency up to 3000 $cd/m^{2}$ at 30 V and 0.07 lm/W at 21 V, respectively.
