Analyses of the viscous and end effects on electromagnetic (EM) pumps of annular linear induction type for the sodium coolant circulation in Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors have been carried out based on the MHD laminar flow analysis and the electromagnetic field theory. A one-dimensional MHD analysis for the liquid metal flowing through an annular channel has been performed on the basis of a simplified model of equivalent current sheets instead of three-phase currents in the discrete primary windings. The calculations show that the developed pressure difference resulted from electromagnetic and viscous forces in the liquid metal is expressed in terms of the slip, and that the viscous loss effects are negligible compared with electromagnetic driving forces except in the low-slip region where the pumps operate with very high flow velocities comparable with the synchronous velocity of the electromagnetic fields, which is not applicable to the practical EM pumps. A two-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis based on an equivalent current sheet model has found the vector potentials in closed form by means of the Fourier transform method. The resultant magnetic fields and driving forces exerted on the liquid metal reveal that the end effects due to finiteness of the pump length are formidable. In addition, a two-dimensional numerical analysis for vector potentials has been performed by the SOR iterative method on a realistic EM pump model with discretely-distributed currents in the primary windings. The numerical computations for the distributions of magnetic fields and developed pressure differences along the pump axial length also show considerable end effects at both inlet and outlet ends, especially at high flow velocities. Calculations of each magnetic force contribution indicate that the end effects are originated from the magnetic force caused by the induced current ( u x B ) generated by the liquid metal movement across the magnetic field rather than the one (E) produced by externally applied magnetic fields by three-phase winding currents. It is concluded that since the influences of the end effects in addition to viscous losses are extensive particularly in high-velocity operations of the EM pumps, it is necessary to find ways to suppress them, such as proper selection of the pump parameters and compensation of the end effects.

When a heavy rain brings flooding, a high turbid water is flowing into a reservoir. In this study, the effectiveness of the intake structures for the selective withdrawal from the various levels of a stratified reservoir was evaluated by the field experiments and the numerical modeling of the three-dimensional approaching flows. The temperature, the turbidity, and the velocity fields for the selective withdrawal were measured using both YSI6600EDS and YSI6600ADV, respectively. A threedimensional model, FLOW-3D, was used to predict the performance of the intake tower in Imha reservoir. The comparisons of the vertical velocity field showed a good agreement with the field measurements. The efficiency of the turbid-water elimination of the selective withdrawal method from low levels was higher up to 46% than that of the surface withdrawal. From the analysis of the numerical simulation, the efficiency of turbidity elimination increased by 10% for the selective withdrawal from middle levels, and by 30% from low levels. These results showed that the selective withdrawals from middle and low levels are more effective than the surface-water intake. The similar results were obtained by the one-dimensional model, SELECT, which is much more computationally time-efficient.

Performance of NOx removal in SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) process depends on such various factors as catalyst factors (catalyst composition, catalyst form, space velocity, etc.), temperature of exhaust gas, and velocity distribution of exhaust gas. Especially the flow uniformity of gas stream flowing into the catalyst layer is believed to be the most important factor to influence the performance. In this research, the flow characteristics of a SCR process at design stage was simulated, using 3-dimensional numerical analysis method, to confirm the uniformity of the gas stream. In addition, the effects of guide vanes, baffles, and perforated plates on the flow uniformity for the inside and catalyst layer of the reactor were studied in order to optimize the flow uniformity inside the SCR reactor. It was found that the installation of a guide vane at the inlet duct L-tube part and the installation of a baffle at the upper part is very effective in avoiding chaneling inside the reactor. It was also found that additional installation of a perforated plate at the lower part of the potential catalyst layer buffers once more the flow for very uniform distribution of the gas stream.

The distribution of Coreoperca kawamebari was known to be restricted to the Tamjin River and several small streams flowing into the southern part of the West Sea, while C. herzi was widely distributed throughout South Korea except the areas inhabited by C. kawamebari: the two species were known to be allopatric. However, we found that both species were sympatric in the Boseong River, a tributary of the Seomjin River, and the Jiseok Stream, a tributary of the Yeongsan River. Local-scale distribution of the two Coreoperca species, fish assemblages, and environmental variables were surveyed to investigate effects of environmental factors on fish community structures in the Boseong River. Rank abundance distribution of fish community at the study sites indicated that fish species diversity and distribution pattern of the two Coreoperca species were closely related to habitat diversity. The result of canonical correspondence analysis showed that C. kawamebari was distributed in pool areas while C. herzi was found in the areas with higher water velocity and boulder substrate. These results suggested that species diversity of fish community decreased and only one of the two Coreoperca species inhabited at the sites with less diverse habitat, but on the other hand, high habitat diversity increased species diversity and allowed the two species to coexist.
In the 21st century, a number of storm and flood disasters caused by rapidly changing climate change is increasing, and the number of flood accidents at construction sites is also increasing. However, no specific reduction measures have been presented and thereby safety management to prevent flood accident need to be improved. Therefore, in this study, the inundation pattern by downpour at the excavation site was interpreted and the inundation risk quantification method was used to classify the risk magnitude. Finally, using the fish-bone diagram, we derived the major reasons of inundation accident at construction site systematically. The simulation results showed that the inundation depths of small-scale excavation sites and excavation sites exceeded 3 m due to the fluid flowing through the excavation surface. In addition, depending on the excavation site, a high velocity temporarily observed and decreased due to the storage effect, or high velocity surpassing 10 m/s continued. Since this type of flooding can pose a risk to most or all workers, if proper management measures are insufficient, fatal damage to life and property could occur. Consideration of the roots of these disasters is judged to be helpful in understanding the causes of inundation accidents that result in casualties and presenting accident reduction measures.
To understand the relationship between water velocity in a fishway and fish morphology, the fineness ratio of fish, expressed as the standard length to the body depth, was measured. The fineness ratios of fish groups belonging to Cyprinidae, Acheilognathinae, Centropomidae, and Centrachidae were relatively low. The FRs of other groups, excluding eel-shaped types of fish, were over 4.5, indicating streamlined structures. The fineness ratios of Korean fish were classified into three different types: type I was Bitterling-Carp group that favored a slow-flowing pool habitat(FRs ranged from 2.1 to 3.3), type II was the Chub group representing streamlined types (FRs FRs ranged from 3.7 to 5.2), and type III was the Smelt-Barbel fish group that preferred riffle-run habitats with high velocity (FRs is over 5.2). Fish abundance analysis of fish using the fishway during the experimental periods showed a relatively high abundance of both type II and III compared to type I. The FRs of the fish passing through fishway(velocity 0.5-1.0 m s-1) ranged from 4.5 to 5.0, indicating that the fish using the fishway were mainly the streamlined type. As one of the standard fishways in Korea, the flow rate of the ice harbor type ranged from 0.2 to 2.6 m s-1. The FR values of the fish groups using the fishway ranged from 4.3 to 5.0. In contrast, the flow rate measured in an artificial channel type of fishway (same as a natural type of fishway) ranged from 0.1 to 1.9 m s-1 and the FR values for the fish groups using a natural type of fishway ranged from 3.3 to 5.3. The low FR values in natural fish are considered to be due to differences in the flow rates between the two types of fishways.

Heat wave generation in cities is basically affected by global warming, but it is further exacerbated by the impact of artificial heat emission and heat accumulation in the city. In particular, the effects of urban heat waves directly affect the occurrence of tropical nights. Basically, however, the choice of countermeasures against tropical nights is very limited compared to the daytime heat wave response. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of cold air flow at night as a countermeasure against tropical nights in Daegu Metropolitan City and to suggest its spatial applicability. As a research method, the spatial characteristics (flow velocity, flow rate, flow direction and range) of cold air flow in Daegu were quantitatively analyzed using KLAM_21, a cold air flow analysis program. As a result of the analysis, it was found that cold air generation and flow in the surrounding mountains of Daegu Metropolitan City was very active, but the inflow was limited to the urban area, which has tropical nights. However, it has been shown that the flow of cold air flowing from the surrounding mountains is very active in some urban areas, so it has spatial conditions that are very effective in countering tropical nights. If these spatial conditions are used for the urban planning, it will be very useful to develop countermeasures for tropical nights.

Tractive forces by flowing water and ship generated waves are items that affect the stability of the low flow revetments among various external forces exerting on those revetments. Bank revetment stability by these external forces is analysed in this study. The study area is the section of the test construction area changing the artificial revetments to ecological revetments in Han river. Tractive forces are computed using the calculated flow velocity using RMA-2 model. The stability is analyzed comparing the calculated tractive forces with permissible tractive forces of the revetments in the study area. The calculated tractive forces at section number 93 is higher than permissible tractive forces in that section, so the section is estimated hydraulically unstable. The calculated tractive forces for the storm of 10th August 2007 are small compared to the permissible tractive forces in all sections. The sections are considered to be hydraulically stable, but have been eroded in some parts. The reason for the erosion is considered to have insufficient time for the plants taking root, and be exerted composite forces such as forces by ship generated waves. Ship generated waves by the excursion boats and small boats called river taxi was calculated. Wave forces by these calculated waves are computed and compared with the supporting forces of the revetment material. The external forces exerted by the ships in Han River on the revetments is very little compared with the permissible supporting forces of the revetments, so the revetments are estimated hydraulically stable. But considering the composite forces are exerted simultaneously, the stability consideration should include these composite forces.

Abandoned mines often cause environmental problems, such as alteration of landscape, metal contamination, and landslides due to a heavy rainfall. Geotechnical and rheological tests were performed on waste materials corrected from Imgi waste rock dump, located in Busan Metropolitan City. Debris flow mobility was examined with the help of 1-D BING model which was often simulated in both subaerial and subaqueous environments. To determine flow curve, we used a vane-penetrated rheometer. The shear stress (${\tau}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) and viscosity(${\eta}$)-shear rate (${\dot{\gamma}}$) relationships were plotted using a shear stress control mode. Well-known rheological models, such as Bingham, bilinear, Herschel-Bulkley, Power-law, and Papanastasiou concepts, were compared to the rheological data. From the test results, we found that the tested waste materials exhibited a typical shear shinning behavior in ${\tau}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ and and ${\eta}$-${\dot{\gamma}}$ plots, but the Bingham behavior is often observed when the water contents increased. The test results show that experimental data are in good agreement with rheological models in the post-failure stage during shearing. Based on the rheological properties (i.e., Bingham yield stress and viscosity as a function of the volumetric concentration of sediment) of waste materials, initial flowing shape (5 m, 10 m, and 15 m) and yield stress (100 Pa, 200 Pa, 300 Pa, and 500 Pa) were input to simulate the debris flow motion. As a result, the runout distance and front velocity of debris flow are in inverse propositional to yield stress. In particular, when the yield stress is less than 500 Pa, most of failed masses can flow into the stream, resulting in a water contamination.

In this paper, we studied vehicle to vehicle (VTV) communication system using DSRC of 5.8 GHz bands. Nowadays, in the road traffic system is going intelligent and advancing, communication between driving vehicle is very important technology for ITS. We can contrive smoothness and safety traffic flowing by exchanging information about velocity, location, braking and driving condition of nearby vehicles. Therefore, we developed and verified the system which required for the communication among vehicles using DSRC technology of 5.8 GHz band hasa 1 Mbps data rate in the high mobility condition. For this, we developed DSRC modem, data link layer and logic link layer to make it possible that communication between vehicles of perfectly operation, and developed application service program for VTV communication. We performed to communication test in the general road and ascent road. In case of the general mad, obtained VTV communication results are more than number of 17 with in 300 m LOS coverage, and total communication time are $2.34{\sim]18.7$ msec that considered maximum 8-transaction. We blow that obtained results can be used VTV communication or the in areas form the feasibility road test as a function or various conditions. In the future, this system is very useful of advanced safety vehicle (ASV) and super smart vehicle system (SSVS) and so on.
